It's going buy to play, free to play implies you don't even purchase the game. Still deciding how I like this.
Coincides with me having to take a break. I suppose if I wanted to pop on for a couple of hours questing now and then at least I wouldn't need to subscribe fully.
The 'crowns' are just for vanity purchases, I take it?

I'll likely reinstall it and give it another go. I enjoyed it well enough, just not enough for a Sub. The B2P with cash shop seems a good combination. Lets me pay when I want new stuff.
I think the Buy-2-Play model will work well for it. But I'm really hoping they will get rid of the Anti-Social gameplay before that. Allowing friends to pair up to do quests that are not on the same path is imperative. I really hope they took my Henchman idea to heart and implement some sort of Join Leaders Quest Line system where the group leaders story is the one players see and everyone else gets henchmen rewards for helping that player through their story. Additionally we need Nameplates. Can't stress that one enough. Overall though this should help the population come back, now all we need is a reason for guilds to exist and be noticed in the world, and something of value that can be given and is hard to get. Giveaways are really tough in ESO as you can't give bag space, can't give a weapon that everyone wants, and materials are the same price no matter the grade. Makes for a rough life of a "community focused" community.
I think the B2P model will work well for them, especially with the consoles coming into play in June.
I'll probably give it another go when this all goes live since the cops n' robbers system/Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood is what initially rekindled my interest. How long I last will entirely depend on how social the game has become since I left last time. *crosses fingers*
I agree with Fog, content and no sub fee isn't enough to bring me back....not saying those aren't appreciated, just playing with other players (outside of PVP) is what I look for in a MMO =/
I won't be returning to this one; the lesson learned after pre-purchasing was too bitter a pill to swallow. But for those who are playing and love it, or anyone who just wants to try it, I hope the new model eases the financial burden of doing that.
I think i`m going to play Guild wars again it`s been over a year away . and I had canclled my account for ESO 2 days ago before even hearing about B2P.
my account is up till FEB 7th . i had planned on taking a break until 1.7 . however they have lied to us for too long already . With the lag fixes/ crashes in Cryodill. game feels and plays like a single player rpg with tacked on CO-OP .
While i like being able to solo now an then in MMOs i don`t play MMOS to solo . game by very design discourges grouping playing, questing together its the most anti-social mmo I`ve seen since 1999 .
Too bad it had promise . as i was looking forward to a MMO set in the elder scrolls world .

I have hopes it will help the game (and I've been eternally critical of the game since launch). This model helped to save DDO back in '09 (Literally you would login and see 12 other players in the main city. THE. MAIN. CITY.) The folks that pay for subscriptions should help to support the f2p players. I've got paid time that will convert so I'll give it a road test before deciding if it is worth it to continue.
I suppose the downside is that now the pressure is off zos to 'fix' things. Sigh.
It would be a wish of mine that you can earn crowns ingame that you can use to purchase store items like dlc content. Gives even free players a reason to keep playing.
We are going to give it another try, but if the game keeps me from playing with my partner and my friends while questing (the dreaded floating ^ and the Solo Only Bosses), I'm going to stop playing right away and bury the game.
I'm still super mad I ZoS didn't give us Steam Keys to activate or another way to get that fluffy doggie...

I'm still enjoying the game for the present, but I'm uncertain about the B2P/F2P model. There are so many bad things about F2P games, yet I'm still hopeful. They seem to have taken their time in the decision to transition.
If they follow more of a Rift/LOTRO model, it may work out ok.
The model as it has been described sounds better than the LotRO model. It is a little more along the lines of The Secret World, in that is buy to play.
I'm quite optimistic about this change at this time.
ESO never worked right on my computer. During the beta, I was one of those few who got a black screen when trying to get to the sign-in screen.
Through hours of tweaking the settings, we found a setting that helped. All was well until the next patch. Then it was black screen, and the setting that fixed it before, didn't help.
At the end of my 60 day subscription, I was FINALLY able to log in, but the desire to play was completely gone. Everyone in the guild had leveled up their toons, and from the sounds of it could not come back to help me due to the anti-social nature of the game.
Even though I have a new video card that would probably make the game look awesome, I don't think I"ll be jumping into ESO F2P. GW2 has been great.
There are certain instances that will always be marked as solo:
Fighter Guild
Mages Guild
Main Story (Harborage Quests)
These instances will never be grouped. I admit at launch I was bit frustrated when I could not kill Molag bal; but after talking to guildies and making few suggested tweeks to my attribute points, I brought that sucker down!
In terms of grouping with other standard quests, I really can't judge because 90% of the time I have quested solo. Now I can say that as of late, I have been able to help guildies with quests/bosses that a. I have not completed and the area as whole does not change after the end of the quest or b. area quests I have completed. In terms of example B, I can't tell you if it was a standard quest where the area remained the same or not.
I argue that ESO is largely a single player game within an MMO - which is a good fit for players like me that enjoy the immersive components of a game. Sadly this may not work for everyone :(
I tend to go the single player PVE route in most games - I really had my hopes up high for ESO. I just wish I could have actually got the game to run before my sub ended. (I guess you could say I paid to NOT play <frowny face>).
Maybe when they drop the monthly subscription, I'll see if the game runs on my computer. (The strange thing is that all the other Elder Scrolls games run flawlessly and beautifully on my system). ESO was the lone game that had problems. Go figure.
@GaryC Oddly I had tons of issues with Skyrim - go figure, LOL.
Because I already own the game from pre-order during beta, now that there will be no subscription fee, I'll go back and play now and then when there's no one around on my regular game and I'm feeling like playing solo but, if folks thinking of buying the game asked what I thought about buying it now, I'd simply answer, no...
pretty much what Tuz said . if you are looking to play a MMO , then ESO is lacking in that area.
If you are looking for a Skyrim experience + friends co-op tacked on then ESO is great .
I was looking for a MMO set in the elder scrolls world not a single player MMO . while i do like to solo now and then, when short on time, or just not in the mood to group. the main reason I play MMOs is to do stuff with guildies, help others, etc and in a game where you can play the entire game solo until you reach endgame.
There is no reason to group up or do anything with other people . outside of the 1 dungeon per zone and craglorn, Cryodill .
