I just got into beta, having a lot of fun on a little archer who is only lvl 5 so far with three instant cast skills. I never played any FF games before so have no prior experience with the combat style and have some questions about movement and targeting.

On my archer strafing around in circles is fun with instant cast skills, but then I noticed I can fire a shot off when I have my back to the mob too, is this intended? For example if I start combat then turn my back to run away and fire next skill she will momentarily turn to face the mob but if am still moving she instantly turns her back again and the shot still fires and hits while I have my back to the enemy. It isn't a tactic I plan to use because they seem to be on pretty short leashes, but I was surprised to see the shot still fire.

Also, I've noticed that cycling through targets with tab makes some ... interesting choices, anyone tried using the filters?

Finally, how much should I be moving around in this game? I am so used to circle strafing and dodging, should I still strafe in this game? Do you move to avoid hits on casters with long cast times? I saw a lot of people in the starter areas standing still between each skill and wondered why, is it part of this 'turn based combat' that I have seen mentioned, (I have no experience of that type of game so all very new to me atm)  is there a reason to move and does it avoid hits?  What about in melee? How much do you move around on you character, and what works well for you? Tips appreciated, sorry for being such a noob lol

Do you move to avoid hits on casters with long cast times? yes, absolutely! if you see the thing your fighting pauses and a cast bar shows up...move to the side quickly and often you can avoid whatever it was doing.

On lancer and pugilist, you'll be moving constantly in a group to get the positional damage bonuses. Gladiator and Marauder you will really only move to avoid damage when it can be avoided or to pick up or pull mobs to you. Combat is not nearly as active as Guild Wars 2, but some damage can be avoided entirely by watching what your fighting.

Well that's good to know, I was just wondering because I saw people stand still in combat and just getting hit, but I expect that is because it was in the very beginning area where things are so easy to kill and do very little damage.
