so, after the beta closed on sunday morning...i just havent felt motivated to do much. i had so much fun this weekend (since i understand the game a little better now)...and i just wasnt ready to say good bye! ...anyone else feeling such withdrawal? it's going to be a long week till friday!
I was very very impressed. I knew it had a lot of positive buzz but I just didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. So, yeah I'm chomping at the bit to get back into the game and even more excited for launch. In the mean time though I've got my research statistics class and Dark Souls to keep me occupied. So I get to spend my time engaging in a monsterously grueling excercise in smashing your face against a wall until either you or the wall falls over. Then I get home from stats class and play Dark Souls lol.
Yes a bit, I spent most of the first day playing a class I just really didn't enjoy and then switched to another that didn't fit my playstyle....tried a 3rd that I was really enjoying but ran out of time by then so now i'm really curious to see if that was the class for me.
Btw why is it a long week till Friday? Last I read they didn't announce the next Phase 3 beta weekend yet....or did I miss that?

Dear goddess do I ever have withdrawl...for nearly 3 weeks now every sunday at 4:50 I get depressed!! knowing I have another week until i'll get back in! But it makes the time I get to log in all the more sweet as I see the loading screen and hear that epic harp, then log in to a buzzing community busily running about.
The piece that still has me absolutely baffled is the fact that zone chat isnt a platform for people to complain, I dont hear trolls trolling and everyone so far seems to be extremely nice and helpful! But the game is sort of catered to people who work together, as much solo play as there is, a large portion is grouping and playing with friends so those who choose to be inappropriate or cruel dont tend to last long around the FFXIV realm.
Again, I with a large number of others are also on leviathan, and also some others who started eariler than phase 3 are on diabolos! Make sure to hook up with us and come hang out!
@Conner. yeah. there's a fair amount of trolling on Malboro, where i'm at. but it's not as bad as it could be for sure! all day sunday, i was just "waaaaah i want to play!" /tantrum i really wasnt expecting the game to be -this- good! it's just been so pleasant the whole way. all the complainers on the forums i just ignore, because they are just whining for the sake of whining!
@Abusabus. they havent "officially" announced the next weekend yet, but like Connor said, they will probably later this week. however, they have kind of a master schedule posted on the forums that shows they intend to have a beta weekend almost every weeken till open beta (i think), assuming there are no major issues.
i just had to get my feelings out there, because i've been trying to keep myself busy at work, but the mind keeps straying into Eorzea haha... /sadpanda

Me! And I have to go away next weekend to see family. So I can't play :(
I will have to make up for it in phase 4!

LOL I spent most of my time making character templates, got a couple leveled up to 5ish, then realized... maybe I don't need several characters for this game, just one will do. Turns out, I was right and now I have to choose which character template I want to use. o.O I also tried catching up on a lot of DVR this weekend, too, getting a huge back log of shows to watch.
Generally, I don't put a lot of time into Betas, especially not weekend Betas. All of my time and work will get erased, I'm actually just evaluating the game (if they want bugs, they can put me in the Alpha), but most of all, I don't want to spoil a lot of the early game for Release. I like that keeping that new game smell for when playing counts. :)
i've mostly been evaluating as well. especially after the v1.0 crash and burn... i've been skipping a lot of the actual story and just evaluating gameplay and such. i've just been having so much fun! i want to go back and play for reals! <3

If you finish Dark Souls, you might enjoy Dragon's Dogma as well!
As for feeling FFXIV:ARR withdrawals...ya, heaps!

Glad to hear the game is that good. I remember feeling that way about GW2 beta and it does stink. Why are all the games I want to play not released yet? Starting to think my expectations are just way to high. I need to stop buying into hype-trains and start taking more time to enjoy the games I am able to play.
Oh I wasn't on the hype train for either GW2 or FXIV 1.0! My husband hyped the crap out of guild wars 2 and I refused to even look at it till beta. It took me a while to get used to and I had to quit wow for 8 months to fully appreciate it, but now it is a favorite of mine.
I was truly heartbroken after the FFXIV1.0 crash and burn (i really wanted to like that game!) and I swore to never buy into hype again! (Just to clarify here. I didn't play ffxiv till open beta and I knew it sucked, but I foolishly trusted SE when they said the game was going to be stellar at release)
tl:dr I'm addicted to ffxiv despite myself and I can't help it! Hence is started the addicts anonymous thread, so we can all share our misery together!

