What is the best way for a Marksman to get caught up in gear? I figure crafted pieces are probably the best path and that if a crafter helps me with the piece information, I could than request in marketplace.

Go from Crafted Gear into PvP Gear it's the easiest non-raiding required casual gear flow. Even when you lose you still make points. Play port scion when you get 50 and sit on the bridge, spray everything and watch the favor roll in. :)
There are a few ways to go: 1. Pvp your way into gear (the negative of this is that it has no hit for the harder lv 50 content) 2. chain queue up in dungeons and you WILL get good blues for your level as you complete a dungeon, and there may well be drops you win the roll on. 3. get to lv 45, then chain insta adventures. You will get sourcestones that can be used to buy fairly decent blue/purple gear. 4. order gear in marketplace. basically look in leather armor (or dagger/bow) and look at what there is at your level range, and submit an order for them (don't worry about adding in augments unless you already have some, you'd be replacing it shortly anyways at lv 50) 5. do all of the events and rifts with some others that are at your level or higher, earn the sourcestones or win rolls for gear upgrades. That's all of the ways I can think of that work fairly well. questing gets you mostly green gear with blue weapons.
I believe you would want the Exotic Leather gear for crafted gear. I believe that's the level 40-something crafted gear. And yeah, don't bother trying for an augment in the gear as it will be replaced soon anyway. And then when you reach level 45, just chain up some Instant Adventures until you hit 50, which will go very fast. They are listed under your "activities" (the typical PLAY button in your menu), and will become available at 45.
Tearney and I are much in the same boat as you, though I think we're only 30. I think we're even playing the same type of class as well. Welcome to the club!
Wow. I was 42 when I came back. I am now 44 and it didnt feel like I even did anything. About an hour crafting, fog's run the other day and bam.
Edit: oh and I hadn't realized how nice the current edition of the marketplace was for being able to search by level.

Dont forget to look at the planar goods merchants IP and the Lanternhook? should have 39 40 stuff then 45+ frm the merchants in the end zones. Basically free stuff seeing your probably getting planerite from runiing family events and crifitng.
