ESO after GSGH

Thought we had lots of time before 1 Jan to plan the transition for those Family members planning to continue playing ESO, turns out it's right around the corner. Have a few questions.

  1. Is GSGH definitely leaving ESO.

  2. If so, how are we structuring the new Guild. Who's taking lead, who's setting up the new web site.

  3. How are the current Guild Banks being transferred.

  4. Will it be possible to continue the use of GSGH's Marketplace (that is a tremendous piece of programming, hate for it to go unused).

  5. Will comms continue on GSGH's Raidcall.

I'm sure there's much more to consider. Please post any solutions, further questions, and if you plan to continue playing ESO.

Next question; is there an existing Guild, with a GSCH/Family like feel we should all join?

ESO is a full chapter, not a Saighdear.  ESO will be retired if it goes under 250 active member AND if Ben decide it is the direction.

So will I could be wrong, only Saighdear's are being retired (Archeage)

Keeping playing the game that you like and hopefully will more people come back into the game.

Technically we've been under 250 for about a month now. I am still holding out hope that 1.6 may bring the refuge we seek. I really don't want to retire this branch as I think ESO has a lot going for it if they could just resolve some of the big issues. I won't close the ESO doors until we find something else that draws more people to it. Right now we don't have such a game. I'm hoping by the time a game does come on the horizon that ESO may have resolved its issues and we can grow again. But that all rides on ZeniMax now.

Before we start planning for worst case scenario lets bide our time and see what zenimax does. I really don't want to leave this game but if I have to choose between our survival and it there won't be a choice. Our families survival is always my first priority.

I heard about the champ system and leveling out 50 and I came back from a hiatus.  I think the "road ahead" has a lot that will improve the overall "famliness" so that GSCH can actually play together.

I'm really hoping for actual PVE raid boss type things.  Preferably not something with a limit like trials.  It would be cool to having something like that.

Fog answered question #1, the rest are moot.  If the time comes for closing the Chapter I'm sure there will be sufficient time to plan out any transition.

Consider this topic shelved.

Great questions Verve and thank you for asking. I've heard some strange ideas of what people think is going to happen and now I am glad to hear the truth of whats ahead.

I think some people are worried that the Chapter ESO will close in January and that's the final say.

Thank you Fog for clarifying it.

I'm a wait and see kind of gal.  I think ESO will see their number have fallen and want to do more to retain and bring back those they lost.  I think too the other games that are newer have their flavor ebbing and that too might bring back some more people.

I hope so.  I miss having a bunch of people playing and to play with.  I'm looking forward to seeing old faces returning.

Nothing has been decided. In the State of the Family I didn't say it was closing, I said if we can't improve it is going to close. We NEED a lifeline from ZeniMax and I'm crossing my fingers 1.6 brings it.

FYI - I'm still in ESO and playing regularly - at least as much as I can... The holidays are approaching and much of my time is taken up with family events...

right now all the grand kids are out of school until next Monday and of course Thanksgiving is Thursday (I do a lot of cooking) so game time is limited.  Then I have the family vacation Dec. 17 - 23 followed immediately by Christmas (as well as the grand kids being on holiday break until Jan 5 (I think).  But.... I am here - really I am :)

If I may ask, what are the big issues that are felt to hold the guild back? Maybe we can all submit feedback to that effect and help ZOS help us. I ask because I don't know what, in particular, is ruining the game for the family.

Natasi,

There are many things holding us back, the largest of which is the lack of brand recognition in ESO. We have no name, no face, no reputation. When people walk by us they have no idea who we are or what we do. Our community is built from the ground up to plan and execute large scale public community events. By doing so we gain brand recognition and people know what to expect when they see us. The problem with ESO is they can't see us. We look the same as every other creature in the game. Tabards were a step in the right direction but you're trying to build a brand around an emblem without a name. Trying to market a product without a name is brutally difficult.