As soon as the FFXIV beta ends each week... thats pretty much the end of my online gaming til the bext beta starts.... Is that bad? ;P
The only thing I want to play is FFXIV and end up just being bored by every other game out there (Even GW2 and Neverwinter is boring to me right now) Been struggling to even find ways to pass time til the next beta starts :D
Yeah Saren, I figured I would use my time wisely to get ahead on everything non-game related. That way when phase 4 starts I can spend more time playing something I actually like, rather than wasting time on things I only kinda like.
As you have pointed out, other games just do not cut it once you have been able to play FFXIV!
can't have withdrawals on a game ya never played but i'm so eager to actually play the game now with all the upcoming changes they made that I think I have some withdrawal symptoms.
hee hee, Saren, that's been my problem exactly! sunday, i was so bored, i didnt even realize the day was passing without me! i think i took a long nap...which i needed anyway, so that was partially constructive. and it's funny, because i dont think that FFXIV is the best game ever (mechanics-wise, i actually like gw2 better), but it just uses its magic to consume the mind! it is final fantasy, after all. as long as it doesnt play like crap (a la v1.0), i will love it regardless~. hopefully, they will let me out of work early today, so i can go play! /pray

Story and cut-scenes are still awesome, maybe even better. I almost hate to spoil it for myself, but I'm trying to evaluate the combat system a bit before we start playing for keeps.

I played as much as I was able. I didn't get a chance to do much with the melee classes, wound up spending most of my time on the Thaumaturge, was trying to figure out its combat design and lost track of time.
I was able to make it to 21 as a Conj and complete the main story quest as far as it goes. I was able to get all my other classes leveled to 15 via the auto leveling NPC's that they included for the beta. I did not however get to test drive any of them. I would like to try out Thaumaturge, Gladiator, and Pugilist. I have also not been able to try the trade professions much. It does seem important to level them as you need a certain level of proficiency to be able to slot Materia into gear.
I forgot about those NPCs, didn't realize they were active this Beta phase. Where are they located? I don't recall running across them, but last Beta I was in a different starter place than I am now.
I think Phase 4 is next, which means it wont matter and the NPC's wont work, but maybe there is another week of Phase 3. (Some evidence indicates at least one more Phase 3 week, the Duty Finder (LFG tool) has not been implemented yet, and that is a Phase 3 addition)
You must have completed the main story quest to the point where you have fought Ifrit and joined a Grand Company. You basically follow the main story quest until it ends. then you can visit these NPC's to get your other classes auto leveled to 15.

Aniud in Hawthorne Hut(East Shroud) above the town for Lancer
Chechezan in Horizon Camp(Western Thanalan) for Gladiator

Urswyrst in Moraby Drydocks(Lower Noscea) outside gate near Chocobo Porter for Marauder
Adelard at the South Hammer(Western Thanalan)(20,27) for Pugilist
Remember, you must talk to these NPC's as the class you would like to have leveled. That means you need to have the appropriate weapon equipped.

I finally go into the phase 3 weekend 3 beta and i am soooooo excited. I had the original release and it was a huge let down. SE has really stepped it up and started listening to the players. Play FFXIV takes me back to the years I spend playing my first ever mmo FFXI. Ah the memories!

ahh....thanks to working for the military and it being a holiday~ i have the 5th off~ i can enjoy the next beta test in all its glory now! at least for the weekend. hopefully it will be longer than that! i get so morose after it ends!

Last beta weekend I think we had like 3 people max on to chat and hang out, Would love to talk and plan and get a general idea on what everyone is planning for purpose of setting the playing field on release.

I did somewhat, the miqo'te is by a deviant artist, everything else is me (backround, effects, 3D objects, my character and server name "Calico" "Excalibur" on the sleves etc). If you'd like a sig, im taking requests, there is a sig forum post where you can read what I need to make one!
