Skyrim Anyone?

Hey
I want to know who I can have geek talks with (other than Pnub) about this game after release. I only have one final exam to go and then bam it is Skyrim time!!! So who is playing this?

I'll eventually play it, but I think I'm going to get Batman: Arkham City first. Steam is unlocking it with a discount up to 20% on the same day as Skyrim releases. Edit: silly me, Skyrim releases on the 11th and Batman:AC is on the 15th

Well being I started with arena and daggerfall. Later picked up battlespire and the morrowind. I have oblivion for ps3 and xbox. I'm quite certain skyrm will be on my november shoppinglist as well as assassins creed. I've been a fan of the series but never beat a single one of these games. I usually dump a couple hundred hours in them though. Very enjoyable.

Dang it Fog, you would have to mention Assassin Creed.... >.< So now it's Skyrim, Batman:Arkham City and AC:Revelations (in no particular order). I need more time in the day to play.

I'm really looking forward to playing Skyrim. The preview articles look great. But I'll probably wait a month or so after release to pick it up. The Elder Scrolls games have an active modding community, and I'm sure Skyrim will be no exception. I'd like to have at least some basic mods to choose from when I start, so I can tweak things to my taste, and modify my appearance to look appropriately heroic.

Has anyone decided which character to play? I want to make a bad ass caster elf of doom :P

Probably will start with a Dunmer Thief, then a Nord Warrior.

I loved Morrowind.. it had some wonderful player made mods

I've already pre-ordered. Looking forward to a modern day sandbox that isn't minecraft.

I have been thinking about this for a while, and decide to wait for the game of the year edition. I Played both morrow wind and oblivion. Spent lots of money on dlcs like i always do. This time around waiting for the game of the year edition. Get it all in one discounted pack Unless my brother buys it first :).

Oh heck yeah! I actually want to knock out the campaign prior to the modding community ramping up. Once the mods start coming out I have a hard time sticking to the initial release content. I'll probably play all races eventually but right now the KhAjit are looking like my first. Has anyone heard if the dragon shouts will be voiced by race? I'd like to think that a Khajit shout will sound different than a Nord's.

@ Fog /wave would it be ok to have a Skyrim vent channel? Although not an MMO, people could still be on vent while playing, if they felt like talking to others doing the same :) And in other news, because they have decided to release the game at midnight in whichever country you live, New Zealand will get it ahead of everyone else!!!! Yay!!!!! Usually we have to wait, so this is awesome news, especially as I am a day ahead! Living in the future has its benefits :P

I'll definitely be playing Skyrim. Been getting an nervous tic just waiting for it. J/k Right now I'm planning out how I'll spend my perk points. Tough work since I'm quite the min/maxer. There's just too many nice perks and not enough perk points.

With MMO's like Rift around, single player RPGs seem kinda pointless to me...

I'll definitely be playing Skyrim! Maybe it's just my generation, but sometimes it's nice to "unplug" and enjoy a well-told story in a single-player RPG. It will make me sound older than even some of you "old" people here, but I used to love playing the AD&D games from SSI for DOS. "Pool of Radiance" was the first one I played back in 1988, but "Secret of the Silver Blades" was my favorite. There was nothing like fighting a huge blue dragon at the end of the game. What the game lacked in graphics my imagination more than made up for; I would play those games for hours on end... I used to also like to edit the character save files to give myself the most epic items in the game - I think my modding hobby started with those games, actually. I can't wait to see what Bethesda has in store for us in the modding community. I had a lot of fun tweaking Oblivion with their Construction Kit - hopefully there will be something similar for the Skyrim world.

If ever a MMO comes around that has a STORY that engages me, I'll play until I drop. I have yet to find an MMO that compares to even the most mundane single-player rpg when it comes to putting me IN a world. A large open sandbox like Rift is cool, but you can't tell the same kind of stories to a mass audience... and honestly 'players' are a distraction when you're trying to immerse yourself in an environment.

I will be playing this on ps 3 for sure!

