Install the live client from the FAQ page.
Don't launch client. Also choose option for all users. Easier to find the folder in "Program Files"
Then cut/move or copy over the beta/alpha "assets" folder to live game folder.
You will update from beta only 5.91GB worth or from Alpha 3.9GB worth. Save you some time there.
I am doing the "Full" download. It's 8.32 GB. At 1.4 MB/S it takes about 1 hour. I would attempt your approach if it would save me many hours but not to save a few minutes.
Correct but the update server is going to get flooded when others try tomorrow. I went from 1.5MB/s down to 600KBs. So for me it will save hours :P
Thanks for the tip Mikey, however the file servers all crankin steady. Very impressive actually. I am steady crankin @ 2.1MB/s myself might as well have clean untainted files :P.I hopeit does help those with less throughput available.
Yeah they are having some network glitch though. I just got a network timeout error in client. Few others as well seen it. When I restarted I got 2.5MB and slowly went down till 1.5MB/s stable again.
Heh, I love being right by the servers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. 2.07MB/s download. Takes about an hour for the full client.
Down to 125KB/s now still no timeout again crossing fingers this finishes tonight.
I'm downloading at 1.3 MB/s the full 8ish gigs. They prepared the servers well for being swamped.
I'm glad I didn't do it yesterday like the rest of you. I'm getting 3.30MB/s. I got to hand it to them, they got big pipes. I never seem to have my bandwidth fully utilized.
I'm downloading at about 180 kb/s. It's slow going but we have two PCs updating and slower-than-molasses DSL.
Apparently I have slower-than-slower-than-molasses DSL. :-) I'm about 60 miles from the servers, and I'm currently getting about 80k/s. I'm wondering which would be more likely to speed it up: using bigger tin cans or trying different string. Ran all night, and still says I have 11-12 hours to go. And that's WITH copying the assets folder over to get it down to a 5.9g download.
Yep. Was easy-peasy. Thanks for the info, but I didn't need to. Whole 8+G was done in like 35min. I remember the DSL days when it took me hours and I feel the pain of those going through that, and express my deepest sympathy. It sucks. :-(
mine was 1.75 Mb/s so right around 45 minutes I think, plus I had no Alpha resources to poach from.
