This is the one I am waiting for... I was a PS fan for a very long time. My son and grandsons talked me into the 360 since that is what they all game on and after using both side by side for over a year I have to admit I like the Xbox world better. I have far less issues with it. The XboxOne looks amazing. I will be getting one. ... and I will 2nd the ... OMG!!! I can't wait to walk into the room and say "TV on" :)

Games are not backwards compatible. Every game will have DRM (connected to the internet 24/7) and games are linked to your account...which means no secondary market ala Gamestop, Game Fly, or just trading games for a weekend among friends. I will be passing on this console

I'm excited about their approach considering how the gaming market has changed drastically in the last 5 years. And I really want to own this... but... they did not mention in the video (and I can't seem to find an answer on their site) if they have cable DVR support. Yes I love how they integrated everything on one screen, but can I still record my shows and watch them. And what about on demand features from my cable? I rarely watch live TV these days. I found a site that wrote a very negative and skeptical review and advised it can not support these features. But I would really like something official from Microsoft advising on this. Anyone find the answer to this?

It's definitely a solid piece of hardware, always nice to see what the next-gen consoles bring out. The feature set looks like Microsoft is taking more steps to being a complete entertainment appliance, handling TV, movies, games, and communication (Skype) which is good. While it looks pretty good, I'm still a little disappointed that the industry is going away from printed media and storing it in the cloud. While great in theory and convenience factor, its just giving me more reason to believe that nowadays when I buy a game, I don't own the software, but rather leasing it.

@IngnisTemper I agree to some degree, however, having researched the industry concerning pirated software with relations to profit loss, I cant blame them. Mind you the honest buyer's aren't the offender, but ultimately they will also feel the pain of the new rule sets that attempt to fix the problem. I honestly don't mind it, I know I'm a lot better off than a lot of people so the price point doesn't bug me, but I know a lot of people will be hurting because of it and that part is definitely unfortunate! But having friends in the industry, and learning that cuts and layoffs and whatnot occur due to loss profits that are contributed to by pirating is upsetting in the least. There are a few books on companies that were innovative in the market and had a bright future..release there first title, and have 45+ % of copies online pirated, it prevents the company from getting the funding they need to continue development and they close the doors on the shop because of it. The cloud bring's accessibility anywhere, no local saving so space can be properly allocated for what you want etc etc.. I guess in short, its becoming more of a necessary evil...

As a rule contending to my history with consoles, a console must have at least 5 games I REALLY want to play in order for me to buy it. I have not bought a console since the Gamecube with this rule. Consoles used to be just a bridge to great games, now it's not about the games, its just about the money. I'll probably buy a X-Box One controller for my PC, but I'm not paying for inferior hardware that can't run games half as good as my PC can. The only benefit to the X-Box One is that it will further hinder developers from pushing boundaries on the capabilities of technology further increasing my PCs lifespan for years. And that is depressing.

http://www.zdnet.com/inside-the-xbox-one-7000015754/ Two interesting facts gaming-related to come out about the Xbox One is that first of all it won't be backward-compatible with any current Xbox 360 titles, which means that gamer's investment in the old hardware hits a brick wall, and the revelation that running 'used' games will incur a 'fee,' details of which have not been revealed. So in one swoop, Microsoft is cutting off at the knees the old game titles, and simultaneously putting a choke point on the second-hand games market. I don't have to wait for E3 to bad mouth anything thank you very much. If you use a game acquired in the third party market (gamestop or gamefly) you have to pay them a fee to play it, that's besides the fee your paying just to be able to turn it on and connect to anything (xbox live fee). These WILL hurt sales of the console, not to mention the price of the console alone will hurt the sales of the console. Merely nerfing how I use Gamefly alone is enough for me to either not upgrade to XBox one or to goto a PlayStation.

This guy works for XBox live: http://majornelson.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-and-used-games/ Xbox One and Used Games We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail. Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios. Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

Agreed. People either hate or love MS X Box. I for one like the profits that MS gets. It helps for healthy games. The pirating of games needs to be handled and I play Diablo 3. I get the frustration of having to be online to play a solo campaign. But...I want these companies to have nice profits so they can develope games worth buying. In a way it is like leasing a game rather than owning it. I luckily have good internet and this aspect of having to be on their server to play the game is ok for me. But I can see how those who don't have good internet are not going to get near the same value from an XBox. As MS releases more information it will become more clear and is still soon to make a decision. I am a fan of both Sony and MS gaming consoles but having owned both I enjoy Xbox better. Its just the way I play and the games I play. XBox live has pushed the boundaries with online gaming and thats how I play most the time.

I see one of two things--a lot more money going down the tubes with a 'used copy' fee, and a lot of accounts getting hacked as friends share accounts. That being said, I enjoy my 360 very much. I'm betting they'll come out with a backwards-compatible version down the line or sell it as an add-on. After all the red rings of death with 360 and the high price point, though, I'm going to wait for the first rush to go buy, then get it when the bugs are worked out and the price drops.