I've been playing almost non-stop since it released (work and RL aside) and I still feel like I have hardly scratched the surface of this game. I wish MMO's were like this, I really do.

Ugh I was in Target with my lady and I saw Skyrim... I need to make a demo so I can get a band together but I love the elder scroll series so much that I can't resist. What's worse is Skyrim and Halo anniversary are in the same time frame, why must everything conspire to work against me! On a side note anyone from california want to be in a Christian folk/metal band? ugh GAMES downloading rift free trial right now.

I have been playing Skyrim for several hours per day since it was released. I'm still amazed at how much there is to do! I'm the explorer type, so I just killed my first dragon tonight (I'm lagging badly on the main quest line lol). I agree with everyone else here; this is what an MMO *should* be like... So addicted, ugh. :)

I have put a ton of time into the game and like most of you know I have barely made a dent in it. I think I look in every nook and cranny for a couple gold coins heh! Does anyone else grab every piece of food they can get? I mean there is no time penalty to use items so I just munch down 50 apples or whatever lol ... and cheese glorious cheese wheels for 10 health!. Since playing on PS3, the reticule or however its spelled isnt very zesty for far away targetting with a bow ... so running down the deer and elk and stuff is a pita but loving it .. or when you catch a bunny off guard. And cathing fish, and butterflies and picking every bush you come across ROFL. I ate one of every alchemy item to give me an idea of what they do .. at the end of that round I think I had like 20 bad effects on me thank goodness for that idol thing in whiterun. Really enjoying the smithing also working hard on that. Finding myself not really using magic much, just doing it with a giant 2 hander which is odd for me but wanted to go different route, may come back to bite me not using magic alot or skilling up in it. Will see. Anyway loving the game

I've been playing mostly in the third-person view. It was jarring at first, bu the experience is *so* much better than it was in Oblivion. Combat gets "interesting" but it's not too bad. I just got so used to playing games like RIFT and seeing the world from a third-person perspective, and Skyrim allows me to replicate that style pretty well. The world of Skyrim is gorgeous. I'm doing the same thing as Lace, running around eating all sorts of things to learn their effect. :) I've learned that the wings of a monarch butterfly, when mixed with blue mountain flowers, makes a health potion. The population of monarchs in my world has dropped drastically as a result...

Its even better than I thought it would be. I made a dunmer rogue.. I love sneaking around and pickpocketing.. and I love sneaking through dungeons and killing the mobs with my bow before they even realize Im there. Im also OCD I look in every barrel and take all the food I can find lol Im so glad they put cooking in the game.. just wish salt eas easier to come by :)

I was going come and post that the reason I haven't been on recently with Niochbe is Skyrim, but seeing this post thought I'd just tag it along in here. It's not my fault, I just can't sleep easy knowing my Nord brothers are fighting the shackles of Imperial rule and their Thalmar puppet masters. (shoutout to all my stormcloak brethren!) I will return eventually, and now that I've driven the empire out I may log in to check my mailbox, but mostly I will probably be inactive another month or so...;) Skryim for the NORDS!!!!

I'm caught between Uncharted 3 and Skyrim. I spent the majority of the night last night exploring the map in Skyrim and all I have to say is...I need new boots...or a horse...er...both. Dag there's a lot of territory and I'm having a blast discovering it. Havin a blast in Uncharted as well, but I think I'll be hanging in Skyrim for a while.

Traps to spring Locks to pick Pockets to pick Backs to stab and over 140 dungeons to do it in. Why would I ever go back to an MMORPG when they have completely removed these amazing features from them? TES forever.

