My GW2 Itch is Back....

After a little more than a year, my GW2 itch is back. Please help me set priorities considering the objectives & limitations:
(1) My only viable play option is WvW Zerglling. I will do PvE in order to aquire needed gear & skills.
(2) I plan to use my level 80 Elementalist as backline staff. I have exotic armor & weapons with ascended jewelry, in a mix of berserker, soldier, and cleric.  I followed the Metabattle.com recommendations of a year ago.
(3) I have not purchased Heart of Thorms or anything since then. I would be willing to purchase whatever is necessary & can be bought with real-life cash.
(4) Due to real-life constraints, I will have about 6-10 hours per week to play.
Should I:
A. just use the gear I have and do my best as a zergling.
B. if updates are necessary, what are my first 5 priorities?

I'm not sure exactly how much you cannot do if you don't have HoT, but WvW offers now things that are called "reward tracks" that allows you to unlock equipment from PvE without having to leave WvW.

I would also suggest review in Metabattle for an updated build, since around a year ago ele got a few changes, even how the crits work.

Also they reworked how the traits are unlocked, you don't have to do any pve to unlock any powers or pay anything to reset. DO MIND that PvE, PvP and WvW have different builds and skill sets! So always do the changes in the right map!!!

Last but not least, welcome back :3

I play a tempest healer in WvW with a mix of armor (runes of Durability) and ascended celestial trinkets which I had acquired from drops.

Sample build: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Tempest_-_Midline_Auramancer

You will need to purchase the Heart of Thorns expansion to gain access to the Tempest specialty and the ability to use a warhorn.

Otherwise, a regular staff elementalist is a very good choice:

If you plan on doing some WvW outside of GSCH events, this forum thread I made earlier may be of some help in deciding which Fort Aspenwood commanders to follow:

In WvW, Sanctum of Rall is currently linked with the Fort Aspenwood server

From the returning after TWO years player, I run in the WvW events with my staff elementalist and I'm like half exotic and half ascended gear. I really have fun out there regardless and part of it is your playstyle. I have a hard time with the game sometimes if my hands, impacted by Multiple Sclerosis, cramp up during the play, but I get some good laughs out of my mishaps, lucky survivals, and what not. I try to do my best and usually run with Fog's Tuesday event and Smitty's Wednesday event which fit in my schedule. I'm still trying to get my bearings on the desert map they added back in, but actually think it is a cool change from the alpine ones and I'm glad it is back in for now so I can have a chance to check it out. I've got a couple things changed to try out tomorrow night and see how that helps.

There is a difference in WvW vs PvE gear, but I'm that noncomformist that has one set and make it work. LOL! I don't play enough to get things created for the rest of my ascended, but slowly working on it since I came back and realized I had at least a tailor of max crafting.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D
