Well I'm almost 80 and I've played around with different builds and so far I've found that the best defense seems to be a great offense.  I was wondering if anyone has come up with any good defensive builds I might try.  I just don't see much in the traits for it.  Maybe if you could get some protection to go with our ability to dish out weakness...   dunno.

So far I like dual swords the best.  I've found the condition damage with a little kiting to work pretty smooth and I don't really have much +condition at the moment.  Bleeds are hitting for 70ish.    I'm actually considering working in the trait to allow rally when you use vengeance for boss fights because I find  that when I get up I can typically finish something off.  Wondering if anyone has tried that as well.

Wondering what the other warriors are trying/liking...

Thanks

My Bleed Warrior Build As far as Defense build goes, there doesn't seem to be a popular "tank" build, more like support. Rifle = Banners or Shouts seems to be really popular.

Ya I thought about coming all out of strength too but I was hestitant on losing the condition duration since that and the trait is about all I'm gonna get. I took the trait that extends stances 25% and took endure pain to pop it with frenzy. Still tweaking. Thanks for the input.

I'd imagine if you wanted to do defense you'd stack vitality and toughness as stats. Only problem with that is you'd take a huge hit on your offensive ability. I'd be interested to try it out when I hit 80 though just to see the survivability difference. Currently, I'm only 27. Anet said there really wasn't "tanking" or "healing" from the traditional perspective so it makes you question those defensive builds effectiveness as a whole. The banners do seem to be popular. I'd prefer tanking myself. So far I really don't have a favorite as far as weapons go. Using a greatsword right now, but I basically just use whatever new masterwork ends up in my inventory. That will change once I hit 80 as I do plan on using a shield.

Only level 49. Have went between sword/board and greatsword. Recently switched from rifle to longbow with extended range trait, want to do a little AoE in WvW. I tend to stack toughness, usually have more of that and vitality than power, and have 15 points in defense trait line. I take the passive healing trait, and increased damage and healing per adrenaline level. It works pretty good for solo PVE, for me. Takes a little longer to kill, but I seldom die. I did have at least two funny incidence in WvW the other night when I was using my bow. Had an enemy guard or warrior single me out and leap to me, probably thinking I was a ranger. When I swapped to sword and board and they were not moving my HP bar they tried to run but had followed me too far, family members killed them. Warrior class is great fun with a good combo of melee and ranged abilities.

Unless you plan on going into a survivability/support role you should stay away from the vitality line. It mostly focuses on improving support skills and your ability to revive allies. The toughness tree on the other hand is very good if your looking for survivability. The VII trait that 'should' allow 100% chance to rally on a kill while vengenced is broken at the moment. When it is fixed it could increase your overall survivability quite a bit agaist zergs or large mob situations. However, pre-downed survivability is probably a better option. If you want to be more of a tank, survivability/aggro, you will need dps to hold aggro since there are no taunts and from my experience dps always pulls aggro which is something Anet needs to work on. The power tree has some nice options as it improves upon and encourages you to use the dodge/roll mechanic as well as improving damage.

I have never not been rezed by that trait so far MrB, maybe its broken in pvp (havent tried it in there) but i have been using it for awhile and have to say if anything it is OP especially while farming in pve. I can pretty much live indefinately with that. I have just switched to a longbow build but cant work out what weapons to use with it, currently it is longbow + dual axes but thats mostly because I already had 2 decent axes.

Here is my current dual axe/longbow build I am building torwards. http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fIIQNAnXTngOk8YUQWPwEZgw84HD5/qCzJ94MoJNA;TsAA1CooyyklILbWuskZtKYUwUEA basics: respectable toughness, great vitality, superior damage. My shouts heal, and remove conditions, my heal also removes conditions. I will pretty much have a might buff up at ALL times. I have the range and power to be a great asset in ranged aoe combat in wvw, and I have the melee power to destroy enemies when our forces get to more of a clashing phase. I have a very healthy HP pool. Generally, this build is really a force to be reckoned with.

