I've heard the same thing, that at the beginning English might seem easy since they are both from the Indo-European family, but that you'll never be able to master it. I don't have the numbers at hand but someone said you have three times more words, that's impressive!
A uniform language for a whole country came up with the rise of the national state and the introduction of a public school system. It's the same here in Germany, someone from the north wouldn't understand the local dialect form someone from the south.
Yes, it's sad you didn't have the chance to grow up bi-lingual, it does make learning new languages easier and it is part of your identity.
I know what you mean about kids these days! :D
If it gives you any comfort, they might kill the language for good, but it does raise the literacy rate, so hurray for terribad youtube comments!
(Ever noticed how curse words or bad spelling/grammar don't seem to be so offensive in a foreign language?)
I lol'd at the idea of a loot drop... ... ... no, dead English doesn't seem to drop anything. :'(
@Bentmer Well, it took me quite some time, I was really bad at school. But the Internet provides so many chances to read, write and speak I finally got it! Still have many mistakes to make, but it's a nice skill to have. :)
(They totally dropped the "riftspawns said rude things about your mom" line form the German translation, I'm so disappointed!)
