Is there a General Basic Raiding Guide for Rift?

Raiding is pretty much why I'm here to play Rift.  I'm new to rift, but I've raiding in games going back to Everquest.

I was looking to see on the site if there was a general raiding guide for Rift on the site and didn't see one.  If I'm missing it please point me in the right direction.

I know there are guides out on the internet, but with most older games the information is often outdated or wrong.

I'm not talking about specific dungeons and boss mechanics.

I'm talking about UI settings, preferred souls , most needed souls and common plugins that should be used etc.

Even if there are guides out there, they may not be they way we do it. Every raiding group I've been in has done some things different either because of game mechanics or just how they do it.

If we have one guide that we can send everyone to before the raid, then maybe we can be that much ahead.

If there are guides out there that are very good.  Then maybe we can just link to them with the individual Raid and Boss guides.  I think I have seen some posted in Discord.

If there is not something up to date or something we can use, then I'm happy to put it together, just need the information.  Maybe creating a topic for veterans to post.

Just wanted to make sure the leaders didn't assume people were doing something when they are not.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to doing more raiding.

Zaar, consider joining with Fog's group when/if you are 65+.  If not, then ask the experienced members here about specific raids... including those of us who have been wandering around with him.

The thing is, Rift actually has a ton of mechanics to worry about in raids.  It is probably the most technical raid environment in the current standard style MMO.  So having a guide for everything written up with the family just coming back is probably not going to happen swiftly.

That said, a few general things are always true:

1-2 tanks.
2-3 healers.
1-2 support (bard, archon, whatever the cleric and warrior additions were, whatever the primalist is.)
At least one mage capable of reflect in some build.  In some cases a build of any kind with silences and stuns.
A certain level of gear for each raid is required, right now everyone able to enter is getting buffed.  Not sure how long that will last.

From there, all that is left is learning the fights and performing well.

Thanks for replying, but I that is not what I'm asking about or suggesting. Also I have 2 65+ and already do dungeons and raids.

I'm just saying that in every raid/group I've been that DC is leading he has to keep explaining common techniques used in raiding/grouping because the vast majority of people in this game solo and have no concept on how to actually follow directions or work with other people in a group.  It would be nice to have a simple FAQ to help people get up to speed on the basics of raiding with us and stop wasting the other 19 people's time because they are too lazy to prepare before coming to a raid.

Seeing as we are using these raids as a recruitment tool we should be getting a lot of new people.

It would be a lot easier to bring them on board if we could send them to a single link with general information about attending a raid.  To me that would be a more efficient way than explaining it during the raid.

But sounds like that not important.

No matter.

Ah, I thought you wanted a guide to fights.  To be honest, it's learning to pay attention to certain things.  That's raiding.  People either do it and adapt as they practice, or they don't.  Rift is very mechanics focused, with a little less dps check usually (although on occasion it throws them at people) than other MMOs... so this is just a matter of people learning to adapt on each fight and respond to mechanics quickly.

The builds that are needed can change per encounter, and sometimes things get broken in older raids.  For instance, it seems that prince and cleric tanks may be a bad idea... but also it may be that a high dps build mage needs to be tanking too.  Sometimes having an archon and a bard, or a different support setup, is good.  Sometimes just one is enough.

I'm not sure there's really a good method for an FAQ for that.  Sure, there's little things like 'eat your food, put on your buffs, listen to raid leads, and so on' but that would just seem really odd to have a FAQ for.

If you have ideas, maybe you can note them.  I'm just not sure what really good information would go in such a thing.

I could see having an FAQ. Several people that join Fog for his Wanderings (raids) are casuals that will probably never raid outside of his event. General information might be good to touch on.  I'd rather see an FAQ with common knowledge and people using it than people afraid to ask.

A few things I can think of:

Don't be an excessive talker and pay attention to the designated raid leader. In some fights the leader (and any designated helper) is going to be telling you a lot of stuff because there are some fights with a LOT of mechanics. One I know has you staying in a safety cone that moves so you need to pay attention and the leader will be telling you to move. There are all sorts of things like that in combination with others.

Don't be telling the chosen raid leader how to do the job during a battle or act like you don't like his decisions. You are not the only one there and if the raid leader is good he is trying to teach everyone what to do. They might see a weak spot to work on you don't and will want to reset to help people.

Watch for the poo on the ground and be able to move fast. I have issues with the latter due to my MS. This goes for any game I ever played in the past 16 years and before MS I COULD move better. ;) After a few raids, I know the option that has the least things to worry about is the spot I want to be in. ::chuckles:: Tried the one fight with the ray thingies that made you have to run in and could not move fast enough so I went with the melee group instead. I was able to contribute better. It's knowing your abilities and your play style to help be a group member. I know I probably will not be a hard core raider due to my MS, but I still like the challenge of raiding.

No yelling in frustration. It don't help us move any faster and probably makes us screw up more due to frustration levels rising. If you have to yell, don't hit the push to talk button. ;)

UNDERSTAND your builds before coming to the fight so you know what abilities and spells you have so you can tell the raid leader if you have something he needs done during the fight he is describing. If unsure you can do things on time, stick to DPSing until you get comfortable, since we have experienced people to handle most of the support issues that come up. I'm still working on this because I only came back to Rift a little bit ago and due to life it has been hodgepodge with only some time to hop in scheduled events and some soloing. I would work outside the raid on build ideas with knowledgeable guild mates if you truly want to have a good raid setup. I'm probably going to see about a good DPS build and call it good.

Make sure you are having fun! Raiding is not for everyone and understand we have casual raiders or people who have never raided EVER until Fog or DC convinced them to just come along for the death of it....errrr... fun of it.  =D

This is my two coppers on this topic from a general how we roll perspective and based on what I have seen happening.
