I was actually wondering if this guild had some kind of commander training program?
There currently in no formal commander training events being held. All of the current commander that I know would be happy to have you tag along if you want to learn. The best advice I can give if you want to command is to just start commanding. Certainly you are going to make mistakes, we all have as we have made our way through the commander ranks. There are additionally several good articles here in the guild archives with details on how to use the commander system here int he guild. As for commanding on the live battleground, you simply have to learn by doing.
That being said, please remember a few key points.
1. Our guild is founded on play what you want, when you want for however long you want with whatever character you want. We do not require specific builds, etc.
2. Remember that the people following your tag, if you run one, are there to have fun, that is the primary goal of all of our commanders to make it fun.
3. Don't fall into the trap of some commanders and be too authoritative, yell, demand, demean, etc. When that happens you are taking the fun out of it.
4. Remember that you might be the top rated player on the server a Platinum Champion or whatever it is, but the people you are leading may be brand new players and they dont know what they dont know. Try to explain as you go along, conditions permitting.
5. Your unit is going to make mistakes, you are going to make mistakes, its part of the game. So don't get upset with yourself or with your players.
6. Have fun!
I wish the best in your efforts to command, because commanders are the thing which helps all of our members!

Highlighted, bolded, underscored and capitalized (figuratively speaking). If you make WvW fun, people will come to your events. Think of who you enjoy following the most and be that person.
