Chokepoint, do what you want. Its your game too. If you want to log, and have planned to log, and have advertised in alliance that you are leading, then log because you have taken on the responsibility to do so at that point. If you are in a spot in t4, and want to get something done and lead some pugs with no intention of logging, that's fine too. If you have no intention of logging, start something up, and within a short time you find you are doing well and are on a roll, and have family wanting to join up and then decide to log from then on out, and build up your forces from advertising in Alliance, and t4, etc, that's fine too.
It's fluid, and I feel you are not beholden to log unless it is your goal to lead the family. Because of the fluid nature of the battlefield, when you are in doubt, and are leading, it is at that point you just make the call. Whether yay or nay, and let any family members who are following you know what your intentions are. As a family member, I do not automatically expect a leader will be logging if he's in the lake leading a bunch of pugs and a few family, unless he proclaims he will, and it is defined at one point to be a pick-up event raid eligible for fellowship, either at the very start, or if it morphs into such a little later on.
This is my understanding, and what I personally feel is the best way to go about doing the right thing by your family, and still play the game the way you want and enjoy. Logging is an important thing to do for your family when you ask for their help, and you will most likely get more people willing to help out in your endeavors if they know from the get-go they will be able to claim fellowship :) But there are also plenty of family members who would join regardless of if they could claim. Its just a matter of making your intentions known, so there is no expectation.
Any comments, suggestions or advice on this topic from Ben, or any of the Draoi council and high ranked warlords would be helpful as well. I feel a general consensus amongst our leadership is required on this issue.
Perhaps this will help as well (taken from the "how to use the leadership console" page):
Reasons To Use:
* Your "Leading" A Organized Raid With 3 or More Family Members.
* You've organized a family event and need to track its progress
* The Objective was successful.
Do Not Use For:
* Participating in someone else's raid
* Walking into the tail half of someone else's raid
* You're leading less than 3 family members. As a general rule only add targets when you advertise that you are leading a war effort to the family and more than 3 family members participate.
* The Objective was a failure.
See ya on the battlefield! :D
