Opinions--New character on Legacy server

I played 1.0. I did not play long however. The very tight non-open feeling of the landscape did not appeal to me. I am very much liking 2.0. This is my quandary...

Although I have a legacy character, it is only about level 15. I did not bother with transferring the character due to me not liking the way it looked. I later found out you could redo the looks of a 1.0 toon once, but now the transfer option is over (isn't it?)

I want to roll with our group of friends, however I also want the new server, everyone on the same content feeling. I want people running the low level dungeons and content.

How does everyone think this scenario will play out when the game is launched? (ill have early access of course, assuming no character wipe)

AFAIK its over for a couple of the servers due to room, but not for Excalibur that I saw.  Its up to you, I'm not sure what (or if any at all) bonuses a legacy character gets over a newly created ARR character.

Not worried about any bonuses, I am really talking about what experience I would have rolling a new toon on an old server, even transferring my old toon, I would still be very low level.

i think, with the way the game is geared to funnel people to dungeons, you have a better shot at doing the low level content than with some other games. also, if i remember right, the duty finder is supposed to be cross-server...so with the influx of players at launch, you shouldnt have much trouble.

Since my wife is planning to play her old 1.0 char, I plan on at least moving my old 1.0 char to the same server. I'm not exactly thrilled personally to start playing on a server where the market is controlled by level 50's on day 1. But I will do it so I can play with my wife.

That being said, I will probably also have a character on a *new* server as well that I can just take my time with.

Since it was allowed last beta weekend, I rolled a new toon on a legacy server. I had no problems getting dungeons and there were plenty of higher level toons running the lower content( and being leveled down so as not to crush everything). I had fun!.

I've decided to roll on Excalibur with everyone else. I just hope the zones are not ghost towns. Hopefully with leveling other classes it wont be.

Excaliber is one of the two most populated NA/EU servers. but, I'm not sure how many people are actually playing as opposed to people who just have characters that aren't playing being leftover from 1.0.

In any case, wandering around excaliber showed populated low level areas.

A few things I noticed whilst logging on to my old legacy toon:

* her gear has no stats, so i will need to run stuff to get gear

*I will need to do the story quest line from level 1 to get entrance to the dungeons, chocobo, grand company etc

*my gil has been reduced by 90%, so I have just enough to go halves with Gibsauce and pay for our free complany registration, after that I will have 10,000 gil left. (To put that in perspective, I made 5000 gil in my first day on a new toon).

*the main benefit to me will be that I have a ton of crafting mats, some of which will be sold off cheap as everyone else will be offloading their low level mats, and of course I have CNJ to 32 which gives me an advantage level wise.

I think the zones will be really busy, as we chose a high population server for longevity once the "shiny" wears off for some players.  If not you can use the new duty finder for guildhests, dungeons and quests.  We have around 40 people playing with us, so I am sure there will be guildies to do stuff with too.

If the market is important to you, then do not trick yourself into playing on a legacy server.  Every max level toon with tons of mats will have a years worth of advantage over you.

If running dungeons and doing zone quests is your thing, then play on which ever server your friends play on.  You will be running content with them anyways and there will be enough initial new people to fill it out. 

The end game will be based on your time to play and what you prefer to play.  If you have enough time, you can "catch up" to the legacy players.  If not then you will be behind initially but given enough time (6 months to a year?) you will catch up...depending on content release.
