I`ve been running this build for the last 12 lvls and went ahead and filled it out for how it will look at 80 .   For the last 12 lvls it`s been pretty OP   kinda silly how easy it is to take out 3 or 4 even lvl mobs .

This buils really becomes viable starting at lvl  30 , and  works best  at 40 +

With this build you are not shattering the illusions , and if one dies you can just doge to make a new one or use a skill etc to remake it .

I normaly open with pistol 4 to drop illusion, then hit with pistol 5 for blind and follow with sword 3 , that ports you to the mob , roots him creates a illusion , then follow with sword 2 .

Riight  after sword 2 swap to staff and hit staff 2 m this teleports you away out of melee and creates a clone ,  soon as this happens hit staff 5 , followed by staff 3 .

then what you do it up to you , you can stay in staff , or swap to sword if you want to burst the mob  or just want to evade and not kill your illusions .  however normaly after  this point what you are fighting is dead or very close .   can also use focus as it works ok with that also , if you are in say wvw for swiftness .

anyway here`s the build  its set up for soloing but you can change elite or swap out mirior for something else like null field, or portal or  veil etc .

I ran something along those lines for a while. I run a weird (for most people) spec now at 80 using staff and greatsword. Most important for me is the clone on dodge and extra bounce with weapon. GS and staff are not the best synergy I suppose, since GS likes power and staff likes condition damage. It works for me though. I usually run solo and while I can still take on 3 or 4 mobs in Orr, I do not like them touching my measly 16.3k HP. They have more nasty abilities than mobs in lower zones. It takes a while to kill them and I am bouncing all over the place to stay at range, switching targets a lot, hitting keys like mad, but I am slippery. I usually start out attacking one mob, but of course my antics and clones gather a few more during the process since Orr has lots of mobs. Which is fine since I am there to kill them. The staff and GS also give me some AoE to damage mobs and get loot in events. I pop a chaos storm and Warlock and swap to GS and cast a Beserker. I shatter when the CD's are up to recast. I run 6 superior centaur runes for the swiftness on heal. That gives me at least 10 second of swiftness (you can get up to 13 with right traits) every 15 seconds. Good for when it is time to run the high density of NPC's gauntlet instead of fight. I just could never get used to melee with my Mesmer, prefer a guardian or warrior for that. My Warrior sits at 69 even though the Mesmer is a lot more key mashing/weapon swapping work for the same damage. For some reason it is so much more fun for me.

Sword/pistol & staff Mesmer builds are very solid to be sure. And people should definitely use the weapon setups they like to use, because lots of Mesmer weapons are good. So I don't really have anything to say about those choices. So I'll throw out a couple of thoughts on the build and your utility skills: Deceptive Evasion: Though I have the this trait (dodge creates a clone) I find more and more that I hate how it works in practice. The reason? When you dodge, the created clone attacks whatever it's closest to. So if you're in Frostgorge Sound and fighting, say, a Grawl and you dodge, your clone will pick the nearby Dolyak, or even a Rabbit, and start whacking away at it. This drives me crazy. I can't count the number of times I've been fighting a difficult creature and all of a sudden someone's biting my backside! I'm seriously thinking of ditching this trait. You've got Sword 3, Pistol 4, Staff 2 and 3, Mirror Images, AND Decoy, AND Deceptive Evasion. That's a lot of clones you're generating. So it looks like you should be able to generate tons of clones/phantasms. However, it doesn't seem you're using any abilities that benefit you from having clones out, like Compounding Power in Illusions (3% more damage from each illusion), or Illusionary Defense in the Chaos line (3% less damage to you from each illusion). Since you can generate clones like crazy, and since they don't give you any benefit by existing. It seems to me that you *should* be shattering as much as possible. My typical plan regarding clones is to make a couple of clones and shatter them immediately (since clones don't do a ton of damage, Staff #2 excepted, and only because they apply conditions). Then I try to make phantasms for more sustained damage in longer fights (if it's a short fight, I typically make some of whatever and then blow them up pretty fast). I also think that at higher levels having Null Field equipped is pretty important, especially in dungeons and/or WvW. Being able to remove conditions is pretty important. And as an Asura, I often use Radiation Field just to have an additional AOE, since that can often be important for tagging mobs and/or hitting a bunch at once (since our only other real AOE is Chaos Storm). I've found that if I have Deceptive Evasion and my normal clone generating abilities, I don't need any utility skills to generate more clones, because I can usually generate them faster than the mob blows them up. You have 2 Glamour traits, but your only Glamour ability is Feedback. It doesn't seem worth it to me to devote 2 traits to only one ability (not to mention that all sorts of elite mobs SHOOT THROUGH THE FEEDBACK BUBBLE.... don't get me started). I mean, Feedback is useful, yeah, and I have it equipped much of the time, but I think you could use different traits. I'm not a fan of Mirror Images since I rarely need to summon 2 clones at once. However, I do like Decoy and I use it now and then, but another utility skill that I find invaluable is Blink. Though it's not listed in the build editor above, Blink is a stun break, so if you get knocked down or immobilized (which starts to happen more and more the higher you go) you can Blink out of it. You can Blink out of red circles, away from overhead smashes, behind mobs running at you, blink further away from danger, you can use it in all sorts of situations. My "go to" utility setup is Blink - Feedback/Radiation Field - Null Field - Time Warp. I think these offer many benefits and they can be used in many situations.