So main storyline done 5 quests ROFL .... misc quests think it said 53 or 58 done heh ..... I am playing the game sideways for sure but loving it ... on another note 100 SMITHING BABY and sporting a full set of upgraded dragon armor! (no enchanments on it yet waiting to see what I want and my enchanting is only like 51) Note to Self: Do not feed Lydia for a few weeks, so she loses some weight, and quits blocking my path when I backtrack and then complains when I mow her over trying to get around her. Does anyone else fuss at Lydia outloud while playing? Semi Spoiler for Smithing,Enchanting (OH yeah if you want a hint for your smithing ... the smith lady adrianna and the guy inside will replenish their stock of leather and leather straps + what you get hunting, and you can make leather bracers fairly cheaply every few days and skill up solely on those, also when you find dwarven ruins, its good idea to make a few hauling trips with that heavy metal and smelt it down - using that if you got alot or then the bracers you make with petty soul gems will also help you get your enchanting up) Buy your house first and some decorations though so you have storage bins you can segregate your materials into as well ... if short on cash chop wood for the inn and run back and forth.

Lydia isn't a problem for me. I usually lose her as I crawl over some rocks or if I'm inside I tell her to go stand in a corner. =)

Things I am loving about Skyrim: 1. It is by far the best game I have ever played 2. Playing whenever I want with no raid schedule to worry about 3. Dual-casting ice and fire - Destruction ftw 4. The landscapes and detail 5. Killing dragons is so exciting 6. My tanking horse, he even tanks dragons sometimes 7. Laughing at Lydia as she trolls me by blocking narrow spaces 8. Pnub's awesome mod list (there are already so many!) 9. The quality of light in the game is spectacular 10. See number 1. I am short on adjectives to describe how awesome the game is on PC. Just amazing! We need a Skyrim No Spoilers channel in vent please Fog! It is a fun game to discuss with others and share tips :)

For all your TESV modding needs: Skyrim Nexus The mods should grow exponentially once Bethesda releases the construction kit. However, there's already quite a few good ones out already. (Just FYI: There are some NSFW mods listed) Skyrim ftw! ^_^ Here's some before & afters, from when I started messing with the *.ini files, and using various mods to up the texture res, mipmap quality, and tweak the post-processing effects (HDR, Bloom, Saturation, Tonemap, etc): Before 01 After 01 Before 02 After 02 Before 03 After 03 Before 04 After 04 I've since modified the settings a bit more, mostly to reduce the yellow-stone, sepia effect slightly, adjusted the contrast & saturation a bit, and added a vignette effect. I have the game looking closer to this now (though I've already installed even more hi-res, texture packs since these screen-shots were taken. /mod_junkie): Skyrim Screens 02 (Click on any image in the web player to see the full resolution version) Many of the effects look much better in-game of course (especially the water, the sheer amount of particles, adaptive AA, dynamic lighting, volumetric fog, blur & bloom effects, etc.), but you get the idea. There's quite a bit of flexibility already, in how much you can modify the visuals to your liking (e.g. - you may prefer more/less AA, sharpness, bloom, etc). And you can also edit, as well as, turn many of those effects on and off, on-the-fly, with the push of one key. Pretty slick! Have fun guys/gals! And if you decide to start messing with the *.ini files, post-processing injectors, and/or modding the executable to allow it to use more ram, take heed of the warnings to backup any and all files you're modifying, just in case ya break something! -Pnub

This is an interesting mod I'm going to try tonight. It allows you to zoom into the 3D world itself, from the map. "Google Maps" in Skyrim! :P Though the Skyrim Nexus comments seem to suggest it's a bit buggy for some people atm. So your mileage may vary~ Vid: 3D Skyrim Map How to (simple *.ini line entry): 3D Skyrim Map - Skyrim Nexus **Update: Seems to work ok when outdoors. Inside dungeons or cities however, the map bugs out quite a bit (goes blue/selects random textures to display). It also seems to skew your FOV slightly when playing, which makes your first-person arms look odd if you're not playing at the default FOV. Going to revert the changes for now. Maybe when the construction kit is out, they can turn it into a full-fledged mod, and iron out the kinks, rather than have it be a limited, *.ini-edit. Nice proof-of-concept though.

