I don't want to be a leader - is there something wrong with me? (an editorial)

The question posed in the title is rhetorical since I know there is nothing wrong with not wanting to be a leader. Although great leaders need many fine attributes to accomplish their leadership role, it is also true that it is great followers that help make great leaders. Uncontrollable followers make their leaders failures no matter how great the leader is. I am a great follower and although I have lead in other games and in RL it is not my purpose in WAR to become a leader.

When I create a character I do so with feeling and with purpose. I have an idea of who this character is when I am generating them from the way they will look to the attitude they will have in the game. I am a role player and I create a persona which each of my characters will have and each one is different.

Whurja is the little engineer that could....she will protect the rear of a unit in retreat or in advance. She will guard postern doors, battle field objectives, or the healers at the rear of a fight. Let her use her gadjets, mines, turrets, and sniping abilities and she is in heaven.

Rayvyn is the rascal that will take off to infiltrate a postern door or the rear lines of an enemy to put them in disaray and confusion. She is the one willing to run up the stairs and lay down in the lord's room to give an accurate enemy count. She has no fear of death as it is as much a part of her as loading her pistol or sharpening her blade. She is Clint Eastwood from "The Outlaw Josie Wells" where she feels she does more good taking the fight to the enemy rather than standing on a wall shooting from afar.

Morigana is a wizard who will gladly advise the leader and obey his/her every order yet stand defiantly on the parapet while casting fire down upon the enemy. Her only true desire is to burn as many Destro as she can whether it be standing in the front lines to draw their ire or at the rear for better control. She lets the flow of battle dictate the flow of her flames. She holds the belief that the good of the many far outweighs the need of the one. So if she can take 5 destro down with her she will gladly stike the match to light the funeral pyre.

Boudika is the protector of the wizards and the healers just as her lion protects her. Let an enemy pick on a cloth wearer and she will do all in her power to seperate their head from their body.
She will also gladly leap into the midst of the enemy to disrupt them and cause mass confusion since she is as wild and untamed as the beast that runs by her side.

These are my personas and none of them wish to lead a WB. Lead a small combat group into a keep or to infiltrate the enemy lines - that is pure heaven - lead a WB - not really in the cards.

What does this mean in the bigger scheme of Gaiscioch? I will probably never progress past where I am this day as far as rank in the guild. I won't seek out valor points by leading WB's since this isn't whom I chose to be within the game.

I see and hear that we have many fine leaders already along with many coming up in the ranks and I chose to be a follower since all great leaders need great followers. I am o.k. with this and am quite happy in this role. I would suggest that the powers-that-be may want to consider another ladder for those of us to climb that just wish to follow. The ladder you have now will create great leaders but there can logically only be so many great leaders within the guild.

I would be just as happy to be a royal guard, clan scout, or camp cook without the "leader" expectations or that ladder to climb.

Just some thoughts.....safe journ....my blade is yours....I am Gaiscioch!

Reading over what you said I can see where you are coming from. Most everyone does not want to lead and I can respect that, but also some people want to lead but definitely cannot. I feel that it is your choice to do as you wish to make your gaming experience as fun as it can possibly be. If in the future you change your mind I'm sure it will be because its something you want, not something you are forced to do. I look forward to seeing you in battle fighting next to me.

Whurja we love you. Eventually i will have a scout class branch of the family. Just haven't built it yet. In game you would hold the same ranks but out of game you would have a different title based on which path you took. It will just be some time before i get it going. Just know your a big part of this family no matter where you stand. The leadership system is more to give us something to do and stride for. It's not mandatory or anything :D

I know....I know....I have an extreme amount of fun in this game - I never thought I would love orvr as much as I do. Pitting my mind against another player is such a great feeling that I can't begin to describe it - whether I win, lose, or draw - whether I kill them - they kill me - I run away or they run away. This is the first game that I truly love the pvp mechanics in. I have defeated players 8 levels higher than me and been whopped by ones 8 lvls lower and have actually never felt bad about it. Knowing your class and the opponents class - watching your surroundings and using them to your advantage or the opponents disadvange all come into play. It is all part of the game. As you noticed a long time ago Fog....I am a protector....I like to watch out for other people but if I am a leader the responsibility broadens to a point I can't do what I love to do. As Bulz stated - the future may change - it always does - but for now I like my role. And don't worry about the other limbs on the tree - you plate is full - I'm not going anywhere. I am Gaiscioch! My sword is yours! (I need to make that a battle cry.)
