Two toons or multi-class?

I'm having an internal debate on this one: should I make two toons or just multi-class?

My situation is that I play a lot more often than my wife does, but when she does play, I like to be synced up with her in levels and quests (main story quest aside). Should I just swap to a different class when I play with her or make an entirely separate toon? What downside/upside do you all see with each way? Are there any major downsides to having two toons versus one toon with multiple classes?

I'm mostly concerned that leveling my second class will be way too slow compared to her toon, since you can't repeat quests and the daily levequest ration is so small. My wife was gaining two levels for every one level I was gaining - she was running the Shroud quests while I was only gaining xp from monster kills and a smattering of leves. Are there some tricks to leveling up classes after you've exhausted all the one-time quests?

I can't answer your questions about experience gain, I expect someone else will though. However, I usually play most mmo's with my son who has less time than me whilst he is in college, and I have found the best way is to have a separate character that I don't level, just save for playing when he does. In this game I don't know why I would need more than one toon because my son isn't playing it, but if he was I would have one just for when I play with him.

Pick a different start area for your second class, all the quests except storyline will be there. So you can play there with her.

Aalwein - Things slow down a LOT when you run out of rest XP and leve allowances.  With two toons, you can keep one perfectly in sync with your wife's.  I think it's the right call for you, based on your post.

I'm leaning toward two toons as it is; I'd really rather only have to maintain one character, of course, but we'll see.

Although I see a lot of unhappy chatter in the forums about how slow leveling is for multi-class. Given how it is such an important feature to the game (multi-class), I imagine Squeenix may alleviate the issue sooner rather than later. I like the idea of having all the non-story quests on a 3-5 day cooldown timer, like The Secret World does. Or just plain having no limit on Levequests would help. Or having completion linked to the class rather than the character (so every class you light up can do every non-story quest).

I hope YoshiP knows that he is sending his MMOG into the western world where we don't tolerate "the grind" leveling style that is so popular in Asian MMOGs. We want quests as a distraction to the fact that we are actually just killing billions of enemies over and over, lol.

In phase 4 they are going to boost your other job's XP rates based on your highest job level, per beta forums(?).

I'd say one toon for each starting zone. this way you can experience the full range of the game's story. but if you don't have a lot of time to play. just stick with one multi-class toon.
