I'm the type of player that enjoys getting immersed in the game. As such, I am a big fan of player housing. The implementation in LotRO was pretty good, but felt like they abandoned it once they had it in place.

I read this write-up today on the direction that the developers of ArcheAge are taking with player housing and absolutely love a lot of these ideas.

Imagine a nice little Gaiscioch community set somewhere in Moonshade Highlands with each of our houses, a great hall and some community trading and crafting halls. Okay, it'd be huge, but still. How cool would that be?

Don't really care if I get my own house. However having our own guild Tavern in the middle of Moonshade would be pretty cool. Have a Giant statue of Fog in the center courtyard. Of course it would have its own wardstone and could be taken over by invasions and even enemy players. Would Bring a whole new level of open world PVP.

I think it would be tricky with Rift just because of the size of the landscape. Star Wars Galaxies had the best player housing of any game. I could hang anything cool I got up on the walls or create things like bars from crates and a board. However, SWG had a HUGE landscape. Instanced housing isn't too much fun. I actually think the fact that there are rift invasions would make player towns even more fun because you could defend your territory from attack.

Runes of Magic as done a wonderful job with player housing as how EQ2. I've spent many a happy hour in my houses redecorating and hanging out with friends.

Asheron's Call 1 had great player housing too. Only downside is the lack of player congregation once everyone had their own apartment, cottage, or villa. They would have to open a new zone just for housing in Rift. Probably an instanced version would be doable. Vigil knows I could use more storage!
