Hello! I am running a Pathfinder RPG table-top game for the family, using the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path.

We are using Obsidian Portal to keep track of the game and have a wiki to reference people, places and things relevant to the campaign. You can view the website here: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/cotct-gsch

Follow along with the game as I will be posting Adventure Logs with recaps of the story as it unfolds.

Players, a friendly reminder that we will be starting on Jan. 22nd at 7:30 pm EST.

If you haven't already, post your character in the character's section on Obsidian Portal here: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/cotct-gsch/characters

If you need assistance doing this, contact me.

Cheers,

Nash

Well, yes there is role-playing as well as rolling when combat encounters occur. Right now we have a full group at 7, with 4 players now on the waiting list to jump in so you're more than welcome to join us but you may have to wait a bit to be a full-time player. Our first session like I mentioned above is on the 22nd, and depending on if it goes smoothly with 7 people I may decide to add more to the maximum number of people playing at once. We will have to see how it goes. Combat can always get a little bogged down with more people involved so I'll know more after Tuesday. As far as how everything works, here's a link to the Pathfinder SRD, which is a great resource for the rules of the game: http://www.d20pfsrd.com If you'd like to create a character, send me a PM and I can help get you set up.

It's like table top, but through the computer. I've already done my Tales of a Treehugger in association with Khyote's campaign that started December 30th just so people have an idea what our crazy crew is doing. I'm seriously thinking of making up my own campaign with my own world though using the Pathfinder rules. Of course, this is going to take a few months at least and I might wait until either Khyote's or Nash's campaigns complete for the start of it. I know those are going to take awhile since Khyote already figured his would take all year and maybe a tad more based on the pace we are going at, which doesn't bother any of us. We are having FUN! Of course, the quest I need to first complete by the end of the day on January 27th is finishing up the preparations on a novel to put it into a contest. This should prove interesting. =) Of course, once posted by that date then it goes through a bunch of judgings and if it gets picked each time it moves on. This is also a several month process of waiting and seeing if my novel makes it through each stage.

Yep you can create your own world; Nash and I are both using Golarion, the "official" Pathfinder world for the campaigns we're running. A word of warning about making your own world, you must allow the players access to information about it, remember the characters grew up in the world and have general knowledge of it. GM's (DM's, Storytellers, Referees, etc) make the world and story for the players to interact with. It is not "Me Vs. Them" it is collaboration to make a story and mutual entertainment. When you take the roll as the GM you are all of the extras and secondary characters of the story, the players are the main focus.

I, personally, don't know of any specific guides. Use real life history and other fantasy settings as a guide. Like for the size of settlements, most shouldn't be more than 100-200 people, a big city would have 10,000 to 20,000 people, a truly massive metropolis would have 50,000 to 100,000. Most people would be farmers/serf, the lucky few would be tradesmen, an even luckier fewer still would be merchants, then even luckier the nobles, and finally the royalty. Also adventurers, like the player characters, are exceptional individuals. They may rise or fall in status due to their deeds. Not every farmer has levels in a player class (like fighter, wizard, cleric, or rogue) having levels in a player class means you are a cut above the normal member of society (a level 1 fighter PC is usually far better at fighting than some poor conscripted peasant footman), even the normal nobles. Most societies would be some form of mono-ruler (Monarchy [rule by one for the overall good of the all] or Dictatorship [Rule by one for the loyal few/the one]), or rule by the select few (Aristocracy [rule of the few for the all] or Oligarchy [rule of the few for the few]). Very few areas (if any) would have mass-rule (Polity [rule by the majority for the all] or Democracy [Rule by the majority for the majority]). Magic and divine influence are real in a fantasy world but don't often affect the everyday lives of the majority of the populace. As far as what player characters would know, local laws to where they live, how the weather and surrounding areas are like, etc. think about what you know about your hometown/country (You know your hometown pretty well, you know who the PotUSA is but probably haven't met him).

Yeah, for the world I already have created but need to digitize (the harder part now) is definitely fantasy based with all the races that go with it and a few tweaks to make it my own. As for cities and societies they are based on various real world societies from the Middle Ages through the Rennasaince. (never sure if I spell that word right without a spell checker). I have all sorts of maps and stories from when I created it and used it in an AD&D campaign. But like I said, it needs to be digitized. I need to make all the characters, the maps, the background, city info and everything else available. It's a lot like writing a novel because if you are using any setting you need to know it before you put your characters in it. =) It's a LOT of fun even if a lot of work, too. I also have a sci-fi set up with several prominent worlds fleshed out. ::chuckles:: Then again the first part of this started when I was a teenager nearly 30 years ago! ;)

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Creating a world isn't tough at all, really. The hardest part is getting everything into D&D/Pathfinder compliance. I have been working on my campaign world as well, which is also the world I use for my story writing. Unfortunately, I need to make quite a bit of changes even to the base game in the core books. I left out 2 whole race types (8 whole races) just because I didn't want to figure out D&D write-ups for their racial abilities and such. They will appear as NPCs, though. Adding 4 new elements also doesn't make it easier, but they are essential for my world (think Rift with their elements, only my world existed before the game came out *shakes fist at Trion*). Having an overall idea of the world already is the biggest step. The hardest is putting it into D&D terms. I hope to have my world up and available in the springtime. Would like to sooner, but getting everything onto Obsidian Portal will take a while, plus I need to flesh things out more and get more stuff put into D&D terms.