The second biggest thing hindering our growth is the lack of large scale content. In their original pitch which secured us coming here they showed me the original adventure zones which were designed to get more difficult and require more players the deeper you went into them. They were supposed to have bosses which require an upside of 80 people to defeat. Something that could draw community involvement and allow communities like ours an avenue to shine. That planned was scrubbed and craglorn is what we got instead.

The game does not welcome group play, in fact it downright discourages it on a questing level. Try grouping with a loved one. You can't. The only way it works is if you follow the exact same storyline. Even still there are missions you must complete solo. There is nothing a group of 30+ can do in PvE at all. Cyrodiil was a great idea but the God Mode players quickly annihilated many players desire to even go there. Now I would have better luck getting people to a proctologist than I would into cyrodiil.

I met with them in person a few months back and gave them a 27 page document which outlined key suggestions and issues that we face with this game. The problem we face today is that we announced we were coming here right before ESO changed from a Massively Multiplayer Game to a Multiplayer Elder Scrolls Game. All of their marketing removed the word "Massively". Their focused changed between alpha and beta and with it they changed the very things we decided to come here for. Heck look at alliances. We had them in alpha, we broke them, they removed them so they could fix them, 6 months later no alliances.

Fact is we went from 1,300 people to under 250 in 6 months. Every day we have 2 - 5 people leave the game all together and we gain an average of 2 players per week. Unless they can stop the bleed and they can keep people playing ESO there is little we can do to prevent this. All we can do is learn from this and adapt. From here on out we aren't throwing a stake in a homestead until the game goes live and we see it's actually a suitable home in a live environment. We were burned by RIFT, burned by Guild Wars 2,  and now burned by ESO. This mistake won't happen again. What is said and what is done are two entirely different things and we need to make sure that we base our path on facts not hopes and dreams.

I have to ask.... do we know why ESo completely changed there game...  I thought they had a fairly good team behind them,  how are they not capable of fixing some of the disastrous mistakes they have done,  and with all the feed back they have been having how have they not understood that what they were lining up to do would be against the majority of players and guilds of this game.... I can understand some things can be harder to deal with, but some of them like the crazy batswarm was mentioned over and over in PTS and they didn't change it till what, 4 months into the game..... and even now its still a a problem... anyway just asking

Doreth, pressure from the Elder Scrolls community to make it friendly to the Single Player market. Realize that Skyrim sold 10 million copies in the first 3 months. They were largely banking on appealing to that market. They wanted first and foremost to build an Elder Scrolls Game where you could be a part of the history of the ES universe. What they failed to do is create a Multiplayer friendly environment for the rest of us who come more from a MMO background.

Your discourse on brand recognition really hits home. I completely agree with your sentiments and still can't fathom why a simple change like having an elected guild name hover above one's head can't be implemented in one of the many small patches we incur from week to week.

I can understand how they wanted to get the feel of older ESO game, I played a few and enjoyed them.... and the way they have to questline go and story is very much like there older games....  where they completely failed I think is Cyrodiil.....  they had crazy numbers in there at first,  but allowing some of there flaws to last that long is what drove away most of the MMO players..... AvA was supposed to be our haven for us and they completely dropped the ball....

anyhoo just saying.. I still love ESO and well if they can keep fixing there stuff I think there is still a place the for us

I believe that In their attempt to please both parties they ended up making it worse and pleasing neither.  I think Skyrim is a better single player game and ESO is probably mediocre at both.

One of their biggest problems is performance. Server lag ruins what should be some of the best, most memorable moments in this game. The game won't be able to truly grow unless it can handle the players. I'm optimistic though. Imperial City will be a true test of their progress.