Thats how I will do it as well JaeOnasi. I will wait about a year after release, hopefully by that time some titles worth buying will be out. Also I want to play it before I buy it. Sony is also an option for me. I will wait and see wich console and support, along with price, wins after about a year of batteling for consumers. Who knows...I may just skip the console war and just by a gaming computer that I can upgrade and play for years to come vs a non upgradable console.

Information on the new patent that Microsoft has applied for... The things I am most unexcited about the new MS system are: 1) Kinect required. (My body just won't do what they want me to) 2) Internet required once every 24 hours to call home or your system is a brick. Unable to even use single player offline games. 3) Internet required games will be left to developers choice. ie they can all turn Sims and Diablo if they choose to. 4) MS intends to take a chuck out of *all* resold games from its system and *choose* which places will be allowed to resell, which will in turn raise the prices at places like gamestop and invalidate game rentals everywhere since you must purchase a game not registered to your gamertag at full price. 5) Friends are not allowed to borrow your games since you have to log into your ID to play them or be charged full price to activate. 6) Tiles... I stopped using my current 3 xbox because of it. 7) Continued requirements to pay MS on top of paying other people to use simple apps.. say Netflix for example, among many other apps that just aren't worth paying for. 8) An everything system? I just want to play games and not interested in it taking over my TV or movies/music or whatever. I use my systems to play games. Nothing more, nothing less.

Saren.... everything you stated is true for you and probably for others as well. I could turn all of them into positives for me as well as most of my gaming family (and I mean actual family... son, daughter, and 4 grandchildren) but this is exactly what our world is all about. Differences. Xbox isn't trying to make a console that everyone will love and just have to own but they are hitting a demographic as is a business decision. One thing did stick out at me... you aren't paying MS to use the Netflix app. I have used Netflix for a lot longer than I have owned my Xbox. I pay MS as an Xbox Gold Member for the Xbox apps and to multiplayer with my friends. I know this bothers a lot of people to have to pay a fee but it is negligible when compared to other entertainment options, imo. When my PS3 (which was free to use) went on the fritz and stopped playing Netflix except with stuttering, stopping, reloading, failure to connect errors... I loaded the Netflix app on my Xbox - which was free - no charge. And BTW - the Xbox plays Netflix without any issues. Apps you pay for from other companies that you use on Xbox you would have to pay for regardless of the device you use to load them - Smart TV, PS3, X-box, smart video player or PC. You pay X-box for the server connection just for X-box. You sort of made it sound like you pay for the apps twice. There is always the argument why pay X-box (MS) a fee when you can use the PS (Sony) for free. I can tell you as a PS owner from the very first until now.... you do pay for what you get - this will always be the case. I can still play Netflix on my PS3 and I still have several games that are multiplayer and go through the Sony servers... I would rather do it all on the MS servers with the fee. Far less disconnect issues... far fewer "Server currently unavailable" messages far fewer updates to fix these issues and better picture quality to boot. Again, this is just my opinion... the world keeps spinning regarless of what I think though.

@Soren--I wonder how they're going to handle gamers with handicaps. Kinect is not the friendliest to those of us with bad arthritis, and it would be pretty impossible for quadriplegics without some serious modifications of some kind.

The Kinect system isn't needed for any games not requiring it, but it is required for voice recognition - something that would actually make the Xbox system easier to use for certain people, the camera - which is used for Skype and other video applications as well as hand, face, and body movements. I am pretty sure that someone who isn't using a Kinect system for those types of games won't own those types of games and they may be put out a bit since they have the added expense - which is bundled together. Yes, it is required because of all of the functions it provides - but every function isn't related to the games. Don't expect to use the Kinect for any more games than you use them on now but just the Voice Recognition system (if it works as well as demonstrated). They have no more or less modifications to do to the new system that they had to do with the old system - if they used the controller before they can still use the controller now but with the added benefit of using voice commands to start, stop, change the entertainment systems functions as well as a built in camera to chat live with friends. If you think about it - seems like a better system for certain people who have some restrictions.

Hmm, I watched Totalbiscuits video on the X-box one, he makes a very good point on how Microsoft is trying to compete less with Sony, and more against Apple. Windows 8 reflects this and this reveal reflects that to. He also has a very good argument against used games.

Morigana, you are paying for apps twice technically 3 times if you want to count that you pay your ISP for service to begin with. You can only watch netflix with a gold account (paid), not silver (which is free). Same with every other service such as hulu, crunchyroll, videos you rent, etc. Not only do you pay for your monthly charge to MS, on top you have to actually pay other people to have active services. Another example is music. You have to pay 1) your service provider ISP, 2) Microsoft then finally 3) Your subscription fee. I prefer taking out the middleman on my PS3 and choose to only pay 2 times, not 3 times. I can do everything I want on my PS3 that I would do on my computer. MS just want to cut everyone out of more money (IMO) because they are greedy like that (Also IMO) Though I did work for them before so I have lots more reasons to personally dislike them hehehe I'm not saying everyone will share my same opinion, I just don't have money to shell out more times than necessary. Also I never get disconnects myself on my PS3, its pretty spot on. I used to get disconnects all the time trying to play on xbox when I used to pay for it.

