I think rift hates me. Since the last patch I have been getting constant freezing in game. This is usually after a few minutes but can sometimes be after 30mins. I have been on the Rift forums and seems this is a problem many people are having, yet nothing seems to be done to resolve it by Trion. Anyone have this issue or have any idea how to solve it?
do you mean momentary video sputtering or a complete game lockup?
complete game lockup which also completely freezes up my computer
Might not be related, but when this was happening to me I took the pc apart and cleaned every bit of dust out. Turns out the freezing and shut down was because my fans were choked with dust and cat hair... I also shaved the cat.
I use a laptop so not sure if i can clean all of it out quite as easily.
I still recommend shaving the cat
Did you run the repair tool on the launcher? I think that's supposed to fix any patch files that might have corrupted the game. Update your video drivers? Adjust your graphics settings? Sometimes patches make current configurations obsolete and they won't work anymore. I have found that new "ambient occlusion" to be buggy as hell, and have disabled it in graphics settings. Doesn't seem to work on ATI, and I know in the last patch notes they said they put a "fix" for ATI but they didn't specify for what! So maybe it screwed something up for you?
That does sound like it could be an over heating issue. It is getting to be warmer these days. Do you have a software monitor that shows the temp of your CPU(s) and GPU(s)? I use All CPU Meter V 3.3 by Addgadget.com and GPU Observer by Orbmu2k. My gear runs fine up to about 70c and then I know its time to clean the dust away from the fans and heat sinks.
was a lot of dust in the laptop - cleaned it out best I could but didn't have a small enough screwdriver for the fan. Graphics card was running at 72c before I cleaned it - is now at 44c, so will see if that helps. Graphics card drivers were up to date and updated BIOS now. Decided to reinstall Rift as the recover wasn't working so thought it was best to start again clean. Will see if this all helps once patcher has updated