^^ Corpus, that is exactly what I was planning on aiming for - except I dropped "On my Mark" for "Signet of Might" and using the 'Healing Signet' instead of 'Mending'. I want to stack Power and Crit Chance with Signet of Might, Signet of Rage, and For Great Justice. But this is more of an aggressive build than a defensive build. - so off topic :( and a LONG ways away for me. :( See build here

I ended up stacking toughness/+condition damage using runes of undead and sigil of corruption for pve (dual swords). Bleeds are ticking for 143 w/might and rage. If they ever come out with "rabid" jewelry I hope to get my bleed ticks 150+. Very strong in PVE and it melds with my WvWvW spec perfectly. Swords has an invaluable short cooldown leap on the main hand and allows you to stack bleeds really fast with the offhand (8 right away and one of those abilities has good range) Very happy with it atm. The only downside with it in pve is the big boss fights when you notice max bleeds stacks but I'm typically in rifle mode for those anyways and I'm usually the guy having to kite the boss in 5 mans.

I like Hammer/ Rifle. Rifle for ranged and hammer for the CC. I find it effective in wvw and pve. I am always tempted to try a sword/ longbow condition build.

Bleeds at 143! Wow that is great! I only tick at the 90-110 range. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the screen full of bouncing numbers though! haha! Lately Ive been running with Rampagers gear set, and stacking Precision/Condition/Power (in that order). I just bought the Rampagers Blunderbuss and its fun with Sigil of Fire. My current build is this Though I cant afford all the runes and jewels yet. With the gear, runes, and jewels I should be around 2300 precision, and 70% crit chance. Ad 20% when you have Fury (e.i "Opportunist" or Signet of Rage) and another 9% when at full adrenaline and you have a 99% crit chance!! In small group battles Ive been using the rifle as primary and switching to sword/warhorn in close combat. Rifle at lvl80 is AWESOME. Yesterday in WvW I had the stars align and Kill Shot critted on a squishy for 10300 - that was satisfying. Im sure you could get that number higher if you stacked Crit Damage instead of Condition Damage. I cant comment on PVE though, as I havent really done any PVE. Cant stand it.

Hey Sprong we were pretty much doing the same thing build wise but I recently decided I was using my rifle way more than my sword so I went all damage pretty much and switch out the rifle trait in Arms. I'm gonna try and work that longbow range trait in there too but not 100% sure its necessary yet. And I'm like you, pretty much hate pve. hehe

@ Stormn Hmm, good idea with switching out Furious for Crackshot. Might not build adrenaline as quickly, but then again, having rifle skills recharge 20% faster would probably make up for that! Also, shots pierce, so if three guys stand in a row, I will hit them all. Good idea. I will test it out tonight. As far as the longbow goes, you can always switch in Stronger Bowstrings (Tactics:4) while out of combat... its what I do when I switch to Longbow, which really isnt all that often. I like to keep Leg Specialist (tactics:1) because it syncs with Opportunist (Arms:9) to grant fury whenever I cripple someone (Rifle button 2). Just an extra way to keep fury up while in long battles. Last night I finally acquired enough gold to buy six Superior Runes of Lyssa. +165 Precision and elite skills remove all conditions and give all buffs. I had 66% crit chance unbuffed. +29% with full adrenaline and fury and I was sitting at 95% crit chance. Hit a new record crit at 11700, just wish I had a Damage Done data log to prove it. EDIT: happy borthday BTW

I run full berserk gear with greatsword alone. To be honest im a monster both in pve and wvw. My hundred blades deals 22-26k dmg in pve so ya... i just tear things aparts. In wvw tonight i was able to 2 shot lowbies with just autoattacks and I obliterated anything that i got a bulls charge and hundred blades on. Over all I'd say the build does insane amounts of damage and can easily take down 3-5 people at a time.. But it is also rather squishy. In return for having insane damage, your pretty much made out of glass. although i can claim that in every 1v1-2 situation i came out victorious.

yup thats exactly why i love GS on a warrior. you have tons of mobility and utility. I wont go around and say its the strongest/best build out there.. because I don't believe it is myself :) I just know that the build is one of the strongest in the ideal behind. that ideal being to have high damage and huge burst dmg.

