I was wondering how many others in the guild were having to deal with this. With any luck I won't have it so bad where I'm at, western Mass. I am hoping though that if the power goes out or worse, those of us affected by it will be given extra exp time on Rift, I mean I think it's just the right thing to do! /petition :D
Im on Long Island, just outside NYC. The hatches have been battened down and Im ready to ride it out
We're battening down the hatches today. It should hit us tomorrow around noonish. The coast in Mass will get the storm surge, but the eye of it is going right over our heads inland, which is unusual. All they are expecting is a LOT of rain and 50-70mph winds, though. We're hoping no trees come down, since we live a bit in the boonies, and land on our house. Cinder
Stay safe Soddi .. isn't there a mandatory evacuation for that area, or are you outside of that? Cinder - Where are you at? I'm in Orange and live on a flood plain of the Millers River. I have no clue what all that rain is going to do. Our back yard floods during a normal heavy rain.. seriously we have ducks come and swim in our little lake every spring! lol I am heading out in a minute to get any last min stuffs and make sure all the outdoor stuff is indoors.
Soddi, where you from?IM from a town like 2 mins away from Queens, how bout you?
Wow Bella I'm not far from you. It's gonna be hairy for you if you live by the river. We're supposed to get up to 10 inches of rain. Miller;s River floods during a bad rainstorm. shudders. You may seriously want to get to higher ground if you can. I suspect a number of areas of orange are going to be totally underwater. And if any of the dams go upriver...erg...
Ya .. so long as the dams hold .. I'll be okay. I don't know about the Millers river and it's flooding history, but I DO know Lake Bella forms in the back yard during a normal heavy rain.. we really do have ducks come swim!
I think it depends on how long it sits over us? But yeah.. a bit worried about the flooding .. it's been raining for hours now, but can't see the back .. it's all dark.
I'll post a pick of where I live.. it's kind of odd how they built the houses with that jutting out from the river .. BUT the warehouse on the river is there no problem. We also have a problem with the street that comes down hill from us, when it rains heavily its like a river .. heading straight for ......... yeah .. I guess we're going to see ..

Still raining like crazy here in the Catskills. Had a few trees down, our stream behind the house is like three feet higher. We lost power for about 12 hours due to some downed trees. Our county has been issued a state of emergency and until this rain stops the flooding is only going to get worse before it gets better. For the record, I'm a three hour drive northwest of NYC in the middle of these "mountains". Hopefully the rain and wind we could have through midnight or so doesn't make things much worse around here.
Wall Township, Monmouth county, NJ here. I'm about a mile inland from the ocean. Fortunately I came out unscathed, aside from the 2 foot twig in my front yard which is gona take FOREVER to clear out ;) Lost power for about an hour around 11pm last night (right around the time I was gona log in to play too!) Others in my area haven't been so lucky. heading towards the ocean many areas are completely flooded out. Sections of the boardwalk in neighboring Spring Lake are torn up pretty bad from pictures I've seen. Rivers are still rising in the area as well. In fact I just read a report that they're beginning emergency evacuations of a small community south of me due to a small tributary spilling over its banks. One heck of a water rift we had to deal with!
Hope all got thru the rain and wind ok. Here in Maine just a little blow and we are use to it here. Our house is located on the penoboscot river and we see plenty of ducks, eagles and chipmucks .. they all took cover. Sometimes I think they are smarter than most humans.
My county in the Catskills got hit hard due to the wind and rain we got as part of the revolving back lash of Irene. We had flush flooding in one town that required air evacuations for people told to get to the upper floors of their houses as soon as possible. Two people unfortunately drowned. The grocery and drug store in the town where we go to church have been flushed with water. Our church has damage with lots of mud and the Community Assistance Program lost a lot of food in the warehouse. Every bottom box is ruined. Hopefully this can be sorted out soon because CAP supports around 600 low income families with food right now in our county. The water crested in the town nearly two feet higher than the big flood of 1996 everyone talks of around here. So far no family, including church family, that I know of have been hurt, but some of them had damage to property due to this excess of water and wind. Being on the westward side of a hurricane is not fun. The way it loops around, miles from the eye can be flooded. I'm probably over a 100 miles northwest of where the eye went over NYC and we got a state of emergency going on in some of the towns around here. Just shows you never know what will really happen when it comes to storms like this.
i am in greene new york and thanks to all this rain we are flooded in lots of areas and roads are washed out but most of the damages is in non residential areas so we all good just wish the water would go aways faster lol
3 houses down from mine, an entire tree toppled over onto someones house. Luckily the power lines stopped it from doing to much damage. Same thing down the block about 20 houses, tree fell through someones roof...
Sounds like you all got it a heck of a lot worse than we did here. Especially those living nearer the coasts. Despite the hype in this area (Western Mass), we had no more flooding than a regular rain would bring, sure the lake formed out back, but just another rainy day in a lot of ways. Though that being said, there is STILL water in part of the yard, like a mini swamp - and that's never happened before. Kavor, yeah that same thing happened here, thought it was all done and then wow slammed with more wind.. around us there were trees downed etc, but at my house specifically, it was just something cool to watch and hear really. But, unlike a lot of you, we lost no power, our roads didn't wash out as they have before.. not a big deal at all. I'm sorry I can't say that for everyone. Hugs to you all and I hope and pray all returns to normal soon for you guys that got hit bad.
Here is a link to a friend's youtube video of Margretville NY, only 10 miles over a couple mountains away. It is showing downtown entrance to town. Buildings in the background beyond the bear statue (which is still defiantly standing) have been emptied and undermind. You still can't drive into parts of this town and the state highway up from Kingston is washed out in places too. Irene Floods Catskill Town
