In the beginning.

As with all new things the wait in anticipation has got to be the hardest part. As we wait for every new scrap and piece of information that slowly trickles forth the mind races with thoughts and fears of the unknown. Will Ashes of creation be just another money grab like star citizen with promises of grandure and very slow and delayed content development? Perhaps it will be the save all of games of old dwarfing Wow and Eso in its wake. Only the future will reveal its secrets. In the mean time I will wait in anticipation like a small child trying to sleep on the eve of a birthday or holiday with dreams of grandure and fears of dissapointment. I would like to hear others thoughts on what they hope this new game brings to them.

Waiting with antici...pation.

No game experience has felt as exciting as it did in those early years.  I had previously resigned myself a few years ago to the notion that gaming will never be "what it once was" for me.  I had given it some thought and made this personal assessment:   

• PC mmo gaming was "new" to me - and that in and of itself made it special; 
• Gaming choices were few, we all had far less expectations of technology - and that in and of itself made it special; 
• I was young (or younger! haha) and could stay up playing or raiding until 3am and still be at work by 8am, all while having fellow guildies call or text me throughout the day to discuss raid happenings from the previous night or a new tactic for the next night - and that in and of itself made it special. 

I've attempted a few times to recapture the glory but I haven't remotely felt nestled in anywhere (until recently, that is).  :-)

For Ashes, I can't help this feeling of optimism.  To hear the developers say words that I have long felt, about wanting something new, different, improved rather than recycled, rehashed, relabeled.  I would HATE to say I've been sold by marketing, but dang it! These early Ashes videos pulled me right the heck in, lol!  Of course, in hearing the overwhelming response to the kick-starter campaign, I couldn't help but take notice of how many people were excited and willing enough to put money on it; so much so that it had me getting my wallet out, too.   Then when we attended the very, very long guild meet-and-greet event on Twitch, it was amazing to see and hear how many others are eager and excited to join in this new endeavor.  I've also had a few game friends from back-in-the-day reach out, talking about it and sharing their thoughts that Ashes may usher them back in to the gaming world.  Wow... Er, I mean not "WoW" but you know, wow...

Could it all be a bunch of hooey?  Sure.  But any game I've ever played could have been a bunch of hooey - and some were, some weren't.  The ones that weren't, ended up being magical and helped create memories to last the rest of my life.  If there is even a slim possibility of experiencing something new and fresh, plus the added benefit of doing so with Gaiscioch, then I can't help but feel giddy too, just as you, ready to unwrap a new toy. :-)

I love the sound of it and the ideas. Unfortunately I've turned in a bit of a pessimist when if comes to new games. I have been promised and burnt too many times to get my hopes up that the next announced game will be THE holy grail of gaming. Damn I'd settle for simply devs delivering what they are claiming.

As soon. As someone tells me about new games and "look at the new shinies!!" My first response is either "when is the release date?" Or "tell me when it releases". I save my little heart the looking endlessly at the promises and getting hyped up just to be (very likely) let down.

That being said I'll try nearly any game that cones out (if I have the cash to do so :p )

I really really really hope they deliver what they promise but refuse to get emotionally invested in it before its actually out and I have played it myself. So until then I wilk forget about this game and let it sink into the mists of memory :)
