Leveling Questions

So in Rift it feasible to level solely on PVE/Rifts/Dungeons and then transfer into PVP/Warfronts later on or would you be gimped in some way? A temporary gimping I'm not afraid of but if there's some side effect that would put me at a disadvantage long term then I'd probably roll two chars.

Alpha guys, I know it's been said that there is PVE gear and PVP gear and that individually they aren't the "best" for their opposing situation but have you noticed this to be true?

How easy is it to switch between a PVE soul build and a PVP sole build? I see a lot of posts on the official forums of people talking about switching souls to suit the play style you are currently in but to be honest I haven't gotten that far in Beta yet.

Thanks!

Based on my observations, you should be perfectly fine if you level via quests, then do pvp later. There seems to be very little difference between the the pvp gear you get from favor and the gear you get from dungeons. Even if there was, the amount of favor you get for doing warfronts/pvp scales with level so favor gained at max level will quickly overtake favor gained from pvping earlier. Switching between builds is as easy as pushing a button! At end game you have 4 roles. Each role can be a completely different soul build. Each role even has its own set of action bars associated with it. Switching roles is a 2-3 second cast with no cool down. The only restriction is that you can't do it in combat. Rift seems to me to be designed to let you play how you want, and even change how you play depending on your whim. I think thats where a lot of the appeal comes from.

I figure it might be worthwhile to mention that you don't just "get" those 4 roles, even at end game. You have to pay for each additional role at your trainer (at least you do in beta). The second slot is only a few gold, the third is around 2p, the fourth is supposed to be something like 24p. Ability bars are set to each role, so switching isn't such a pain in the butt once you get your new role set up. I'm not sure about gear (whether each role also switches out gear or anything like that - would be nice but I doubt it)

The gear does not switch and the 4th role cost 21p 95g, so it is expensive. But money is not that hard to come by in this game and by the time you will have a need for a 4th soul you probably have enough to buy it. One thing with soul switching is that you have to be out of combat.

While its true that your gear doesn't automaticly switch when you switch roles, it would be quite easy to set up a macro that switches you from say PvP gear with a 2 hander to PvE gear with 1H+Shield.

Regarding money and roles, this seems quite easy to achieve. During Beta I had enough value to purchase role no. 4 somewhere around level 30, without hardcore trading or mindless grinding. PvP/PvE? Don't burn your soul thinking about the best way, dude. Just get going, you can't go seriously wrong, apart from trying to see Rift as an Ego shooter, which would be some kind of epic failure. Havr fun, not headache.