Yeah for Table Top games digitized and for spouces who allow their husbands a chance to get all RPG'd up in the spare bedroom. You know, cause my kids are going to want to play as well, and seeing as they are 6 and 3, they can't. :( As far as writing books *cough* I have no idea what you are talking about. Thank you spell checker for helping my illiterate hands from looking so uneducated. I've always hated grammar and still to this day love my run on sentences. Does that junction require a semi colon or just a comma. Who knows. Did I even spell comma right...who knows. I meant this little guy ( , ). This sight has no spell checker. My education is exposed in humiliating fashion as I try to use the words I hear in my mind but my fingers can't spell. Argh. We will see if Raidcall helps or henders my cause as I play Varth the Wizard. When I write I have time to form my ideas. On the fly...I am just Joe Smoe, and Varth is much to clever for Joe Smoes lack luster on the fly clever remarks. Looking foward to playing with ya'll, thats right...I just said ya'll; and see you in Raidcall on Tuesday during game time, my user name is [GSCH]Cliff. Was that another run on sentence that used the semi colin improperly? :)

Hello Cliff. As far as the last sentence in your first post goes... Looking forward to playing with ya'll, that's right... I just said ya'll; see you in Raidcall on Tuesday during game time, my user name is [GSCH]Cliff. I just said ya'll, and see you in Raidcall on Tuesday during game time, my user name is [GSCH]Cliff. Was that another run-on sentence that used the semicolon improperly? Additionally, ya'll is the proper contraction of you all. ;) FYI I'm not really a grammar elitist, I just spent six years getting my Bachelor's in Anthropology with a minor in Philosophy. I've written a lot (and I mean a lot) of papers, and it finally just sunk in. Personally I think the modern English language is chaotic evil. It rolls other languages in dark alleys and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

Nicely done Khyote. I shall ever be a lower Intelligence score than you. Grammar will plague me for life. I use my Sister who majored in English Lit to help me edit my book in progress. Seriously, I hate grammar and think your description of it being chaotic evil is a little more accurate. Plus when I try to be clever I find out after reading my own posts I just sound desperate sometimes to be seen as clever. A flaw for sure. But I try to make up for it with sheer amounts of words. :) What does sheer mean anyways, and did I even use it in context? Better look that word up. :)

Thank you Nash for the our first game. We were many and so were they. :) The Army of 1 shall go forth and vanquish our enemies with our roll of 1's, proudly displayed for all to see. I do kind of feel bad for Varth who is guilt stricken for killing the sleeping enemy with his cross bow. He should have tied him up, poor dead kid. I hope Varth recovers from the initial shock of battle, and look at other options available besides death to those who stand in his way.

Yeah Nash I had an AWESOME time. I will admit using a Virtual Table Top is a lot more fun then I expected. All of what I loved about playing D&D in my youth has re-surfaced in a great way. Not being bound by the constraints of finding a group within your hometown is refreshing. I now look forward to both Sunday & Tuesday nights. All Hail The Army of 1! *salute*

For having 5 encounters going at the same time, and 11 PCs to boot, it went by fairly quickly. Though being used to 1 encounter at a time, and 7 people, it seemed to drag a little. But taking into account running into 5 encounters at a single time, it wasn't bad. Of course, 11 PCs (or was it 12 PCs?) taking on 2 encounters would have probably gone at a nice pace, or a bit quickly. And I agree with Engwar. Being able to play without being restricted to those in your town (or complete lack of people who would play) is definitely a wonderful thing. Probably the best use of the internet there is. At least, for me.

It was 11 PCs and one Eidolon. Unfortunately, Ckemikal has decided to step down as a player at this time so we'll be losing one off the bat. Noba's wife will be joining us, so we will remain at 11 players. That aside, I had a very good time. It was exciting to run a game successfully using a virtual tabletop. Running a massive 5 encounter battle can get bogged down a bit at times but when a big group decided to hit a building from three sides the goulash is going to hit the fan. I'm glad people had a good time. I think things are going to very interesting from here on out.

Oh, definitely had fun. And sad to hear Ckem is dropping out :(. And yeah, the biggest reason for the bogging down was the 5-in-1 battles, and all the 1s being tossed around contributed as well. Definitely look forward to next Tuesday, as well as Sunday for khyote's game. I have missed how fun this could be.

Yeah, noticed you wound up really quiet, but I can see why with kids. I'm guessing they are little ones and the "Radio" is the monitor system you use to know what they are up to in another room. I know I always wind up the one the gains the kids' attention with my nieces and my granddaughter. At least, that gives mom and dad a chance to relax. My granddaughter is only 14 months and I was amazed at how she spent at least a half an hour with me doing the same thing over and over. Got some new moves in for her since she will copy cat your moves. ::chuckles::