QUOTE: "So if you're in Frostgorge Sound and fighting, say, a Grawl and you dodge, your clone will pick the nearby Dolyak, or even a Rabbit, and start whacking away at it." That is too funny, and true. I just look around now before I start a fight and count any mobs within 1000 range, because I will probably be fighting all of them at once before it is done. Fortunatly, we are almost unkillable fighting regular mobs unless we get careless (or unlucky). And we can most always get away in the open world if things go bad. I found I used an extra condition removal more than Mirror Images, although I do like Decoy for those "oh crap" moments. I do change utilities around depending on if grouped or solo. But I do not play min/max....just for casual fun.

actualy i don`t need to shatter a clone etc unless i need to add distortation or confusion the all phantasms have fury and 15 % damage increase as well as all illusions have 15 % damage increase i do fine leaving them up . as far as my ultilty and not having anything in glamor loaded i stated this is what i was running for lvling purpose however at 80 my set up will mostly have feedback, nullfield and portal, as well as time warp up which are all glamor . as i said , curtain is good as well . i even stated that the ulitily ablities were not set if you re read my post i even state swapping nullfield etc by all means utility are meant to be swapped out same as traits depending on what is needed . thanks for your response but what i have posted and what i`ll be running in my ultilty are not the same , i figured people would connect the dots seeing i went so deep in glamor hehe . ohwell guess not .

In my opinion having lots of abilities tied to generating clones and never shattering them is not taking advantage of your innate Mesmer abilities. IMHO, it's pretty easy to generate 3 clones and shred them, and then generate your phantasms. Even if you have all the phantasm buffing abilities (and I have them too) you get more damage out of shredding them than by letting them fight the whole fight (because the attack speed of all the phantasms is generally slow). Of course it all depends on the specifics of the fight. As for your discussion of utility skills, my feeling was since you posted a build you were interested in some discussion on the topic. There's many ways to play Mesmer. Have fun with your build!

The only problem I've found with shredding, is that if you are ranged, the clones are never near enough to the NPC to cause any damage or effect if you shred them. In WvW, they're always spread all over the place, I just use them to confuse and confound the enemy about who they need to kill.

Most annoying thing that bugs me when i play mesmer, a lot of phantasm traits bugs each other out, if i get them fury they lose retaliation, regeneration one bugs others too; now most of these only bug others out in terms of no buff refresh, but fury totally canceling out retaliation was annoying And a lot of awesome effects on illusion death won't happen if its shattered, really makes you not want to shatter anything, if i just let them die naturally i can cripple, confuse and weaken or bleed or cause vulnerability ALL at the same time very pricey to shatter in my opinion :s i only shatter if i reallllly have to
