This has been a long time coming. This was the plan a long time ago before they came up with world pairings. Seems they just evaluated it further. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Says it will be several months in the making, so not sure when it will roll out. At least a couple things I've noticed is that we'll have to pick a guild for WvW we will use and you will stay to that guild forever unless you say to change it. You will auto move to the world that guild is assigned to when each 8 week session starts. Alliances also stay intact until guilds change them up. The good idea is that they lock changing all of this in the last week of the battle before the rematching. 

Leaves me with a few questions mostly based on our size and our huge mix of those that play WvW quite often and those that don't bother since we are a guild that does everything in this game. :) At least they will be basing things for each player on their history in WvW by time so they will see where we fit overall. I'm hoping the alliance system works out that we definitely get with HoL or that is going to mess up some of the fun.

ANET staff responded to some questions on the restructuring plan:

 

Q: So will there be a max to the amount of players in a specific world /Guild for seasons?

A: kind of.... There will be a max number of players in and Alliance but worlds will be balanced based on player score so the number of players is not fixed really but related to that score.

 

Q: Will there be new Borderlands?

A: Not at this time.

 

Q: Will there be a limit as to how many guilds are allowed in each alliance?

A: Yes. That number of guilds is still being determined but there will cap. It will also depend on the guilds size. For example an alliance might be able to have 5 small guilds before it is full, while another alliance might only be able to have 2 big guilds before it is full.

 

Q: If a player isn't in a 'wvw guild' and the guild they're in isn't going to set itself as wvw, do we need to join another guild for it? 

A: If you want to be sorted into the season with a "guild" then you will need join another guild that has set itself as a wvw guild. Otherwise you will be sorted onto a world individually.

 

Q: Can all current player worlds be opened until the new system since none of what we're doing now is going to matter later? It would allow people to see who best fits with their upcoming alliance.

A: The current plan is to continue with what we have for now; continue with world linking and having locked worlds until World Restructuring is live.

 

Q: Also will the matchup system stay at 1up1down with these new changes, or will we get a new system?

A: The new system will use 1up1down.

 

Q: Who will be in charge of Alliances (a single player? will there be an Alliance UI panel like the Guild panel?) and how will kicking guilds out of an Alliance be handled?

A: The current design is that there will be a new tab in the guild panel where guilds can create and manage Alliances. The guild that created the Alliance can kick guilds from the alliance. We have also discussed that no one can kick guilds from an Alliance. Instead anyone can  leave an Alliance and form a new one.

 

Q: Is the setting to be a WvW guild independant from the Guild Mission settings? I want to play WvW with my guild mates but still being able to do PvE missions with my other guild mates that don't play WvW.

A: It is independent. It will be a new setting launching with the system.

 

Q: So if a guild has a large population but only a portion of that guild actually plays WvW, would they have to make a new guild in order to keep the population accurate?

A: No. Only players who set that guild as their WvW guild will count towards that guilds WvW population.

 

Q: Do WvW alliances have a hardcap of guilds aswell? I.e. could I create an alliance with 500 1-man wvw guilds?

A: No. There will be some cap to the number of guilds in an alliance.

 

Q: Will we be able to have an 'alliance' chat the way we had in gw1?

A: This is something we've thought about and are defiantly going to investigate.

 

Q: Will there be a cap on how many alliances in a world?

A: Alliances can be different sizes so there isn't plans to have a caps on alliances currently. Instead the world size cap will control how many alliances can be on a world.

 

Q: What if you are in multiple wvw based guilds, say if you're playing in more than one timezone, would you have to rely on alliances to play in both/all of them?

A: Yes, you would need to be in an alliance with all of those guilds to guarantee all those guilds being on the same world.

 

Q: Will the character limit of maps change?

A: There are no plans to change character limits on WvW maps.

 

Q: What if a guild is 100+ people but has an active wvw of 25? Are they counted as 100?

A: Only people who mark the guild as their wvw guild will count. Guilds that specialize can still band together in an alliance if they so choose. We started this dialogue early so we could hear feedback and work to improve the design where possible.

 

Q:  How will this work if for example, you have 4 guilds, where everyone is a member of all 4 guilds. These guilds have all been upgraded to allow for various types of claiming in WvW, so for example, 1 can hold 2 camps, 1 tower and 1 keep at the same time. Right now you can do this by swapping guilds. This brings up a couple questions.

     Will this sort of activity be possible under the new proposed system?

A: Claiming and slotting tactics/upgrades is all still handled on the guild level and will still be possible.

 

Q:  If these 4 guilds, lets say a total of 200 unique players among them, are all a part of the same alliance, for the sake of alliance size, will the population of each guild be the only thing looked at, or the unique players in each guild, so if an alliance allows for say 500 players  and  I'm a member of all 4 guilds in the alliance, do I count as 1 player or 4 players, furthermore given that the membership is shared across the guilds, would they even really count as 4 guilds in the alliance?

A: You will count as 1 player. This is handled by being able to only select 1 of those guilds as your WvW guild.

Q: Implementation question: how will this work with Discords and stuff? Will anet update the api for this new system? How is that all going to work?

A: We plan to update the api.

 

Q: ...anet absolutely need to set the alliance population caps low, or find a way to actively discourage stacking an alliance. otherwise, they might as well keep the current system and not bother.

A: We started with 500 since 500 is the max size of a guild, but those numbers could change in the future. We are aware that servers will try and form alliances filled with really skilled players, and that there needs to be a limit so that they can't create a "Blackgate 2.0" which is  why there is going to be a cap. This is one of the numbers we will be constantly testing and tweaking to make sure the system meets our goals of balanced team.

