Calling all Tanks

Just a reminder that this is a trinity game.

The dungeon mechanics are such that you will need tank/healer/dps parties.

We are gonna be fine on healers (we will heal the known universe at this rate!)

So if you like to tank you will certainly be in demand for instance groups....

I figured I would remind everyone in case we have some tanky all stars in our midst ready to take on the challenge!

15-17 I think. (somewhere in that range.lol)

I probably am a bit late but put in an ap to beta test after seeing Connor's update about it  As for playing need to see how the income is gong to work out because a stipend I was guaranteed with my disability insurance ends this month and they are arguing with my doctor on what they think I can do.  So not sure if a sub game is in the works as early as this one goes live.

However, if it is, I'll make another version of Briseadh, who has always been a fighter type, and see what I think of tanking in the game.  Depends on if my hands can do it with the game mechanics.  I know Rift is the only game where I had issues with their fighter type and really didn't like playing it.

I will be tanking for sure

As I hinted at in the other post, I will be primarily focusing on PLD/GLD tanking for our shell/FC events.

The more tanks the better though, as I'll be leveling all the other classes/jobs (as other altaholics will be doing), and I (and others) will surely need a tank to help in running leves, dungeons, FATEs, Guildhests, etc.! :)

What are the tank classes?

Paladin is the main tanking class. However, Gibsauce tanked an instance last beta, and said that Marauder made a great offtank. One of the Summoner pets is supposed to be able to tank, but that will probably be just for soloing rather than being able to tank bosses. (That is a guess, btw, I have no idea other than what I read). So I guess if you want to be safe, you would go Gladiator up to 30, and then switch to Paladin. Pally requires you to also have Conjurer levelled up to 15. You then obtain your Paladin soul quest from the Gladiator guild in Ul'dah and complete it. Hey presto, one pally tank.

Gladiator/Paladin seems better suited for single-target, passive and reactive, high damage-mitigation (& even full on damage nullification) based tanking (read: great for bosses).

Marauder/Warrior seems to excel at picking up multiple targets, and surviving through passive and reactive hp increases, coupled with life leeching skills (read: great for adds).

Marauder/Warriors are also no slouches in the dps department.

I've completed the first 3 dungeons, and having a Gladiator work in tandem with a Marauder made most every pull a breeze.

Anyone thinking of playing a tank, other than Gib, Ironbars and Bri?

Possibly.  I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the "single character, all classes" thing is going to work.  The closest thing I have to compare it to is The Secret World, so that's what I draw on when I try to understand the FFXIV system.  I'm also uncertain about the scope of customization of what I can build by combining classes, skills, etc.

I generally go for the "paladin/monk" style of support characters, versus a straight up "holy trinity" build.  So we'll see what I can come up with.

My primary job will always be some sort of ranged dps, but I will either be alting or "multi-classing" a tank.

I might go marauder/Warrior as my first job, aka off-tank/trash tank.  My choice will depend on how the combat feel & Full Group utility compare to Summoner.

Eventually I hope to level several jobs so I can switch into what's needed based on the group.

Tank here ( looking at a Monk, Glad style try out a dodge tank but will be focusing on these things but at first thinking i will be working on MUR. ) 

I have already pre-order i just need to be made aware of Phase 4 ( since i think if i heared right that there is not wipe after phase 4 ) so i can start leveling and doing the Class Quests )

Yay we have some good tankage going on.  If anyone needs help or advice, Gibsauce is gathering tanking info and has been experimenting with instance and open world boss tanking so far. I am doing the same for the healing classes.
