Lately I have been really wanting some real PvP and it seems I cannot get it in Rift. I love the game and its abilities to have many different roles for one char, but the PvP is severely lacking and that is really the only reason I play MMO's.

yeah I know the feeling. picked up AoC to see if the PvP there is any good but I am doubtful I'll be happy. Really hoping GW2 comes out soon...
GW2 is my hope as well. Rift PvP is just not there. It may be in the future, but right being 50, fully T2 geared, and twiddling with no spontaneous end game content available at 50 is hurting my enjoyment of Rift a great deal.
Sounds like there's a lot more folks that are currently playing Rift that have the hunger for world pvp a lot of us old Gaiscioch Warhammer guys miss.
I, for one, was like a lot of our big pvp'ers and just couldn't stomach the "pvp" that's in Rift. It's just not there. Not to say it's not a good game. Its' PVE is fantastic. I just hate PVE. Hence why I only played Rift for a week before I gave it up.
We're all waiting for GW2 to come out as well and I personally, very much, look forward to getting to know a lot of our new Rift-born players that love PvP as well. I've heard great things about you Wildflower, and I got to play with Luma and Zavrin a tiny bit before Gaiscioch moved on from Warhammer.
I was just watching an old pvp video from Warhammer where I led as Rravensbane in T2 and we won a nail biter against a VERY good BRUTAL team. It made me nostalgic of the "good ol' pvp days" :P Here's the clip:

Good times. Although that footage is clearly fake. I saw my mini Engineer "Dargrons" alive and standing while Dannain was lying dead beside him. I was sure that only ever happened in reverse.
I'm more a PvE guy myself, but I do enjoy some PvP every now and then. However, as I don't PvP a lot I don't see the problems as main PvP people do. Could someone explain whats lacking in Rift PvP wise? For example, I see RvR mentioned a lot, but have no real idea what that is (I know it means Realm vs Realm, but not much beyond that). Also, what is that you are hoping Guild Wars 2 will do for PvP? Never played the first guild wars, but I have looked a little at the races/classes in GW2 and it looks interesting. Are there different servers, shards, or whatever you want to call them. Do they have PvE, PvP, RP type separations as well? Thanks for helping a PvP noob understand.
Hehe, cept Ben was running out in FRONT as a Archmage. Not the smartest of moves as a player but then again he was just trying to be the camera man.
Trinak, RvR is realm vs realm. In Guild Wars 2, it'll be called World vs World vs World (or WvWvW or WvW). Basically you tend to have two types of pvp in video games. Instanced, prearranged, balanced teams pvp fights (Battlegrounds in WoW, Warfronts in Rift, and Scenerios in WAR) and world pvp (RvR in WAR and DAOC, WvW in GW2, WoW didn't really have true world pvp similar to Rift even though it could *happen*-both Rift and WoW lack castles and other forms of objectives) World pvp is uninstanced, unbalanced (classes will be balanced, but the sides never are), unpredictable, and is more similar to "real" warfare where you have small, medium, large objectives, supply lines, and usually siege weapons.

@Trinak: don't know if I can explain it right, but I'm sure others will chime in.
As I see it.
1. Rift does not have any objects (castles or other strongholds) that can be claimed, attacked or defended.
2. Players can walk right through each other, this makes it impossible for a small team to out wit another team with clever tactics.
3. No reward system in place for owPvP.
4. No zones can be captured.
5. Battles greater than 20 v 20 is impossible due to limitations in the games ability to show that many objects.
6. Unfair crowd control that makes it very hard to beat any fotm group.
7. PvP was an afterthought by the game developers, not a mechanics that they use any real time or money on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that in GW2 each faction is a whole server and when you fight others, it is against another server, so you can PvE and RP all you want too, just stay out of the PvP marked zones.
in GW2 you can level 100% in PvP and not be gimped in gear.
GW2 claimes to keep the PvE and PvP experience separate .
Let me see if can find the PvP mechanics YouTube link.
I have more, but my phone gets sad at large messages.

That last season of BfB was truly epic, before mythic ruined it all with 1.4 I remember seeing that horde charging over the hill at MoM while I was scouting on my witch hunter. Then having to dive into the fray when my stealth ran out. Rift's sub 50 pvp isn't too bad, though it is very repetative due to the limited number of warfronts. Once you hit 50 though, it's like in warhammer when you were a fresh 40 going up against the rr 80 premades, except you're stuck in a warfront so you can't compensate with numbers.
Ok, that all makes senses. So I'm assuming that the World PvP objectives (castles, lands, etc) are persistent and can be attacked/defended at any time. That sounds interesting.
Rift content does not have much for PvP period. You can get up to Prestige 6, but that does absolutely nothing for your character besides allowing access to the prestige gear and unlocking tiers in the PvP soul. And after prestige 6, there's absolutely nothing else to do in terms of PvP. Games like DAoC and Warhammer were built around RvR/PvP because it made your char better, and the world changed based on what you did in the RvR zones. You could get to max level and if you didn't want to PvP that was fine, you didn't have to. Your gear or abilities would not suffer from it. However, if you did decide to PvP, there was a whole new world to conquer and make your mark. Max level was just the start of something awesome. Unfortunately, Mythic was bought out by EA and WAR went to crap. DAoC died to WAR because of the graphics upgrades and simpler UI, and the learning curve was much easier to grasp in WAR. I'm really hoping GW2 pulls through, I need to be able to kill people when I want to and not wait for a WF or SC to pop. As great as those are in pulling people into one place to PvP, they lack in being true tests of a person's skill because you can easily overrun them with a decent premade. Where Rift did get it right in PvP, skill trumps gear any day of the week. It's nice to at least know that a person who doesn't have 10hours of extra time every day can still do great in PvP because they know their char better than their opponent. Only thing better than that is gear and skill =)
OMG this looks like DAoC 2!!! =) 3 zones to take control of? PERFECT!
Yup, except what's even better is the two opponents you fight against changes every week or every 3 weeks (Arenanet hasn't decided yet from what I've read).
Wow. I never seriously considered GW2 until now.
I want to beta test this please =)
RIFT's Warfronts actually sates my PvP needs. Especially The Codex and the Battle for Port Scion.
What I do miss though is doing PvP with the rest of the family, beating the other side into a pulp, and making fun of them on vent.
Although, we did have that kind of fun during the early stages of The Telara Saga. But Bentmer's Awesome PvP Group beat the Defiants so bad they stopped showing up.
We also saw a raid group of PvP flagged Defiants last Wednesday when we were doing crafting rifts. I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one who was itching to pick a fight.
I'm also looking forward to Guild Wars 2. But since it's not due until next year. I'll just keep my eye out on the "100 vs 100 Port Scion" in RIFT.

Hey, dont know if any of you remember me but, its Shooooooooooootin, also looking for some good PvP. Anyone know if Warhammer got any better or is the population still going down? Also hope to play GW2 with some familiar faces when it comes out!
I will definitely be watching GW2 after watching Alexridiculous's youtube videos. I was already sold with the top 10 reasons vid but that PvP video just sealed the deal for me. I will definitely be wanting to test this game before it comes out.
Old is right, World of Tanks is some very addictive PVP, and its FREE. If you like tanks and PVP you will love WoT.

I beta tested WoT and it is extremely additive and fun, only 2 reasons to why I stopped playing it, first was 400% renown in warhammer, 2nd I figured that it costed money to continue to play. Guess I need to download it again :)
