Make sure to claim your characters again so that things like the marketplace and events will work properly. Also make sure to cancel any orders placed on your old name and reorder them on your new name.

Fog, can you give any insight on why Trion is suddenly being so ridiculous when it comes to renames? I've seen several long-time players renamed over the last week. It seems odd that they would let them be for 2 months before deciding their names were inappropriate... I know you have some contacts at Trion and I was just wondering if you had any insider info?
They recently changed their naming policy on RP shards. It can be read here: http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?183689-CS-Feedback-and-RP-Server-character-names-%28or-A-visit-from-the-analogy-police%29&p=2348549&viewfull=1#post2348549 Basically if someone thinks your name falls into one of those categories they can report you for it and GM will look at it and decide. I suppose GM's could do this on their own, but I doubt they have the time to take that kind of initiative. Thats why the sudden changes.
They also have a new toy which tries to detect spam better and it also has a dictionary tool which can find conjunction names and flag them. Same type of thing you use on a dictionary password hack. The script puts a red flag which a gm either submits a namechange request or clears.
rpers... again.... mutters semi-coherently
Well it is a RP server.
EDIT to add: And personally I don't care what people name themselves, but I did know the risk when I rolled here. Hopefully my name is okay.

Why did I just know someone would come along and blame RPers. I've seen it again in guild chat too which is why I'm running with guild chat turned off . . again. *sighs* RPers are not the only ones reporting people who . . wait for it . . are not following Trion's own naming rules. Trion is just enforcing rules they've had in place since day 1.
I agree with Zashyn on this one. I do not RP, however I do prefer a more strict naming policy which is one thing I like about RP servers (that and the community tends to be slightly better than a normal server). Most names I'm fine with, but I'd rather not see a xxMonkeyxx or EdwardCullen running around.

Zashyn, I believe the comment was that RPers pushed Trion to ammend the original naming policy. Many of the current offenders have been running on the server with the same names since launch. They've had time to build up friends and a reputation.
That reputation is now gone - when your name changes in an MMO you become a different person to anybody outside of a circle of friends who know the situation. Yes, it IS an RP server and yes - I know that if Trion had their way they wouldn't have a separate naming policy for RP servers. I can understand how their hands are tied (and why they didn't want to act before) but that doesn't really change how crappy the situation is for anybody hit by the name police.
Do I believe that this policy change is in response to the needs of RPers? Absolutely. Do I blame RPers? Not at all - as mentioned, this is an RP server. I have done my share of RPing and there is a certain expectation that goes along with playing on an RP server.

Guess im Lucky I didn't name myself IM Fabulous:)
I fully support this change in enforcement. In my reading before I joined the policy was here from the start, and one of the attractions coming to the server, and I was disappointed that it was not enforced. It's not hard to come up with an RP name. Also verbalising RPers in guild chat / forums is not cool. People should remember that there are all sorts of subgroups in a large guild, and not everyone will have the same viewpoint. I don't like political correctness taken to extremes, but you have to realise if you make a blanket statement about some group that is offensive you will be offending someone. The reputation point becomes moot in 1.3 sadly. Once server transfers come in, it will certainly become easy to clear a bad reputation. If you keep tabs on players you like to play with it's easy to find them again after one or the other of you has been name changed.
There are a great many names that I've seen in my journeys around Telara that I was astounded was allowed on a RP server, even within our own guild. I was the victim of renaming in WoW in years past and it sucks hard, but really, I knew the score going in. While I sympathize with people who got whammied, in the end, that person had to know it might happen.
Ok guys, we don't need to get all huffy here. Fact. This is a Roleplaying Server. 1. It has a mature audience. Look at our Demographics guys. Average age is between 30 - 40. 2. The Price of being with the mature crowd is having MATURE names. Which is how Roleplaying Servers generally build their naming policies. SirMixsAlot is not going to have a secure home here. Sorry. It is the cost of living on this server. I understand this really sucks that you've gotten by for 2.5 months with a name and now have to face having it changed. But this is the rules of living here. If you want to live on the Bora Bora of servers in this game you've gotta play by the rules. That is all that needs to be said. I Posted this not to start a debate or get a flame war started. I posted this so I know WHO to promote, and WHO these orders should go to. Nothing more. Keep those blades outward folk.
But Fog, SirMikksALot was my favorite ALT! All joking aside, I didn't mean to sound huffy (it's just a happy natural result of being a grump). I just believe that Trion could have handled the situation better - I suspect that many of the renames saw it coming.
What about those that are "violators" but with RP in mind? I was going to RP with my rogue "waitforit" under the premise that it was an assassin nicknamed earned through business, waiting for the right opportunity for the kill and all that jazz. I was waiting for PvP rank6 and being decked out in PvPR6 gear before doing it for obvious reasons. There is an appeal e-mail, but what is the point if it's not to make exceptions? If you have been wrongly tagged, re-name your character, and stick a ticket in-game, the GM's have a decent response time. I remember OldRoar once accidentally deleted one of his lvl50 toons, he contacted a GM and it was sorted out in 10 minutes. Or last Rift Hunt in Droughtlands, I said in region "GM can we have an invasion please?", the response was rather instant. AFter multiple attempts to appeal the name change, mind you only for my rogue, GM soulwalker, very politely said any more attempts will be ignored. Most of the responses I got sounded scripted in the first place, the whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.
My name is doomed. Someone is gonna get me. I'll be so sad had this name for a long time through many games. :/
Laughter! Welcome to the Family.
I've often said to myself, "Self, what could we use more of in guild chat?" And the reply from self was fairly consistent "Well, more Laughter would be good..." So - thanks, and welcome!
I'm with Zashyn. I don't RP, and I don't have much use for RP (except for that one guy who RPs a prophet of Regulos -- he's brilliant), but I'm a stickler for RP-appropriate names, and I always report the most egregious ones. I don't have any sympathy for folks who've lost community goodwill due to a forced namechange.
