Are Open WBs bad?

This isn't qq it talking about what is most important in groups. Group makeup is important. I realizing that it's almost impossible to get the right class makeups in a WB. Alot of time things don't happen in T3 because the group makeup is so poor. Like putting grace specced WP in a melee group is better than having them in a group with all range. Making sure you have enough range to take down oil. Twice I have seen keep sieges fail because there was not enough range to take out the oil. I imagine this is the case with T4. In any siege time is important as so as Destro hears a keep is under attack it is only a matter of time before there are to many. Like today because the oil didn't go down due to lack of range dps they pushed us right out of the keep and then their numbers grew to the point where we couldn't do anything.

Personally guild WBs are the way to go if you can field the people to put one together. I imagine the top order guild run it that way. I'm just seeing to much randomness in Warhammer with the open WB. In a game where tactics and precision count you want to get rid of that as much as possible. The trinity nights work because you have enough WBs to cover the weakness of the others but on the other time, it's almost impossible to get a good group makeup in Open WBs. I find it more fun to run guild /alliance Wbs then anything. I like the feeling of running with a well oiled machine. =o)

I wouldn’t say they are bad, per say. They just give you more challenges to adjust to than you would in a selective, closed wb. Sometimes you can be purely outnumbered and there just isn’t anything you can do about it. You obviously cannot realistically fling 15 healers at a lord or king (I actually did that this week haha) – it’s entertaining to try for laughs but .. no, it doesn’t work LOL Even in T4 you will see order (or destro) on many occasions doing nothing! Suddenly a single post flashes in region or rwc tier chat and BAM the wb is filled within mins and needing an overflow. They are simply waiting for anyone but themselves to lead. The challenges ensue when people won’t listen or don’t agree with their wb instructions. Wipe a few times and you lose 1-2 groups or the wb just implodes. I will be honest – when I needed to break off last night to start the 4th wb, I popped a lemon Maalox and clicked leave party LOL. It was my first time running a T4 wb on a Trinity night and I have seen how rough it can go within a pug wb .. I mean T4 is srs bzns!1?!zOMGwtwBBQ!!@$. I remember one night in T4 that was so bad those of us in vent decided to leave the wbs we had formed and regroup - we literally left the belligerent, non-listening, know-it-all lemmings and we went off and did our own thing. It was peaceful! But even after all the whining and crabbing – they were still bloody following us from zone to zone! Go figure. We had a T2 night about two months back and I was in OldRoar’s wb ..– we only had Spites left to take to turn it all blue. We banged our heads against the door for nearly an hour. Couldn’t get the oil down, door was open and we were looking at a tank wall. Pulled off the keep a few times to try to draw them out.. Someone in vent said (I can hear the voice but cannot remember the name atm to save my soul) – why don’t we try putting all the tanks with a healer or two in one group? Old fixed the groups – I let them know when I had full APs and we charged into the oil and the tank wall – tank wall crumbled, we rez’d inward, held bottom floor and took Spites. The ONLY way we got Spites was that one voice tossing out a suggestion and people who listened to our directions – the forum post after the battle was amusing and we never told them what we did to pull it off. With pugs, it’s a difficult puzzle at times to get all put together, but I think those victories are the sweetest.

Excellent - There's one of those battle memories (from 2 months ago already) that you will carry with you for a long time :)
