I primarily tank, but I've found I need a dps role for those not-so-few times when I'm called on to dps either because the tank is better geared, more familiar, and/or stubborn enough that I need something to do other than wiping a group by stealing their aggro. I've known this for awhile so I have a dps role and I've accumulated several pieces of dps gear including a shiny new crafted claymore (the new 1.4 piece). I also have dps shoulders from GP, which Nomad was kind enough to give me after he won the roll fair and square because he knew I was using tank shoulders at the time. I'm currently sitting at around 25% crit self-buffed.

I know I have some pieces of equipment that could use enhancing but primarily I need help finding a good PvE dps spec and macros. I don't mind using a pet and would prefer that to a complicated rotation. I'm currently sitting at about 910 dps on the boss dummy with self buffs and don't run out of energy. Ever. I'm using a modified version of the 1.3 AoE powerhouse build from the forums.

Any suggestions for a new role and macros, or do I just need to work on gear to get to the coveted 1k dps that is supposed to be the minimum for GSB?

Do you mean 1k minimum for Hammerknell by chance? Most people go into GSB with about 700-900 single target. Sounds like you're doing pretty well as it is, without seeing your gear. The spec you have is probably the least fussy and most mashing. I like to use it when I'm not entirely sober as it's pretty much foolproof and you can do decent DPS with about 3 buttons. It's also probably the best in fights with a lot of movement. Weapons make up probably the majority of the DPS, so if you're not rocking 2x 29.4 daggers/swords, then you're probably better off going a 2H. If you want a little more DPS, I use the 33 Champ/26 BM/7RB and the rotation which is written up in this thread, which probably isn't perfect anymore, but still damn good. http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?206270-Now-begins-the-1.3-PVE-DPS-theorycrafting.-Step-in...

I had been told that groups going into GSB wouldn't take anyone who did less than 1k dps, but that could have been an exaggeration. I do like how "mashy" this role is, and it puts up impressive AoE when that's needed. Maybe I'll stick with it and focus on equipment upgrades for awhile. I know I need new greaves (still using a blue from t2) and my lesser essences can definitely use some improvements. I'm using the Blood-Forged Claymore (41.3 dps) with a Flawless Thiefstone augment on it for dexterity (physical crit) so DPS shouldn't be an issue. I'm not sure how serious the thread I found this on was, but this role claims to be around 1290 dps and brings Spotter's Order to the table for those situations where the main tank isn't running Warlord: 38 RB/26 Champ/2 Warlord The 33/26/7 was a build I was looking at, except maybe pulling one of the points from Cruel Efficiency and putting it in Brutal Punishment because I think I currently have enough Hit. The whole movement thing is something I hadn't previously factored in, although the pet is able to contribute some additional damage in movement-intense fights (I'm thinking specifically of the "Simon Says" boss in GP, Uruluuk in GP, and the Duke in GSB, along with the first and last bosses in DH). Looking at the 33/26/7 I guess power starvation is a concern and the way that pets tend to die on cleaving bosses.

Although I am not yet GSB, I have experimented with all the souls. I can testify that if you are seeking fearsome DPS, try out a Paragon build. Its like a Super Ranger in Plate less a fast bow. Running duel blades and using the abilities correctly its incredible. I ran DPS only all the way to level 30. This gave me a good feel for groups and such before I started any tanking which I had never done. Paragon/Champion/Rift Blade (for some ranged) I have ran a parser a few times with this build and was nearly always doing much more damage than anyone else in the group yet not often getting aggro. But even if I did, my AC can take a licking. Something like this. I use it often and its fierce. Click here for a soul tree tool @ zam.com showing the build
