Why are Geodes and the like on the Marketplace?

I'm curious why Geodes, Agates, Corundum and Beryl are on the marketplace. In case you're not a miner, these are "gem containers" you randomly get when you mine metal. When you open them, you get a random gem that corresponds to the skill level of the item.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I typically open these bad boys as soon as I get them. So personally I know I'm never going to have a stack of these for the marketplace. Secondly, one of these items can contain one of a number of gems - so if a marketplace buyer wanted a specific gem, wouldn't it be better to request the gem itself instead of a geode?

So I guess I don't see the necessity for these items to be on the marketplace. Or is there something I'm missing here?

Same. I stack them because it is better to stack one item than 2 or howevery many different types can come out of a container.

They may be necessary for Guild Gathering quests, for mining. I know that Orichalcum and Lightspar Agate (The orichalcum geode) are used for the level 50 one. I think it might be people trying to buy guild experience.

Bazkore hit the nail on the head. The mining weekly guild quest requires 10 of a certain container. Just as people use the marketplace to level their crafting levels we can now use it to put guild leveling into hyperspeed. I encourage all to do this weekly quest as often as possible. Server resets reset the timer so some of us have done it 4+ times this week. Level 20 here we come.

Before this patch there was no reason. But now... its a pain in the butt to find those so if people have them on hand it goes a long way. Believe it or not i put 4 orders on the marketplace and all of them have been filled.
