Always Check Your Town Clothes tab before Deleting Character

As the subject said... lol

I deleted about $10 worth of Wintersday Gem Store items by accident, because I forgot they were on a character that I was deleting and rerolling.  Apparently, ArenaNet does not have any type of system in place to replace or restore deleted items, especially those that you buy from the Gem Store.

I get that they don't want to replace NPC loot... but not Gem Store items?  Really?  Especially since Town Clothes are only obtained via Gem Store?

So right now, I'm trying to request a Gems refund, of which I expect I'll get denied, as well.

So... my lesson here is: DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR TOWN CLOTHES!!  Or you will be out some cool items and real money.

How many games will restore deleted characters or inventory? Other then for hacked account restoration, and generally that involved a rollback of sorts. The last one I remember doing so on simple request had a fee attached.

Most of them will, Llyren. I've been playing these games, well commercial games, since Everquest released in 1999, I have well over 50 under my belt. Its not an unusual, or unreasonable request, you just have to know how to talk to Customer Support and how far you can push the issue. Sometimes they'll assist, sometimes they won't, but overall, I have good success. This point of this post isn't to complain about ArenaNet's lack of cooperation, this post is intended to help make folks aware that they need to NOT make the same mistake that I did, and be sure to check their Town Clothing panel before they delete a character. Its easily forgotten and overlooked. That said, this issue has been successfully resolved.

I actually don't get why they should replace gem store item and not NPC loot, if anything they should be on equal footing :s I forgot to check my alt once and lost two 18 slot bags, that's like 4g, still worth some gems Q____Q

I lost my pirate outfit this way, sucks.

Gem store purchases have a purchase "paper trail", loot drops usually do not, it depends on the game, I don't know if Anet logs loot drops or not, don't really care. I feel that ArenaNet made a mistake in allowing Gold to be converted to Gems, I think its adversely affected a lot of their decisions about "nerfs" in the game, but that's not a topic I'm really interested in going into more detail about, atm.
