Anyone looking at Tera Online

I a dieing for something to waste some time away until GW2 comes out, and have even fired up the Rift account again and am playing a rogue again but this time on Defiant with my brother, just for pvp (Kallam and Kolbey).

Anyway has anyone been looking at Tera? Looks graphically cool and the movement/fighting looks very fresh with a new approach. It has been out in Korea for a year or so and over there the pvp is said to be lacking in the game but the PvE is suppose to be amazing.

The pre-start for Tera is April 28th so I am thinking it will be out before GW 2. I hope I am wrong but with closed beta not even started on GW 2 i don't see it coming out until after summer. I really hope I am wrong but I can't imagine for marketing/sales numbers they would release in the summer during prime vacation time.

The podcast reviews say awesome gameplay but no endgame as yet. Might be worth a look for some fun levelling. My only worry is that it might be a grindfest, but looks pretty good so far.

I really wasn't a fan of it for three reasons. 1: The combat wasn't really my style. Unless you have cleaves/aoe or are a ranged class, the aiming/combat system almost penalizes you. 2: This game is VERY korean/grindy. Not as much as some games out there, but the korean grind is at the game's heart. IMO, there is no place for insane grind in a game made in 2012. Now when i say grind, let me give you an example. You will get dozens of kill fairy or kill tiger quests. Not collection where i need fur or teeth, kill. As in go kill 10 kill mobs. In this game, mobs rolling in packs of 8-12. After killing one of these mobs, maybe 1-3 would count for the kill tally. That's not right, imo. Doesn't sit right with me. 3: This may paint me to be a prude, but that is far from the truth. But along with being very grindy, this game is VERY creepy in a sexual way. Why? for two reasons. One, there is a physics engine designed specifically for breasts. They are huge, and they will sway like you are running while you are standing still. Two, there is a female race that is a small cat girl anime thing. Well, it looks like a 12 year old girl and has the sluttiest of all the voice lines and emotes. Like i said, i'm not a prude, but these things creeped me out. Especially when i heard the most popular race in Korea is the previously mentioned sex cat race because "they have a small hit box", which i'm sure is the exact reason why. lol. These are simply the opinions i got while playing the beta. I'm sure a lot of people will like it, but it's just not for me.

Aion was a grind for sure at release but as they catered to our market it changed. From a few posts I read of people that have been playing for a year in Korea they say the grind is nothing like Aion at release. The leveling is pretty quick, and the gear grind is non exisitant. I too do not want to play another grind like Aion but I think I will give this a shot. Beta doesn't seem to hard to get into and you can always pre-order and get the head start and all the betas. If anyone does decide to play around with it let me know. Depending on when GW 2 releases more info on a release date I will playing it with a few of my brothers.

The Combat system definitely broke away from the traditional MMO mold but that doesn't make it bad, just different. Also makes PVP balancing much more difficult. And on that note, the game is extremely PVE and Story based with very little to offer for PVP. The classees all look generic, but they changed that up by weapon swapping stuff (Tank uses Spear+Shield for example), But that just makes it more limiting. And yeah all the female stuff is kinda overkill compared to past games. I Think the entire basis of Tera is someone went: "Hey Lets make Dead or Alive an MMO!"

Tera seems to have decidely mixed buzz! After SWTOR i have decided to sit this out. Plus I am re-in love with Rift due to my new cleric (Obeedo) and our fantastic Family! The knitting club does seem quite interesting however...
