I'm new to the family but I thought I would try and think of a way to introduce myself and help the Extra-Life event on Oct. 15th. So here it is... I'm a Guardian type of guy. I like begin a Guardian; it's my only character in Rift. But, some of you seem to be a little dark and twisty and prefer the dark side (ominous music cue here). So here it is.. On Oct. 15, I will be playing for the EL charity for the Gaiscioch team. I will be creating a... gulp.. defiant character for the event. I will keep this character and transfer him to Faeblight after it's all over. IF YOU ARE THE HIGHEST (or only) GAISCIOCH CONTRIBUTER, YOU'LL GET TO NAME THE TOON! While highly unlikely, you could be making history! So all you, Defiant purveyors of darkness can take an active role in the corruption of a dedicated Guardian!

So there it is.. Hello all and nice to meet you!

LOL.. We'll see if my mind can be changed after I drink the proverbial Defiant kool-aid. And I just realized that I have no idea what class to play either.. hmm

No donations/suggestions yet.. Maybe I should just stay Guardian all the way. Maybe they are the better side. ;)

Both sides are the good guys, and as a matter of fact, there is more to suggest that the guardians are in fact the better faction. To those that are zealous religion haters, might I remind you that in the lore of rift, the gods exist. They are smarter then us, more powerful then us, but are really nice, maybe a bit passive aggressive. I am an Atheist but if I existed in rift, I'd be a guardian. I mean seriously if the gods exist AND they are nice people? Sure, totally! At the same time you still get the bad with the fanatics who want to kill just because they don't worship the vigil. At the same time this can be said about the defiant, as THEY are more then willing to kill guardians just because they are guardians. So that is somewhat of a mute point. On the flip side of the coin you got the defiant. Technologists who value truth(the gods exist, that is a fact, in rift), knowledge, and the pursuit of more knowledge. Which is not unlike our own society, again it is hard to know the bad from good. Though what tips the scales in favor of the guardians is this; The Defiant have no rules or checks on their science. There are no rights for animals, rift creatures, or other humanoids against abuse. They also have no limits on what should, or shouldn't be researched, what experiments shouldn't be done. When a guardian seeks knowledge he/she asks the vigil, who would know if they can know it too. The vigil being smarter, wiser, and more experienced, also knows whether or not this knowledge would be dangerous. They act as a check for ourselves and not only protect the guardians from the dragons but also themselves. Personally weighing the 2 I would rather be a guardian, in the end I'd rather be happy and content. Not to mention there is an afterlife, I am unsure of defiant have created one yet.

Hmmm let's see... Shyla Starhearth becomes Shyla the Fallen, Herald of Regulos King Aedraxis let's loose the dragons Alsbeth becomes the right hand woman of Regulos Frederic Kain becomes another minion of Regulos Uriel Chuluun is possessed by the Abyssal and is saved. The Faceless Man is REpossessed by the Abyssal and also is saved. Asha Catari is offered immortality and endless power by Regulos...and sends him packing. Anyone else recall any Defiants being permanently corrupted?

I'm actually learning some serious Rift philosophy/lore from this discussion. :) I wonder if Telara had a charity event, which faction would indeed be the most charitable?

Methos, if you want true perspective, try running the Defiant starting zone. It is set in the FUTURE, at the very end of Telara's days just as Regulos finishes us all off. See, Defiants know how the world will end unless the dragons are stopped. The Vigil was either defeated or just disappeared, not sure which... The Guardian NPCs in the Defiant zone are literally in league with the Endless Court and Regulos and are bent bound determined to prevent any Defiant ascended from making it to the past to help prevent that ending.