Thanks Pnub for the addy! I'll definitely head that way. Although I'm a little hesitant about modding at the moment due to gameplay last night. I went into the bears den and the walls looked like lavender colored taffy and the bears were really shiny. After I left out of there, certain shrubs and trees were the same color and texture as the walls in the den. I rebooted and it seem to take care of the issue (for a while =/ ). The patch needs to hurry up dangit! Just hit level 11 and I'm still running around in steel armor (as a thief HA!) and I've picked up a couple of shiny elven maces. Haven't crafted anything yet, but I've managed to store tons of mats in various locations (it's great to be a thief). I wish I were able to keep all of the horses I've stolen, but oh well...there are more to be taken in this world....mwahahahahaha Think I killed dragon number 6 last night. I'm having a blast going places I shouldn't. Frost trolls and giants are still a little overwhelming (but fun to try and take down nonetheless =D). Currently looking for Esbern as the side quests are piling up, but they can wait. =)

An interesting turn of events has hit my game. I've sent Lydia packing. She's the house wench now, and I've become a vampire. This sucks (get it? ha...ha...ha...I kill me). I may start over at a save prior to going into the vampires lair. I've also killed my 1st troll (feat within itself( still getting 2 shotted by giants...grrrr)). I'm in the market for another house. Are there any for sale in the northern territories?

I think there are a total of 5 houses, but whiterun is the cheapest 5k plus the decorating (which you do want to save up for so you have cupboards and stuff to organize your crap, I use a container for each type of item I try to save, and then I think one for stuff to sell/disenchant .... also since the merchants only let you sell back like every couple days when they get new coin .. don't forget to sleep in your bed if need be .. or wait. But the whiterun house is right by the armor lady, and her husband and I used them alot for selling, ..... until I joined the thieves guild ..... which you do get a misc quest that will point you in that direction early on ... hint hint. Someone asked about potion recipes .. there is a wikia started on that but I haven't used it, just going the mad scientist approach here ... muahhahahahah

I just got back from India, and picked up Skyrim. It's a wonderful game, and I'm totally lost as to how to play. :) Can anyone recommend a website for complete noobs? (I never played any of the Elder Scrolls games before.) For example I'm baffled by stuff like: When I want to switch spells in combat I press Q and the action comes to a full stop while I load in a new spell. Same for drinking a potion (Inventory window). Really, is that how combat is supposed to go??? I can't help but feel I'm Doing It Wrong. So, looking for the 'stuff you wish you knew about playing Skyrim' master list. thanks! ~Lakshmi

I am not playing on PC version but the keys while different will go on same basis. What you want to do is favorite a few things .. maybe some spells, bow and arrow, versus your sword and shield, or 2hander build .. when they get favorited .. in the middle of a fight you can swap to that discipline or weapons style etc .. also heal up with what may seem menial but some of the apples etc you have collected which weigh less than the potions you find along your way. As far as website for complete noobs ... there are the wiki, folks are doing but that may ruin some of your game playe experience with spoilers ... I am not sure what playstyle you would prefer but I went heavy armor 2hander sword which meant I could not bring back as much stuff to sell but I could one shot alot of mobs ... GOing duel wield with light armor means less trips back for selling but less dps ... then going mage means uber amounts of weight space but then you rely on your casting and potions perhaps .. dont know much about going caster in this game. Rather than kill xxxxx nubmer of mobs you level .. th e game is allowing you to become well rounded in many things ... so before maybe picking a level up of magicka, health, or stamina ... think about how you want to primarly play... and keep in mind using crafting to level is a huge benefit. Prolly I million things I didn't say but didnt want to give away too much. One piece of advice not as a spoiler but perhaps some may say so ... each time you level .. find some trainer and pay for 5 points of leveling that skill up .... I would stick to pertinent ones based on your playstyle but I let perhaps 20 levels slip away without training because I didn't want to spend the cash or realize the impact it could have .... so would save you that burden. If you are low on cash for your house .. chop wood right by the inn, in whiterun ... sure only a few hundred per stackes you carry but free easy money early on.

I'll play Rift again when I tire of playing Skyrim, but for now it's no contest.