I guess I don't see it that way. I am paying for gold membership regardless of doing anything beside X-box stuff. I use it for the multi player games. I was paying for Netflix before getting an X-box. X-box didn't charge me extra to DL Netflix app - or my Amazon Prime App. I could blame Netfix for not providing me a device to use their streaming service in the same way. My PS3 is just getting buggy on me, but it is old - going on 6 years, I think. It's all good.... we all have our reasons to do what we do. Well - at my age sometimes I do forget those reasons.

I dont like the trend towards you not owning what you buy. Now, if i buy an xbox or PS3 game, I can resell it, burn it, or do whatever I want with it. This new model forces any resell of pre purchased games to be purchased again. Funny non-true examples of this: Buy a house that has been lived in before. Having to pay the original builder a fee to do so. Buy a used car, having to send Ford a check. I understand software developers selling a "one purchase, one license". You cant just distribute it to everyone you know. But with this new model, you don't even own the one license. You are "allowed" to play it an unlimited amount until you sell it to give it away, but then since you don't actually own it, the new owner did not get the license to install it without purchasing it. This massively lowers the value of your games and completely changes what I would be willing to spend on a game since my games no longer have a used market value. Spending $60 on a game, knowing that it has a value even if I no longer want it means I am not really spending $60. Now if you buy a game, it's really $60. Right now, if i buy a PC game or whatever, it has a license, and I can sell that software and the license or product code along with it, allowing the new buyer to install it one time.

Microsoft product + Always On + Built-in-webcam = hackers spying on you. *muahaha* (Sadly, this is very true. Hackers will be able to SEE and HEAR you through your Xbox One). I can imagine there will be Xbox-One webcam websites streaming away sound and video of unsuspecting victims.

When I sell my xbox or playstation games, I only get a very small return anways. Like maybe 10-20% of the original purchase price. The 10-5 dollars I may get back is small patatoes for me. It may be a bigger deal for others though. The not being able to borrow anothers game and play it though is a big deal. As I like to test drive a game before buying it. I can get a good idea on youtube usually...bypassing playing the game to test drive it. If this creates better profits for the game industry I am for it. I really, really want them to get huge returns for their investment in developing games and finishing them off. It will allow for better games. It will allow for start up companies to innovate or old giants to take bigger risks, pushing games to better quality. I am tired of pirates taking the profits from these companies. This is their answer to thieves. If it werent for the thieves they would never gone this direction. I would put more anger towards them than MS answering it with their always on to play the game, making it almost impossible to pirate a game. I am not saying its a step backwards for the consumer, but its an answer to all the miserable people stealing software and product. I'm mad at those people. As far as the subscription to Xbox live Gold membership...I don't mind it. Never had a problem with it. I have never had matchmaking issues with the xbox like I did with the PS3, though overtime I think sony got it right. I don't have problems with Sony either now. It just took them much longer to catch up. MS keeps pushing those boundaries because they have a huge fincial incentive to do so. Just like blizzard with WoW, pushing tons of content all the time at that game. They don't always get it right, but they have the staff to keep creating. I am a firm believer you get what you pay for. Their are exceptions and I don't like to part with my money just to prove a point. I will wait to see if MS puts out a product worth buying. If they do...then I'll grab the next gen console. PS4 is also an option and if it can do everything the Xbox can do at a lower price, non monthly fees, games are just as good etc...I'll get that one. I am not married to either product and am free to change my mind at any point. Look at me getting worked up over this. :) Its kinda fun to talk about consoles to people who care about this stuff. I love my gaming buds.

I'm a loyal Xbox customer. I have 3, yes 3 Xbox 360's. 2 regular and one special edition. I don't like anything about this new model. I agree with everything Saren said plus I don't like the constant surveillance of the Kinect. I never though I'd become a "PC gamer" but I'm being pushed towards that position. I've already bought another gaming PC (desktop this time). I won't be buying this new Xbox or the new PS. I guess PC gaming it is.

Cliff, its not going to create much money for the game industry at all. MS is going to take the extra fee for their resale as a kickback for 'reselling' since MS will be the only one allowed to choose which resellers are allowed to resell the xbox game. All it will end up doing is cause places like gamestop to charge even more money so they can keep their bottom line after MS takes out their fee. MS will get a fee, resellers will get their cut and finally the developer will get the standard share they've been getting for years. In other words the only thing extra is MS taking in more profits. Its kinda like what they are doing to android, really. MS has nothing do with android but made deals with companies by threatening lawsuits so MS makes money from android sales.
