Was checking out the different classes in Rift thinking about what class I was going to be. I myself am leaning toward the rogue/blade dancer. Was wondering what everyone else was leaning towards.

The Class system in that game is funky weird, but I think I understand it:
At the beginning of the game you get to pick your calling, Warrior/Mage/Cleric/Rogue.
At Level 15 you do a quest to get a soul for your calling, which would be:
Warrior / Mage / Cleric / Rogue
Champion / Elementalist / Pureifier / Nightblade
Reaver / Warlock / Sentinel / Ranger
Paladin / Pyromancer / Inquisitor / Assassin
At level 30 and level 45 you get another quest for another soul (2 for 30, and 2 for 45) for your calling, which the only one officially released is the Blade Dancer(for 30). But on the wiki the names are revealed for the rest:
Archon
Bard
Beastmaster
Dominator
Druid
Justicar
Marksman
Paragon
Riftblade
Riftstalker
Saboteur
Shaman
Void Knight
Warden
Warlord
The Catch is that some of them are faction locked, and some are not. The Warlock for example seems to be Defiance only, while the Paladin is Guardians only.
I'm personally shooting for Bard, I always go for the music classes, very rare in MMOs, that one April Fools Class blizzard had for wow that one time made me very depressed when I figured out it was a joke...Still havn't got my beta key for rift in the e-mail yet.

I just read up on the whole game and I'm kinda confused with how it all works. So when you get to choose a new soul at the higher levels, do you still stay with your basic class archetype? Or can you say 'multiclass' and pick a totally different archetype?
I'm not sure, I think you get to pick, 1 of 3 at level 15, then 1 of 2 at lvl 30, then 1 of 2 at lvl 45, but you get a choice and how you go up the skill trees is completely up to you. But I know you can only have 3 active souls at a time.
Must stay within your original Archetype...ie warrior cant grab a mage soul. At least thats how I understand it and have seen it explained.
Warrior/Reaver toon 1 Ranger/Assasin toon 2 Thats for me i might play with the magic user not for sure.
Ranger/Assasin. Could I be anything else? I might try a mage combo.
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING -- This game has many character and class options. The possibilities are endless. Those that suffer from Alt-itus are encouraged to play this game but be warned, you might fill up your character slots with 1 day of purchase and playing.
I have alt-itus and haven't decided for sure what I am going play first. Most likely a tank of some sort or maybe a mage. I dont know yet to many to choose from. AAAAGGGGHH So Many options, so many options. :)

Paladin Inquisitor
I'm going to be trying the rogue in some capacity. I always loved rogues and its been a while since I found a game that really does the rogue class nicely. (I have one in RoM that I'm having fun with tho ;) )
Depending on what the play is like I'd like to go for something like a quisinart rogue.

Is there an option to respec? What happens if you get to lvl 45 and decide you made a mistake at lvl 30? Because if there is not then I'd probably play a vanilla as char as possible first just so I couldn't screw it up by speccing some crazy useless spec. ;)
After a bit of research into Rifts and their class system... I'm still not much the wiser. In general, I usually favour a Ranger/Scout-type character, so I'm guessing I'd be looking into a Rogue who eventually branches off into more of a ranged damage dealer.
Is this a PVP game?
It says that you can have only 3 active souls at a time, so I assume you can change souls around, which would qualify as respecing. PVP hasn't been revealed yet, read the FAQ.
Funny, i didnt see a FAQ and you didnt link it so calm down, but thanks for answering my question
I think I kind of get it, but I won't be sure until I try it. From the reading I have done it seemed like each soul unlocked a tree you could fill out, and you could swap souls at times to change what trees you could fill out. Either way, I will be going with some kind of healer at first... I prefer getting to know games with a healer type.
Anyone happens to have a beta key laying around?
game looks hawt... i'll be there, either tank or heal, but crowd control. well for my first toon anyways. i'll fill this boat with alts, but im gonna try to reign in the ADD a lil.

The FAQ for the game is listed on it's homepage under the menu item "The Game". What I mean by respeccing is to change the choice of the 3 souls you get. I understand the part about where you can have 3 souls at max level to choose from. It probably is alot easier functionally than it seems to me right now theoretically I'm sure. It just seems like you get a lot of choices and I hope that you get a chance to rethink those decisions later when you get a better understanding of the game. Then again, I guess that's what Beta is for. :)
I think on one of the videos I watched they said you can save up to 4 specs. It makes it easier to do that instead ofrespeccing all the time. I will probably be playing a heal like I always start out with but might take a look into some other possabilities. I know with the class system the are using they are trying to go for each person to be unique and hope that people don't follow a certain spec that works best. I am hopeful that this is the case and they are able to pull it off.
Cleric and ultimately Justicar for me. What can I say, I like supporting my friends. :)
