We Are Sparta! (a Little Movie Reference)

By: Rev

So a group of GSCH decide to help SoR on the wvw reset last night. We wanted to make sure our own Border Lands was well claimed before we went out to harass the other servers. While we were getting things squared away . . . a call went out: "Massive attack on our garrison, please come to help!" When we arrived, there was a huge zerg of Borlis Pass storming through the gates. We were probably outnumbered at least 3-1.

I fell rather quickly in the first skirmish. Our Keep Lord had fallen and it was just a matter of time before the garrison was lost. As I was making my way back to the battle, I was surprised that the structure had not already fallen. Somehow, a group of SoR was still contesting the building just enough to keep it from flipping.

Because it was our garrison, we were able to reinforce our troops more quickly and do some repairs to our walls and gates. The enemy seemed to have two different zergs that kept shifting floors and attacking from different sides. Our keep Lord fell at least 10 times, but he kept returning to the battle before all was lost.

Now I am not a hardcore WvW player, but this was by far the longest battle I have ever participated in. The battle for our garrison must have lasted more than 45 minutes and maybe even more than an hour. Our leaders, especially our GSCH warriors, simply refused to quit. I had to be res'd 3 more times during the battle, and there was even some chat about surrender among some of the discouraged.

Slowly the Borlis Pass scoundrels began to melt. We could see final victory. With Borlis Pass throwing a huge attack against our garrison, and Crystal Desert attacking other targets in our lands, it looked as if SoR would start in a huge hole. With mighty perseverance and brave teamwork, SoR would not quit or surrender. We finally celebrated a long, hard fought victory, and began to move to regain our map. I know that during the night we may lose all that we had fought for, but it was inspiring to see our server outlast impossible odds and draw a line that could not be passed.

Our server may not have the highest participation numbers, but last night we showed both our opponents that we sure have heart. Some night, around the campfire, the story will be told of the huge army that was unexpectedly driven back by a server that was outnumbered, surrounded by siege, and on the brink of defeat. It may have been the best couple hours I ever spent on wvw. Thanks to the many GSCH who made the heroic effort to defy the odds and outlast a bully.
