Please Kudo: Proposal: Re-purposing Scenarios
So we all know Scenarios are just simply not poping. They can't shard them out because of the VP issue. So here is an idea that not only frees up the SC's for sharding but also allows those that enjoy scenario play to do it at their leisure. This is not a quick fix and would most likely be a complete Rethinking of how SC's fit into the battlefield.
Before I start I want to warn you that without reading the whole thing you will jump to conclusions and miss the big picture. So before you click reply please read through the whole thing.
Phase 1: Remove Scenarios from VP slider
Currently with nobody doing scenarios it is impossible to flip a zone without domination. Scenarios do not pop on lower population servers. By removing them from the VP system you enable them to be sharded which leads us to our next point. In addition I would say Change Prior Tier to "Pairing" so that ALL Elf/Dwarf/Empire etc. T1-4 objectives are considered. 100% ownership of all objectives in a certain Pairing would result in a 100% prior tier bar and award 10 points to that side.
My New Proposed VP system
Objectives: 50% or 50 Points
Skirmish: 30% or 30 Points
PvE: 10% or 10 Points
Pairing: 10% or 10 Points
This way you would need at least 65 VP's to flip a zone which can be obtained by a combination of the above but prevents the defensive strategy of "Everyone leave the zone dont queue for scenarios, we dont want them to get points on our behalf". This stall tactic seems to be growing in popularity.
Phase 2: Create Cross-Server Scenario Servers (Sharding)
By Changing the VP system away from requiring SC's we can now shard the SC's giving a multi-server queue for scenarios. This will increase pops and give us the ability to add some new features.
Phase 3: Give Scenarios Incentives Outside Of Normal oRvR
Introduce a crest for T1 - T4 Scenarios like the oRvR medallions. These crests can be used to purchase exclusive Scenario gear, and decorative pieces as well as potions. Create a merchant that can sell these items. Perhaps a series of weapons where as the oRvR tokens get used for Armor. This would be a nice complement and get players participating in SC's more.
Phase 4: Statistics & Rankings, The Often Overlooked Addiction.
Anyone with a marketing or social networking background knows. That almost every person on the planet has a natural attraction to numbers. If people have statistics and rankings in front of them they will naturally work to improve them. This is the very premises behind MMO gaming. What I would propose is creating Ladders for each Scenario not only on a Individual Basis but a Collective Guild Ranking section as well. An ability to sort by server would also be nice. Use this ranking on the website to promote individual Guilds and Players perhaps even adding the Top 10 for each side into the capital cities. In addition a system that allows premades to compete against premades would be awesome. Allowing for 12 member guild groups to take on other 12 member guild groups would help stimulate the competitive side. Several other titles have use this technique to great success and it helps build a natural competitive environment to the game. Some other ideas for rewards are: Exclusive Titles, Tactics, Skills, based on performance in scenarios. Perhaps even guild trophies for the standard. You built the functionality you just never introduced the ability to use them.
And that is the base plan for fixing the lingering scenario problem. I think it's pretty sound and could help stimulate some activity. Thoughts? Feedback? Kudos?
