According to Gaminformer, EA has shut down Mythic Entertainment. While probably not a huge surprise, as they haven't had anything new release in a while, it's still a sad day in my book. I have very fond memories of DAoC, particularly farming darkness falls and RVR.

Sad day indeed. I figured that most companies knew what they were getting into before they sold their soul to EA for money. Maybe I am wrong ... but nothing good quite come out of being purchased by EA.
Bullfrog, Origin, Westwood all dead under them. Those 3 were responsible for developing our classic games that is still considered one of the best games today. I still want to see an Ultima sequel one day ... just one day... A lot of good RPGs went to die in EA.
That *is* rather sad :( Cut my teeth on graphics-based MMOs w/DAoC and had a blast there. I actually downloaded it just a few months ago and gave it a quick run through, though I couldn't recall my login info and so my characters are lost to me.
The next "Ultima" is in development. https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/ Started with a Kickstarter. I've played during several of its backer preview weekends and it's coming along nicely.
It looks like Broadsword is still running DAOC and Ultima Online so those games are not gone at least not yet.
EA bought BioWare, too, and then forced the original owners out when SWTOR didn't perform as well as they'd hoped. I hope a new company can make RPG games as well as BioWare used to.
Shut the front door! No way! What in the world is EA trying to do ??? They are so far off in left in field its not even funny. I loved Warhammer too :( The only pvp I enjoyed was their 1-11 bracket. Limited skills everyone roughtly in the same boat and playing field.

The original Bioware crew that created games like Baldurs Gate and Torment have spread out over the years. Some are working with Blizzard, others left to join Troika and then moved on again to Obsidian entertainment. If you want a old school Bioware feeling game, you should keep your eyes open for the following games:
Torment: Tides of Numenera (InXile entertainment) - Real time with pause.
Pillars of Eternity (Obsidian entertainment) - Real time with pause.
Wasteland 2 (InXile entertainment) - Turn Based.
Dead State (Double Bear/Iron Studios) - Turn Based.
Bioware now are no longer the Bioware of the past. EA is just using the studios name (Think "Weekend at Bernies") to make money, admittedly Bioware would have probably sunk into obscurity had EA not bought them out, but what EA is doing is not really doing it any favours.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Numenera setting, but the writer who designed it is none other than Monte Cook

Agree. Sad day indeed. And as far as EA goes? I would venture to say they ARE the dark empire in the world of online gaming. A cancer upon all that is good and pure in this world. A death by means of a thousand paper cuts to the worlds of online entertainment!! In all seriousness though. If I do see any game with EA mentioned in it? I don't even bother any more.
Rest in peace Mythic. But another old friend fallen by the dark hand that is EA.