I think having 80 players take down a boss is unrealistic at this time.. I've tried their version of PVP (AvA)  when you have 40 players fighting, the lag is so bad you cannot do anything.  Until they resolve this major issue the bleed off effect will continue.  Personally i would like to see raid style events of 10 to 20 players without lag.  And i think those raid events should be available starting at level 10.  so say levels 10 - 19 would have their own raid events.. 20 - 29 would have theirs and so on.  The public dungeons and group dungeons are nice but they are focused on small groups.. it shows by the room they give you to maneuver.

And on another note.  A personal trunk to hold siege, trophy and other items of that effect should be added to the game.  since they have so many of each of those and so little bank space.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I am still here but my work schedule has limited my play lately. Personally I never cared for PVP but have enjoyed it here, but it gets frustrating when a couple people can take out a small army because they are so OP. I don't even want to go to Cyrodil anymore. I have always been a quester myself and a PVE player and this games lack of allowing people to quest and group together unless they are on the exact same quests really blows and is killing the game for me. Its sad that a game with such beautiful graphics and story background can be so bad in so many other aspects.

Fog nailed it. let me quote one of my generations greatest poets "Whoop there it is, c'mon whoop there it is".  that got awkward...  Anyway.. what?

Oh yeah. A: Yes they tried to hard to balance the ES and MMO aspects of the game. #2: They totally dropped the ball on AvA. and D: The idea that immersion is more important that guild recognition just blows me away.

The above is a Home Alone reference just so you don't think I'm completely unstable, just slightly. Sorry all of you not old enough to get it. You kids with you leather jackets and your pac-man video games, with your 8 track music...

I for one love 2 things in a MMO. Large scale kill everything, find the end and kill a boss so awesome he wipes 50 people before we take him down. And PvP. Good honest open field PvP. Clear objectives, easy to find small and large scale battles.

ESO failed me personally in both regards.

No mega dungeons. No god-mode bosses. No hidden corners for your guild to find that one rare boss that you have nightmares about for weeks after he kills your 60 man zerge.

The PvP map is so massive, I was... whats the word my kids use.... stoked..? Anyway with the large map, keeps and siege warfare. Three sided battles... Man I thought I had died and went to DAoC heaven. Then as we found out, the god-mode bosses came in the form of players with no lives and a want and need to exploit a horrible misstep by ESO. There where no open field battles, no stalking the enemy, no choke points. It was take this keep... now this one... now this one... now this one... Oh and he who hath the most forward camps wins.

As both a huge MMo and ES fan I want to love this game. I want to tuck it in at night and read it a story till it falls asleep. Kiss its boo boos and send it off to college.

I'm going to hang around ESO for a good deal of time to come. After the holidays my game time will clear up a lot more. But I really hope things change and tread more toward a MMO then they have been. Give us guild tags. Give us Bosses. Give us open field PvP. For all that is good and right in Nirn give us DAoC2 wrapped in the Elder Scrolls meat suit.

That's all I've got. I'll be here all week, be sure to tip your waitress.

One more thing, fix the economy. The guild store idea is a joke. Give us a common market place of some type. Spamming zone is not a likable way to sell your wears. What is this, an outdoor flea market?

I love the game myself, they simple just need to pull the heads out of where they have been and start listening to the players, not each other around the what ever machine you call it these days. The lag is the biggest killers and they need to give us the content they said they would.

I am looking forward to many of the suggestions and hopes that have been made - hopefully some of them will become reality.  I think the PvE end-game side is definitely lacking, but I feel that they do have the ability to extend what is already there into something worthwhile.

On the PvP front - I've really enjoyed Cyrodiil.  I always do some PvP in any MMO, but I find the AvA style play in ESO very fun.  Lots of small unit opportunities as well as grand sieges which I partake in more often in  ESO than in many MMOs prior (including DaoC, WAR, GW2, etc.).   The balance in AvA has improved in recent patches, albeit with the emergence of some noticeable bugs (e.g.; bad lag, Purge accelerating damage, etc.).  Yet, even with the bugs, I find I'm spending most of my time playing in Cyrodiil enjoyably.

I'm still optimistic.
