Need Volunteers for Anthropology Thesis Research

Hello Gaiscíoch Family!
This is Michael Perez (Balry) a graduate student from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) doing an M.A. thesis on online gaming communities. I am happy to say that my research study entitled "MMO Gaming Culture: An Online Gaming Family" has been FULLY APPROVED by BOTH the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and my thesis committee.
This means that now comes the part where I become more active within the community to search for volunteers for the research study.

We are looking for adult (at least 18 years of age) Gaiscíoch member volunteers to participate in an anthropological research study (Florida Atlantic University) that aims to determine the elements that make the Gaiscíoch family a successful community and to expand the understanding of the border between the virtual and physical space.

You can participate in one of two ways:
Schedule a voice-chat interview with me, OR a written online-survey.
For participating in the interviews please contact me in-game (Balry...

M.A. Thesis Approved! Yay

After a long (VERY LONG) wait for approval my research study entitled "MMO Gaming Culture: An Online Gaming Family" has finally been approved by both the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and my thesis committee. They are both very excited to see my results.
That means that now comes the part where I become more active within the community the in search for volunteers for the research study.

Don't worry I will not be forcing or nagging anyone! I am, after all, looking for volunteers :)

I will have more details regarding how to participate on forum and blog posts in the upcoming days!

Overview of a Korean MMORPG: Black Desert

I recently came across a couple of articles [1] [2] regarding a new Korean MMORPG entitled Black Desert. This game is being developed by Pearl Abyss. Normally, I would never mention a Korean MMORPG as they tend to feel clunky and include a lot of grind. But this game is a bit different.
You must look at this beauty!

Anthropology Research - FAU Thesis (Michael Perez)

This is a brief paragraph of my research topic.
Feel free to critique and even heavily bash with intellectual jargon.

Main source of theoretical standing is Tom Boellstorff's Rethinking Digital Anthropology. (Chapter 2 from book entitled Digital Anthropology)

"I will take a close look at the belief system, social, “family,” and political structure of a large and active video game community that primarily functions within massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs). Most online gaming communities that are influential, well-known, and competitive expect, if not require, players to regularly schedule gaming time in order to join and maintain membership. The goal of my ethnography is to create a comprehensive, yet detailed, ethnographic account of a rare type of gaming community that is open to any player without the requirement of a time or skill commitment, but still maintains a great amount of influence and prowess within and outside the game...