Stage 4 vampirism isn't fun. All of the NPC's have like double alert radius to vampires and they come out of the woodwork to kill you. I guess I could use the skills provided so I can find a sleeping person, but I decided to jump back a day and search for Falion. From what I've read, this quest is severely tedious. My gameplay has somewhat slowed due to being invited to the D3 closed beta, plus I'm co-op'ing with a buddy in Uncharted 3, and Friday I'll be in the final CB of SWTOR. So many games to play, my head's spinning....weeeee!

Level 23 High elf mage, I am the most over powered thing in the game. Within the Destruction skill tree past the duel casting perk is Impact. The most OP thing in the game, if I see you first and hit you first, your dead period. When you spec that perk and cast a dual cast a spell at someone(Same spell in each hand, bigger version) I stagger them, Lots of mana + lots of mana regen = permastun. I permastun dragons, bandits, bears, cougars. I don't use Lydia and with the asinine amount of potions I have I also have no carrying space. I have the hardest time selling as I usually have a lot to sell and NO-ONE has enough gold TO sell all of my stuff too. I finished the main story, it is pretty epic. I did the college of mages questline, also fun and some neat items. Currently working on my sneak so I can sneak and cast spells at people. In the illusion tree you can make your spells silent. I did both the Stormcloak and Imperial civil war thing, I kept the imperial save as I did more side things and lvled up my crafting more. I am doing all 3, I might restart for training purposes, and to focus a lot more on the crafting side of things.

Phenomenal game! I really cannot wait for them to release the Construction Kit so that we may begin modding (outside of textures and bat files). I also had to ditch my companion as I leveled up as a sneaky poker guy.. until I became a werewolf, now I just go ape and massacre the dungeons (eating people along the way lol). I went Stormcloak myself.. not a fan of Ulric but I don't approve of the current state of the Empire (that my predecessor bled for!). Anyhow, now that I finished the main quests (dragon, civil war, companions, dark brotherhood, thieves guild, mage guild) I am going to level up as a Mage, choose the Empire and try to contract Vampirism (I never got it, maybe because my lycanthropy?) Anyhow.. love it, love it

Wow at 23 you are done with main questline I am 51 and barely tapping into it .. well cause I want to explore and get my money's worth lol! .. also I like platinum trophies on ps3 network, so need to explore more, kinda a trohpy whore there on some things I play, but mostly cause I LOVE THE LEGO GAMES! And if ya wanna friend me on PS3 I think I am under Briellen (one of my guild names) just send a note that you are family and you can see what games I have liked or touched on ps3. I mostly use my friended folks to see what I might like to play based on talkingt to them in station home areas ... While you may see a ton at 0% or 5% or somethign I may or may not like them .. I may have just gotten sidetracked to actually play them through I was imperial race .. so BOOOOOOO To your Stormcloaks if you read the history taht scrolls durign loading, imperials settled here first you NORDS are just disgruntled citizens of the EMPIRE and if that is true you are of my blood .. bow down now to your Dark Blood Master, Thieves, Guikld Mater, Arch Mage and Companion leader, and Dragonborn!. I kinda made that last part up but they said the imperials settled here so nords to me are imperials that went a different way of life etc .... hmmmmm kinda like all the lands of the world left in seculusion from imperialistic monarchism in 'the old world' are different nations now based on settlers proclaimign independence .. I wanted to side withe the Nords .. but Ulfric was giving me issues on swallowing that.

Oh one last thing that anothe tangent made me recall again I went imperial then went hmm I know those voices ..not saying go imperial but one guys voice is Col. Tigh from BSG .. then the one Legate is Ivanova from Babylon 5 if you go that route .. Hope that wasn't a spoiler but I recognized the old drunks voice from BSG and went hmm then checked web .. I didnt hear Ivanova till I confirmed my thoughts on him... She just wasn't Ivanova to me, kinda strict like her but no humor like her in show. But nice to hear both their voices ....