I'm curious what I can do to pull off a relatively survivable condition build in PvE. I have more fun doing a condition or support role.. I've tried the direct damage, and the signet GS build.. but those just aren't fun for me. I was thinking, Double Swords/Gun, and going Toughness/Condition Damage/??? (Vitality? Precision?) But, I figured I'd ask here to see what you folks thought.

Thats what some of us are/were doing. I got my bleeds ticking for 149ish using sigil of corruption. I always did performed pretty solid with it. The only problem with it is when you get in a situation where you have 25 bleeds stacked on a mob but for me that doesn't happen much.

I have been trying out yet another build, and so far it has been a lot of fun. Its and Axe/Mace : Axe/Warhorn build . its focus is to lock down a target and make them super vulnerable to attacks. Im using Knights armor for WvW small groups, and the 42k Karma Heavy Aurora set for zergs. I find with small groups its better to have more burst capablity, and knights has a good balance of precision and toughness. I have berserker gear also, but cant survive nearly as long with it, although you can create some intense damage while wearing it! With this build you'll get Two knock downs, One cipple, Two skills that cause vulnerability, Two stun removals, and Three condition removals. For jewelry I am using berserker to make up for the lack of Crit Damage in armor and traits. My FAVORITE trait of this build is "Spiked Armor". It saves me from those perma-invisible backstabbing thieves. Sure they can still critically hit for 6000+ on the first attack, but the next five seconds of attacks are retaliated straight back at them! Since perma stealth thieves have been my biggest pet peeve in the game so far, I figured I'd make a build to try and counter them. How I've been playing this build is by Bullrush in, Fenzy, Crushing blow for vulnerability, Cyclone for more vulnerability, Chop x3, Eviscerate (key is to get this in before the vulnerability wears off), Tremor to knock down again if they start to escape, if tremor misses then Throw Axe which immobilizes and cripples. If possible its best to save bullrush for knockdown/escape during a battle - but often its necessary to use it to get into melee range. If things start to get hairy then switch over to warhorn and cleanse conditions. I cant give up the warhorn... the perma-swiftness is addicting. If anything Ill switch out the mace for a Shield, but the warhorn has gotta stay. I often switch out the elite skills between Banner and Rage, just depending on the situation and who I am playing with.

I'm currently working on a high power but relatively low burst high survival lock-down machine build with perma- swiftness, fury and 5+ stacks of might. Also if the retaliation from spiked armor is affected by boon duration it will be 8 second on 15 second cooldown so basically 50% up time. It also uses the empowered trait to its finest, as it provides 1.5% damage per boon and I should have at minimum 3 and as many as 7 boons at a time. For +4.5% to +10.5% damage. The goal is to be able to run into any enemy zerg and lock-down and get to half health as many enemies as possible and unless they focus fire me, run right back out or stay put as our swarm blows them away. Its main weapon will be Hammer, in the off hand I'm considering either Sword/Shield or Sword/Warhorn. Warhorn would provide vigor boon up time and stack-ably infinite swiftness and more weakness up keep on the enemies. I need to get the last 10 levels on my Warrior before I can try it out, but I plan to go with Power/Vit/Tough gear to maximize my power when breaking zergs and maybe knights when in a small group. That is what I am currently seeing. Though the Hammer sigil is still under consideration because I want to see what his crit chance looks like when geared and buffed. If it breaks 30% in full Pow/Tou/Vit I will use an on crit sigil. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNBiYDbE0J2t6RGiJSggeUFchAaK0DqC2RShYUGA;TABA1ytEaJ1StlSLquMeJ8ymjrLZOLRGFshYKC Against zergs, control can completely change the tide as most zerg builds carry either o stun break or a single long cooldown stun break because people think with so many of us, I'm not going to get stunned and I could take this and add the extra 2% damage. This build has 4 forms of AoE control (and the falling damage AoE control) and 2 other forms of single target knockdowns and the Hammer trait makes it do +25% to disabled enemies and is an powerful AoE weapon.
