Just a casual curiosity, how many play?
I have the game. I have made attempts to play it. I tried out a "primitive" ARK server (which I assume is one where there are no guns? That's what my assumption anyway). The one I was on apparently had excellerated hunger decay, as I would be at 100% and within like 3 minutes I would be starving. I killed a dodo, cooked the 4 meat, ate all 4 and within a minute was starving again.
I haven't played much of it.

A few friends and I have our own private server (vanilla-ish, no mods, yet), with a lower difficulty offset (which gradually increase), and shorter taming times, basically an 8 hour tame takes 1 hour, and current max wild dino level is 70, as i've said the dino level will increase over time. It is also PVE only, so we spend time helping each other a fair bit. as such the admins generally try to spend some time with the new survivors, making sure they have food, and know how to get more, and providing basic armor/weapons, and teaching them how to tame dinos, as well as offering a few dinos for group use to get gather resources, etc. And to make sure they get to a pre provided shelter their first night, which they can stay until they are leveled enough to set out on their own to build their own base.
on a side note starvation doesn't really set in until after a full day of standing still, but activity makes your hunger increase, so there is that...
It's actually alot of fun for some casual gaming... of course the first few minutes is a little rough, as there are really no starter instructions, but we try to help with that.

I have been playing on a private server for the past couple months, but it was pretty much empty, so I just switched over to a PVE/PVP public Valhalla server. I'm hoping to find a group of people who are active, and would be interested in building a big base, to eventually do some friendly PVP.
IF any one is interested in joining A Private ARK PVE Server, please let me know, and I'll PM you the address and password.
Currently we have about 13 players, broken down into 4-5 tribes, plenty of player slots and space left to build on the island.
We have a few mods installed, but nothing that changes the game dramatically, and we have accelerated taming/breeding speeds.