Back to Skyrim after wow beta....oops I mean wow with lightsabre noises beta :P

I just took Skyrim out of its package yesterday. I needed something to delv into for distraction and I figured a new adventure would work. Wow, I have never seen such a gross over hype of a game in my life. This game is aweful. I am surprised it made it onto the shelves. I think i played for about 3 hours yesterday. And I would hardly call it "play" it was more like struggle along with the horrible keyboard/mouse combination they have for getting your character to move. If memory serves they had the same system in Bloodrayne 2 and it completely ruined the game. Is there any way to change the steering system? I went into the options and there isn't anything there that would allow me to bind the mouse buttons to move. The game is completely hindered by this "steering system" as it slows everything down. You can lumber through in the open world as you have a lot of space to move but in close quarters such as caves and buildings its is really a great hinderance. It taks forver to turn around and face your enemy and trying to run behind an enemy also is slow and combersome. So far my character has gotten stuck in the game twice in places that have no reason to get stuck. One time my was at a corner of a wall with nothing else in the way and it took me about 5 minutes of clicking, sneaking, straffing and walking backwards to get away from the wall. I kill an enemy on a hill and the dead body rolled about a mile away from me. I eventually found it but its really like they didn't program any physics into this game. If I can get past my extreem dissapointment in this game and go back to it I may may try to use some of the above persons graphic settings as most things especially in the dark have this glare and you can't see details of any kind. Game informer gave this game a 9.5 and i totally dissagree. I knock Skyrim down to about a 5. I could probably deal with the other short commings if they had a decent steering system but trying to just move my character has prooven to be a frustrating annoyance.

While I was away I played Skyrim. At first I did find it addictive, however after awhile I found that the missions were pretty much the same and the challanges kinda lacked. My son completed the Major Skyrim quest, of killing the ultimate bad dragon in 4 days. My toon is now lvl 28 and is at the point to kill Altuna (or whatever its name is) and I just no longer feel the zing. I have explored and done all the major quests in all the towns, gotten all my Dragon Voices. I did not choose a side and kept neutral so I could see the whole game. Yes there are hundreds of side quests and some interesting traps, like turning into a Vampire or Werewolf. But they do not change the endgame so other than making one a Bill Bad Ass...yawn. You become a Vampire when you do the Dog quest, get the helm and do not ever take it off. It turns you into a Vampire and very hated by everyone. The cure is to take off the helm from time to time and let the "Brain Rot" disease go away. Being a Werewolf/Vampire is interesting. You can also go get a blessing the various shrines and this will cure all Diseases. The tracking and steering are a serious problem in this game. If you do not have a top end graphics card you can only play this game on the minimum mode, which leave a whole bunch out. There are places where the speech are completely missing. When you do come across this there are some fixes and downloads that can be found on the Web. There are entire holes of bad programming that just kicks you from the game. No patches, no fixes and your only option will be to go back to a previous save and just not do the "problem" quest. I am told that these are more common with a low end video card. If my copy had not been a gift I would not have payed the $70.00 for this game. To me it is over priced and worth a $20.00 investment.

Hey Lota.. Nice to see you and everyone misses you. Sorry you werent impressed with Skyrim. I think its different on xbox my son hasnt come across anything like that yet. Hope to see you in game soon. :)

I got skyrim for xmas (for PC), and like alot of xbox PS3 games the conversion to keyboard from controler controls is bad. I have had the same problem with DCU online and other cross over titles. But seeing as 1. I didn't pay for the game and 2. I have been in that christmas/winter money pinch so I have had to drop my rift sub. Its not that bad and gives me a game to play. I have heard from a buddy that if you get the USB plug in game controler it helps with the steering problems.... well once you get use to useing a controler that is.

Will have to check out that USB controller.. Thats the worst part for me is that coversion. I would enjoy the game a lot more

oh boy oh boy, beta will soon be here. I sure hope I get the opportunity to play Beta and see what its like. I love Skyrim, I hope the online is just as good.
