The whole "trans fat" issue in our diets has been in the media lately. We Americans like convenience. One of those conveniences is in our snack foods where we tend to get way, way too much trans fat. What so many forget, especially younger folks that did not grow up with popping their own corn without benefit of a microwave, you don't need pre-packaged "microwave popcorn." Below is the complete list of ingredients you need to make your own microwave popcorn, for some of you this will come as a big surprise.
Ingredients: Popping Corn
Paper "lunch" sack (color doesn't matter, just depends on if your store sells brown, white or both)
That's it! The popping Corn you can buy anywhere you buy your groceries. It comes in bags, jars. Pick whichever brand you like. By paper sack I mean the "lunch" sack size that you used to take your lunches to school in ... brown plain paper lunch sacks. You can buy these at groceries stores, too, still.
All you need to do is measure about 3 tablespoons of popping corn kernels into one paper sack. Roll the top closed a few turns. Stand it up in your microwave and cook for about 1 minute 35 seconds. The time could vary according to the wattage of your microwave but this time is a good beginning point. Just make sure that whatever time you start with listen for the popping, if it stops popping it's done. Stop microwaving when the popping stops. You will find that this not only makes "microwave popcorn" less expensively but it's healthier for you, too, depending on what you do (or don't) put on your popcorn after it's done.
