Defensive siege

Here is what I posted on the enjin forums about defensive siege. Just to let everyone know, defensive siege is key to win matchup by far. A small party of 5 members can push off a massive force of 20+ from a tower or keep if you have the defensive siege at the right place to defend the gates. We must utilize that during our events to have a defense set up while we are attacking so even if we take stuff, we don't lose some in the back. We are good at taking but less effective at keeping stuff. Side effect of defensive siege: Must have someone inside all the time to scout/man the siege but the most awesome part in defensive siege, mental disapoint, make them fight very hard for everything will tear their moral down and will make them most likely leave.

Alright so this thread is only about defensive siege. Gathering information about siege placement for people to compile it in a video to make it simpler. So far I wrote down what I remember in the borderlands, sorry for my lack of knowledge in Eternal Battlegrounds.

Borderlands

Supply Camps

Towers

Catapult behind gates are always a must since those knocks the ram driver down if they are standing too close but also damaging rams on the gate. Balistas behind the gates are really good too when you just can't defend the door but you can push a whole zerg back with 2-3 balistas inside with 2-3 arrow carts all aiming at the gate choke point can destroy a whole zerg since there is no one that get live to that and having abilties that prevent invaders to get in like the guardian #5 on staff that draw a line on the floor that knocks players back.

North West Towers

A catapult can Be built on top of the lord room where the vista is, putting it on the side of garrison hidden by the dome will make it shoot over it and defend the North wall and the gate from bad guys. Weak to AOE from under the bridge and also easy to take with a balista from the South side. A balista instead of a catapult can be really good too but you need to put it on the top to be able to shoot on any sides. An arrow cart at top of the North stairs can be out of range of AOE and can hit the gate or bad guys at North wall.

North Est Towers

A catapult placed on top of the cliff and placed a little back (in middle of the cliff to be hidden from balistas) can hit the gate and the ram driver even if he is out of range of the cata behind the gate. Balista in the same spot but closer to the edge facing the gate is really good too since it can kill balista out in the open. (Need confirmation on this) A cata on the ramp and maybe the one behind the gate too can hit bad guys cata at bottom of the cliff and possibly the cata on the West wall by shooting over it.

Briar Towers

Treb on the supply depot prevents cata and treb siege at the main gate. Arrow cart in the back at top of the stairs prevent cata siege from the back wall.

Lake Towers

Arrow carts in lord room are deadly and untouchable. Not sure if it is an exploit or not but you can place arrow carts in the lord room by standing on the ramp and shooting your arrow cart in the lord room.

Keeps

A lot like towers, good specific spots though.

Garrison Keeps

(Need confirmation on this) You can build a treb on the vista that can kill any cata they build in the back at the north inner. Cata might be able to do it also. Treb can probly hit both the West inner but also the North West and North Est outer gate and act like a cata but be much more efficient since it would be able to shoot over the gate to hit cata in the back.

You can build arrow carts just outside of the inner water gate over the outer water gate that can shoot down at the outer and be out of range of AOE and balista if placed properly. A catapult placed on the South Est gate can hit the outer water gate too aswell as any siege place on the cliff infront of the water gate. Having cata behind the South inner is a must and if they are doing a massive siege, make sure to build a couple ballistas behind the gate aswell as a bunch of arrow carts arround. You can also put arrow carts to defend the gate at the top very far in the back and still have vision on the gate. Those are hard to see but if they are noticed, those can be easily get detroyed by putting AOE on the wood platform under it.

Bay Keeps

At the North West outer gate you can put cata and balista on the high cliff that can hit most of their siege out in the open and the cata can even hit the rams at lowest power if placed at the right spot. (Need confirmation on that) That cata can hit the North Est outer gate too. (Need confirmation on the range around the shore) A treb on the inner supply depot can hit the South outer gate and siege on the shore around the water.

Hills Keeps

(Need confirmation on this) A treb on the inner bridge can hit the North inner gate, the North and the South outer gate and cata on the West wall that are not really close to the wall. A ballista on the high cliff at the South outer gate can hit cata in the back. You can also build cata and arrow carts on the Est ramp of the South gate that will reach bad guys outside. You can also hide an arrow cart behind the ramp on a small piece of the cliff and it can hit cata and rams (Need confirmation).

A must, when a strong force is hitting the West inner, Build 2-3 ballista and a catapult inside the lord room at the door and also arrow carts at the top around the lord room. The arrow carts can hit the doorway and prevent bad guys from coming in and the balistas with the cata can shoot the bad guys coming on the bridge so having the rest of your force on the bridge is very good since the siege hit those guys and it acts like a choke.

Eternal Battleground

Supply Camps

Same as borderlands with good specific spots too.

Towers

Borderlands tactics works here too aswell as some good specific spots.

Keeps

A lot like towers, good specific spots though.

Stonemist

Don't know much about it, expand it please.

First video about siege placements, this one is about supply camps, there is not much in it, it was more a video to get me used to my video editing tool and encoding... next ones will be out faster and will contain a lot more info about WvW. This video is private I just want to keep it low profile for SOR only NO SPIES ALLOWED. Feel free to share it with other SOR website. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulWw5Otaf1A

I made it unlisted because it seems like people could not see it.

Wonderful work, K. I find I spend a lot of time in the backfield, keeping up the home defenses. My favorite is actually the mortar, though those are permanent installations by upgrade. I wonder if those could be added to your list? Note on Woodhaven (NorthWest Tower): Dome siege needs an arrow cart or two to protect them - the enemy can crowd up against the north wall below it and shoot up through the oculus. Fortunately arrow carts can shoot down through it as well. I've lost a few trebs without realizing where they were hitting it from.
