Struggling with a final class choice.

My end game goal is going to be pretty much constant WvWvW. I am not much for pve content.

I have one of every class except necro and mezmer.

Thus far my ranger is my highest level char, but I am really unsure if I want her to be my main.

I like versatility paired with either high survivability or high damage in my play style. However, as much as I enjoy my melee chars, I am concerned that they will have minimal, to no role in wvw. The only time you need dedicated melee is in an organized charge I am concerned that if I go guardian or warrior that I will not bring much value to a siege.

I do like the elementalists, but I don't feel like they have the versatility I like in my damage classes.

I like the ranger, but the action with her gets dull and repetative.

I enjoy my thief, but fear that as both melee, AND squishy char, that I will have even less of an impact on a siege than my counterparts.

I enjoy my engineer, he actually has some diversity, but his damage is super low, and survivability questionable

I have not played my warrior and guardian enough to fully know how much I like the two classes, but I have the same concerns about their ability to melee.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any reading that may help me make a final decision on where I should focus?

I've found that my engineer lacks a bit too damage wise, but enjoy the variety he brings to the table. To be honest I have heard from several people that the engineer is one of the weakest classes, so I figure it's better to play the class that may get some 'love' instead of the class that is on the highway to nerf.

From experience I know Arenanet re-balance classes without warning and without patch notes, so bear that in mind.

From what I could see so far, what the Engineer lacks in damage he makes up for with versatility and control. I'd say it's a fair trade. He also has good survivability when traited. Yesterday I took my Engineer to the WvWvW event and I did ok - keep in mind I was a level 15 when I joined, and most of my gear was in the 11-14 range. I even managed to win quite a few 1-on-1 battles here and there, which actually surprised me somehow.

This last week has been confusing for me too! I went in thinking I was going to play a thief, got it all the way to level 17 on Saturday to find that while the movement skills were cool combat felt VERY monotonous. With very little weapon combinations (that don't feel all that unique) I felt I was doing the same thing over and over and over. Enter character two: Elementalist. I got her to level 17 on Sunday before dropping it as well. While I enjoyed the class (a lot more combinations with the atunements) I wasn't sold on the caster nature. Constantly circle kiting my target made me dizzy. I'm much more of a melee mindset... Enter Character three: Guardian. Now this is the only class I have stuck with for longer than 1 day which shows me something. He's at level 29 now after 2 days. Feeling a bit more confident about it (especially after the WvW last night). But...... I'm still not 100% sold. Absolutely loving guild wars 2 but I think I have a problem. I can't find the class that I really LOVE. Just a bunch I kinda like.

my $0.02 from what I've seen so far: As noted, in WvW you cannot go wrong with a class that has strong ranged capabilities....especially AOE. Also, control is important so you can catch and kill as many enemy as possible and make them trek back to the battlefront. Lastly, speed is really, really important b/c it makes it easy to choose your engagements. I, for instance, have a warrior. He is okay in WvW, especially when he can drop his special longbow AOE on a group. In the meantime, the 900 range on his weapon makes it tough to hit enemies from the wall. If he switches to Rifle, he has a tough time making a dent on a horde b/c it is single target. He is useful in melee as long as the fights don't get above 6v6 or so but these fights almost always start ranged too and there is usually a point in them where your opponent gets separation and you'll need to switch to ranged. I don't know all the classes yet, but my estimation is if you can find a 1200 range spammable AOE (if it exists), you'll do well in WvW during sieges both offensive and defensively. You'll also do fine (or mostly fine) during the small scale encounters too.

Play Mesmer for a little while. It's completely different from anything I've ever played. Lots of versatility depending on the weapons and you can go several different directions depending on the trait build. Great Sword has two ranged AoEs (weird right?) on short cooldowns with 1200 range. Combine that with a Staff for lots of control and more AoE. I've also had fun lately doing Sword/Sword with a Staff switch, or Sword/Pistol (1200 range AoE) with a Staff switch.

I think Engineer is a decent-to-solid class for WvW. They have plenty of versatility, but there is a damage trade-off for that. The grenade kit has a spammable, 1200 range AoE attack, plus 4 other 1200 range AoE's. Y ou can trait for extra grenades plus extra range as well. Plus fire and (somewhat) forget turrets. I'm running an engineer as my main and I'm loving it so far. It should be noted that I have not jumped into WvW yet - I missed Tuesday's event. I plan to play WvW heavily after he's 30 and has all of his skills. I do also enjoy the fact that there are fewer engineers than other classes and I agree they will likely be buffed a little in the future.

The one night I have had in WvW, I liked how solid my warrior seemed with some points in toughness. I was able to survive in AoE for a bit that killed others and actually got to melee down a few low armor enemy with my axe and warhorn. I also liked killshot with a full adrenaline bar. Spot an enemy trying to escape at low health and hit them with a cripple and then killshot seemed pretty effective at finishing them off. May have to try out the extended range talent for the longbow, see how that works to contribute some ranged AoE. But instead of doing my normal method of leveling many alts in round robin, I decided to stick with one character to 80. I feel warrior is a well rounded choice for WvW, group PVE and solo.

I've been enjoying tossing grenades with the Engineer. They make a very good deterrent when attacking a keep, keeping people off of the walls.

Cross-posting this from the "Engineer guide" post elsewhere in the forum: ---------- Here's a great build for a scout in WvWvW (just skills/traits, no sigils/runes): Engineer Scout Swiftness 100% of the time (just change kits every 6 seconds or so while running), lots of defensive choices (regeneration when using kits, many options in control to cripple/immobilize/knockdown pursuers, a burst of DOUBLE speed for 5 seconds every 40 seconds or so) more than adequate AoE damage with the flamethrower, and great support (condition removal, healing) with the elixir gun. Really, I can't think of a better scout build for any other class. Anyone?
