ArenaNet announcement:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/updates-to-world-vs-world-skirmishing-and-rewards/

Some Q and A from the official forum from Game Designer McKenna Berdrow:  https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/wuv/New-WvW-blog-post-June-1-2017/first

Q: My question is whether a player has to be online, and on a WvW map, to get awarded these winning pips?

A: You earn pips every tick, so every 5 minutes. You do have to be online, in WvW to earn the pips.

Q: Does all of this only apply to The Mist War, or does it apply to Edge of the Mists also?

A: Skirmishes are only part of The Mist War and not part of EoTM. Because of that pips cannot be earned while in EoTM. However, vendors for both the backpack and skirmish rewards will be in EoTM in case of queues.

Q: If someone transferred (servers) today (June 1), when would they be eligible to start earning rewards when the new system goes live?

    I have no idea what you are talking about with tiers of armor. Can someone explain (even take a guess) about the details of what that’s about?

A: You would not be eligible to earn pips until the 9th if you transferred today.

    The Armor Tiers are:
    Tier 1 – Triumphant armor
    Tier 2 – Triumphant Hero’s armor
    Tier 3 – Mistforged Triumphant Hero’s armor

   Weapons:
   Tier 1: Hero’s weapons
   Tier 2: Mistforged Hero’s weapons

Q: A lot of players have unlocked all the T1 skins and salvaged them to save on inventory space. Will there be a collection added for this (or tracking of skins unlocked), or will we be forced to re-complete 18 reward tracks?

A: It checks if you have the skin. So if you already have the T1 skin then you can buy the T2.

Hmmm, not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I'm sure the hardcore premades that exist only to farm bodies will be over the moon at this announcement.

Personally, I prefer minimising rewards for fights in WvW, while instead focusing rewards into the taking and defending the objectives. Fights shouldn't need rewards - the satisfaction of PWNing your foe, and the strategic advantage of being free to move on to the next objective while your foe has to regroup and run back should be more than enough reward (not to mention the dramatic effects on morale for both sides with every victory/defeat).

I worry what impact these rewards will have over player behavior in WvW. When you have nothing to lose, it makes players much more open to diving into any fight they come across, regardless of the odds. With rewards added, I worry players may start doing everything in their power to avoid every uncertain fight, for fear of handing over legendary items to their foes. Commanders may find themselves under ridiculously extreme pressure to perform, as every loss becomes a blow to the reward track of their followers. Followers may find themselves excluded from squads and even told to avoid running with them for fear their defeats may rally the enemy players and hamper the squads kill/death ratio.

WvW should be fun. We should be encouraged to jump into impossible fights with slim chances of success, defend objectives against impossible odds, even perform willing sacrifices for the greater cause. I'd hate to lose that.

The Wiki has information on the new skirmishing rewards:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_Commander_War_Razor#vendor1

Players will purchase the WvW backpieces from this merchant.

Exotic and ascended armor can be purchased from this vendor:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skirmish_Supervisor

Dulfy's website has pictures of the backpieces and the tier 3 armor:

http://dulfy.net/2017/06/06/gw2-wvw-tier-3-armor-and-backpieces/

Skirmishing claim tickets are earned as follows:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Skirmish_Claim_Ticket

The skirmishing reward track resets weekly so a maximum of 175 tickets can be earned each week.

McKenna Berdrow, Anet Game Designer on the loyalty bonus for pips:

You need to earn at least 75 pips for 3 weeks in a row to earn the loyalty bonus. We wanted players to have to participate in skirmishes to be considered loyal.

Question by forum user:

Hello, I’m not quite clear on this.

So you need to get
75+ pips on week 1
75+ pips on week 2
75+ pips on week 3

And then so long as you remain on the server, you will get the loyalty bonus?

Or will the streak reset if you miss a week, and you need to do all 3 again?

Berdrow's response:

Needing to earn 100+ pips weeks 1, 2 and 3 is correct. If you miss a week you will need to do all 3 again.

*Edit: It should be 100 pips not 75. So you need to complete all of Wood Tier for 3 weeks.

If any guild members are planning to get the Legendary backpiece, a player calculated the minimum length of time required to obtain the precursor and posted his findings on the official GW2 forum:

Data is taken from here;
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Warbringer

Assuming that the data is accurate and that the WvW Skirmish ticket is the longest to obtain (due to the cap of maximum tickets earned), how long will it take for a new WvW player before you can craft the WvW Legendary Backpack? (This is assuming you already have Gift Of Fortune and you just need the precursor before you can have your SHINIES)

So in total, for the precursor alone, you would need;
- 350 + 525 + 700 + 875 (still need to be verified according to site) WvW Skirmish tickets.
For the Essence Of Annihilation, you would need;
- 350 WvW Skirmish tickets.
So in total, you would need 2,800 tickets.

Total WvW Skirmish tickets you can get per week;
Wood 10, Bronze 15, Silver 20, Gold 25, Platinum 30, Mithril 35, Diamond 40
Making that a total of 175 tickets.

Assuming you play every week farming those pips up ‘till end chest Diamond regardless of your WvW Rank and world’s performance, you’d need about 16 weeks! Which is 4 months in total!
