The quest line starts with Cardinal Fiasch in Sanctum. However, there are numerous steps you have to have completed prior to getting that start. I'm almost to the last working step of the epic (which is marked as the Cult Saga Story for Guardians), and as many guildmates can tell you it's been a long grueling journey. I can help with questions about each quest, but my memory requires some prompting. Before I go any further, I should add that as of last night there was still no way to finish the quest line in the Greenscale Raid (although a Trion dev has stated on the forums on several occasions that it SHOULD have been available for conclusion as of patch 1.1). The item required for that last step is dropping, but without the quest it's still worthless. Meanwhile, the Defiant epic was complete during beta and the last quest in the Greenscale Raid would complete for all Defiant players in the raid. The reward for the quest is the best weapon in the game (currently). And currently, only a Defiant player can have it. Hopefully, that will be fixed eventually along with them fixing the numerous bugs in the early parts of this quest line (which wasn't even available in beta). With a few exceptions, this quest line requires a group of at least 3 depending on levels and such. Attempting to solo this is... inadvisable even at level 50. Trion has stated that this line is meant to remind us of the epic quests of other MMOGs. Evidently that includes why most of us didn't bother with them and/or why we hated them so very very much. Yet I, for one, persist in this line despite repeated bequests to do otherwise.
The line starts in Sanctum, talking with Cardinal Fiasch in the council room. You must have completed the storyline in Silverwood, including all the spirit quests. You may need to have your Low Quests indicator turned on, since chances are good that the first several quests will be grey to you by that point. As I recall, you'll need to do the following things in subsequent quests (many of which will be grey by the time you get to them, but the later ones will give experience)
1) Go to the Mirror of Ages and kill an Elite level 16 mob. The Mirror of Ages is near the Old Man Statue in Silverwood
2) Kill both Gnarladon and Cinderon in Silverwood. Both are zone invasion bosses in Silverwood. This part of the quest was recently changed so that if you tag the mob you should get credit - previously you had to get loot rights and even then it was... uncertain whether you would get credit for the item. You will also need to go talk to the Messenger of the Vigil in the starter area (the first NPC you talked to after coming through the tutorial area)
3) You'll need to "catch" a changeling in the Palisade of Silverwood by touching a quest item to each of the Aelfwar. Sometime in there, the mob will turn into Ceiladh (a level 16 or so Elite) and before she dies you'll need to use a second quest item (a GTAE "ash") to imprison her in a third quest item - a bottle. I had to have a GM step this for me after I successfully found, ashed, and killed the mob 6 times without getting the proper advance. I hope and pray it's been fixed by now - some people don't have any problem with it some do.
4) You'll need to go to Overwatch Keep, grab 3 different items from the top of the outer towers and either jump from said towers or face off against a level 16 Elite and his stooges at each location.
5) You'll need to go back to Overwatch Keep, go to the bottom of each of the caves there and kill a "root" that spawns at each location. The root generally does PBAE damage and is, if memory is accurate, a level 16 Elite. It was very grey to me at the time, so I might be wrong. Afterwards, you'll wander around the top of Overwatch looking for a 1st Order Druid who is at 75% health yet has not been in a fight. You'll use a quest item on her and she'll turn into a VERY hard-hitting level 16 Elite.
6) You'll need to go into Realm of the Fae (regular, not expert - don't know if expert will work but I wouldn't want to find out). There you will summon and kill a mob that looks like a purple panther (can't remember the name offhand). He'll be about a level 20 Elite.
7) While you're in RotF doing the above step, after each boss in the dungeon you'll be confronted with a wave of spread-out mobs led by a level 16 (or so) Elite. The first wave will be archers, second wave mages, last wave warriors.
This is where things get a bit confused as far as order goes, so in no particular order over the rest of the quest you will have to:
* Go over to Freemarch and find a mob near Meridian who sits in the tent there but occasionally comes out to the broken stone wall. Once he's as far out from the tent as he will go (and he'll pause at the tree there) you'll need to kill him before he manages to run away and call for help. If he calls for help, you will die to the Meridian guards and NPCs.
* A run of King's Breach - there's a book in front of the tent near the first big tree on your right as you enter that will spawn Ryedelan the Librarian (boss-level mob with some friends). If you can take her out, you might as well do the rest of the dungeon because she's just as difficult as the rest of the bosses.
* A run of Runic Descent - after the end boss you'll see a Vessel of Estrode, which will spawn a Shade of... something or another. He's the same level as the dungeon and a basic tank n spank.
* You'll need to find Durne the Ranger in Scarwood Reach - she patrols from the Mill almost all the way to the south end of the zone. And as you'd suspect by now she will not simply give you the quest item but instead will turn into a level 45 (or so) Elite and call up three or four other level 45 Elite friends.
* You'll need to go to Stillmoore and find Marshall (can't remember his name, starts with a K) Holy Symbol in Briarcliffe. He'll spawn at the top of the town and travel down before depopping if nobody kills him (at which point you'll have to abandon the quest and restart this step in Sanctum). He's a level 50 Elite and you have to get him down to about 20% health before using the Symbol to convince him of the error of his ways.
* You'll need to get Revered faction with Icewatch (start early - this takes FOREVER) so you can check a book out of their library.
* You'll need to go to Stillmoore and close a Major Life rift, follow the dousing rod to the south-west section of Stillmoore and fight a group of mobs there (including an elite, of course). Getting the Dousing Rod to work is tricky even after you manage to get credit for the life rift (some people haven't gotten it to work short of opening and completing a raid rift!)
* You'll need to convert 10 Aelfwar in Stillmoore (Free Their Souls - the quest I'm on now). Unfortunately, this step is currently broken but it might have been fixed by the hotfix or server reset. I'll know later tonight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ8CEXtHWUg
* You'll need to go to Shimmersand and find then kill a creature from the black lagoon (who is living in the oasis with the raptor nests nearby)
* You'll need to find an unmarked grave in Moonshade (I can remember where it is, but I don't have the loc now). You'll also need to go to the western section of Moonshade and summon the Attercap King - yup another Elite.
I believe there are more steps to the quest. Your rewards (other than coin and maybe some experience) are spaced few and far between. A necklace item I had leveled out of by the time I'd earned it. Another necklace that was OK up until around level 45 or so. I'm told there's an epic helm reward that terminates the quest line currently. Trion has said the rest of the quest should be in (but isn't by all accounts on the forum) as of patch 1.1. As Ironbars mentioned, that quest requires you to go into a raid on Greenscale's Blight and finish the entire raid for a chance to roll on the quest item that will, in theory, give you the weapon that is currently BiS (Best in Slot) once the quest is fixed.
