Fellow Slayers

An introduction may be appropriate- My name is Mudrath. Recent addition to the family, first off I would just like to raise my mug and drink to the family.

Second I would like to get to know any Slayers out there to try and compare notes. I have been doing some light reading on different builds and would just like to know what everyone is running and how effective it has been for them.

My initial idea with this character was big burst damage to down players- so I thought Gaintslayer build. That's is where my focus is right now- I have up to Cleft of Twain. And the numbers that I output tend to be pretty high- if I am not focused and dropped. I guess my question here is for shear single target damage is this the right approach- the overall damage is not what I am after just the ability to drop a target.

Thanks in advance.

First, welcome to the Family. I have a slayer in tier 3 right now and so far I have been building him in the dual wield spec (The Skavenslayer) so far I like it. That focus is more aoe damage which I found useful in breaking tank walls. I am alos loading my slayer with toughness and armor talismans to make him last a little longer.

Toughness is for PvP. Armor is for PvE. Wounds are going to be your better friend. As it take 5 toughness to even reduce a hit by 1. It all depends on how you run. If you have a tank gaurding you, wounds might not mean much. I would agree with maxing up your strength. You want to make sure your hits hit, and when they do, for more damage.

Welcome to the family. I've always run my slayers 2h. My Ernstes on Volkmar ran a DoT specialty burst spec. Total Strength/WS, cause he had two pocket healers and a WL at my side... My Arawin here runs a more defensive burst spec - mostly for duels but I assume it'd be okay for solo'ing as well. I haven't played my slayers since sometime before the AP fix patch so I haven't looked at my builds for quite a while; but I believe I have Arawin spec'ed up to Takin' Chances in Skavenslayer, Trollslayer up to Rune of Absorption (with Deep Wounds and Power through,) and everything else into Giantslayer. I really like Cleft in the Twain and would probably take Violent Impacts over Power through when I got the renown for it. Sorry I'm so out of practice or I'd have more advice for ya, I pretty much quit playing slayer in May 09'

Everything is subject to change with the upcoming patch as the Wounds debuff may be getting nerfed into the ground. There has been much grumbling and muttering but to what avail has yet to be seen. So as far as mastery spec goes I would take a sec and see where the dust settles after the patch.

Thanks for the recommendations- I have enjoyed the Slayer class quite a bit- and feel like stacking wounds after str and wpn skill may make the most since- I am almost always running with Vathurius(War Priest) so when he remembers I get some heals, but the ability to hold out a little longer may be helpful. The current tatics I am running with are Jagged Edge and Brute Force. If I can crit my target which puts a dot on them, along with Cleft of Twain, that seems to really help bring them down. At level 22 Cleft is the only mastery ability I have specced into. The rest don't seem worth it yet. Thanks for all the feedback.

My Slayer is only 20 but I must say I am a real big fan of the tactic Wild Gambit. You take a Toughness hit but like others have stated toughness isn't really doing to much for you anyway. Wild Gambit gives you pluses to Strength and Weaponskill. The Big thing, for me atleast, is getting good WS numbers at this lower level without sacrificing strength in the process. ANd I find that tactic really helps. Any established Slayers use that? I knwo its not as big a deal later on at 40. Down the road I was thinking running something like: Wild Gambit, Brute Force, Power through, and Push for More. Evenutally dropping either BF or WG when I hit Str cap.

Hi, welcome and all that. I only play a Slayer, Hellreike (rr51 now), and i've tried a few different builds. I used to run a 2 handed Trollslayer build, up to Rune of Absorption with power through, short temper and deep wound..the rest of my points in Giantslayer. Most of the time my tactics were Brute force, power through, short temper and Slaughter. RoA is a great ability...lots of damage and a half decent self heal. It was fairly solid, good survivability with RoA, but i got a bit bored with it and tried an AoE spec. For the AoE, I ran Skaven up to Inevitable Doom, with shatter limbs along the way, and Troll up to Deep Wound. Usually ran Brute Force, Wild Gambit, Slaughter and Push for More...with good results. This build does tons of damage, but your single-target burndown relies entirely on spamming deep wound and the fast auto attack from Push for more. this build is nice because it doesnt rely on push for more, so you can still dump you rage if it looks like you're gonna be taking a lot of hits. Also, you get to use Retribution because you're dual-wielding....and that can be handy. My current build has to be my favorite. Im running giantslayer up to Spellbreaker, with cleft in twain and devastate on the way, and troll up to deep wound with power through. I run power through, brute force, push for more and slaughter. this build burns down single targets very fast. with my usual SC group, my damage has actually gone up a little over the skaven build, and my killing blows per sc have nearly doubled. with this build, spellbreaker is your spammed attack, with a little deep wound mixed in to keep the healers workin overtime. like others have said, stack strength and weaponskill, with wounds when you can fit it in. and most importantly....have fun!

Oldish post but im new here n thought id say howdy. like a couple others, I run this build with a 2hander. sometimes a LoTD axe , depending on which talismans i have, or the scale breaker axe from LV. i started stacking weapon skill and i'm at about 750 ish ws with around 920 str, again depending on which LoTD talismans are equipped. and some dark promise/invader for gear. with Deadly Determination popping so often it dispatches the healers pretty quick. the weapon skill also helps in bringing down the tanks a little faster for clean up. And with the backup of the Phoenix Guards finest , survivability isn't much of a problem. http://www.wardb.com/career.aspx?id=2#13:8744:10:512:0:0:29:521:1472:1482:1477::::631:1500:1495:630 hope it helps, cheers to beers!