Hmm If I am reading this correctly.. It would mean that Sanctum of Rall won't be there anymore Since they are creating " New Worlds Every 8 weeks " and the worlds you see now when you log in will not be there anymore under this new system they are building. That is what it sounds like to me anyway and judging from the Comments in the thread that is what they are doing. But this system is going to throw everything into Chaos.Since With this system not only do people lose their Servers they have called home. Other communities are going to lose their servers as well. Since they are going to be completely Replaced by 8 new worlds.

In their Current plans..Sanctum of Rall is going to be replaced by a new world. I am using this as an example because this is what it sounds like to me. But on top of this, you are not 100 percent Guaranteed that you will be playing with your guildmates  "    Ideally the system will assign a new player to a world on which their friends or guildmates play, ". Which means new players joining guilds.. Are playing a lottery when it comes if they will be playing WVW with there guild or not.

And think about it.. This world thing they are working up.. Effects non Wvw players as well from what I am understanding... now I could be mistaken.But these 8 worlds are also going to be the worlds one chooses. Since this is what they say about that " This is why, in the new World Restructuring system, we will remove all players from their current worlds, and make new worlds every eight weeks. This will create more granular pieces, which allow us to avoid situations like the Crystal Desert example. "

 

So now I have a question-  What happens once Sanctum of Rall disappears with this new system of theirs... A server you guys have fought on since 2012 which is your homeworld ?. Unless I am mistaken. But it seems that under this new System.. Sanctum of Rall will cease to exist entirely. But not only that but other servers as well in favor of ones that form every 8 weeks. To me this sounds bad. World linking made it you had some pride when you fought for your server that was paired up. But This will now only ruin Any pride you had for the servers you were fought for.. But also destroy homeworlds people have called home since 2012.. I can't imagine people would be happy about losing their beloved server.

While its sad to see Sanctum of Rall go, nothing says we cant form a Sanctum of Rall Alliance with the few guilds who remain. HoL, GSCH, the new EVIL will likely form an alliance. When this system gets close ill reach out to all of them to see who wants to be involved.

We still have the historian and that i think was a great choice by the dev team as in the event SOR ever closed something would remain.

This is a neccessary change and its important we dont get hung up on the fact our server is fading away and focus on the fact that ALL servers are fading away for a system that ensures battles will always be fought. This system will likely help the game and while servers will be no more (a process which began a long time ago, first megaserver, then world pairing) that doesnt stop the fact we are honoring a friend by our presence.

 

Alliance Notes:

  • Limited to 500 - 1000 players who have marked the Guilds in the Alliances as their WvW Guild.
  • Players only count to that total based on the guild they select as their WvW Guild.
  • All 5 Gaiscioch Rooms will be WvW Guilds and be part of our Tuatha de Rall Alliance. Gaiscioch, Gaiscioch na Morrigan, Gaiscioch na Anu, Gaiscioch na Rall, Sanctum of Rall Community Events. Being most players exist across 2-3 of these Total WvW population might be close to 300 for all 5 leaving us 200-700 slots for other guilds. Not all GSCH play WvW and not all that do play WvW will set GSCH as their WvW Guild.

In answer to one of Lord Melchom's questions, the following is from Gaile Gray's original post:

When World Restructuring happens at the start of a season, as long as you have specified your WvW guild, you will be assigned to the same world as everyone else in your WvW guild, guaranteeing you will be able to play with your guild mates. (Emphasis added)

 

In response to Fog's statement that all 5 Gaiscioch Rooms will be WvW guilds, again from Gaile Gray's post:

the individual player will be able to set ONE of their guilds as their personal WvW guild.

So even though GSCH  members exist in 2-3 GSCH rooms, these members can have only one GSCH room as their WvW guild.

Yes, however people in Gaiscioch na Rall rotate. By setting your home WvW Guild to Gaiscioch na Anu, Gaiscioch, or Gaiscicoh na Morrigan we can have up to 1500 people declare allegiance with our community rather than the 490 that have logged in in the past 14-30 days that live in Rall. The 3 Lobbies rotate on a 2 Year AFK timer rather than a 14-30 day. That's why we'll be making all 5 guilds part of the alliance. That way nobody loses their allegiance if they go afk.

Keep in Mind:

  1. Gaiscioch na Rall = 490 most recently logged in accounts.
  2. Gaiscioch na Rall has about 40% of it's population that plays WvW actively meaning about 294 WvW Players.

To clarify the no servers to megaserver thing since in voice chat and elsewhere people are concerned and it is clarified some above, but will sum it up again.

PvE has been megaserver for a few years now so you can play with anyone from any server any time. Only restriction is NA can't play with EU and vice versa. Fully tested with one of our newer members that has an account on both and he could not join my event with his EU account.

The ONLY thing that changes is that when someone makes a new account they chose NA or EU. Existing accounts won't even notice the change if the player doesn't go into WvW other than it will say NA or EU where it used to say server on the character select screen. PvE will feel the same as it has for some time.

WvW change will be a world name instead of a server name put into the pairing at the start of each 8 weeks. Time will tell what level of stats they will use for the pairing of everything, but I see this as a good thing if they can make it work well at all three levels of individual, guild and alliance.

And Oldroar lives on in Black Citadel where Historian Goshkia will talk of him to the end of time for GW2. His memorial is also part of our guild hall. And my own personal opinion is that he knew what he was talking of about this game and we keep his legacy going over 6 years now with GW2 if you include the testing we got to do as a guild.
